RIP he has better movies than other popular directors
Wow--he will be missed. I love every one of his movies! What a loss.
Wow has it been a bad year.
Movies of my life, soundtracks of my life--only a true child of the 80's can fully realize the impact this man had on our teen subculture.
RIP, man...we won't forget about you.
Oh, my God, that is so sad. RIP.
How can you chose? RIP Mr. Hughes.
How tragic, RIP Mr. Hughes!
Wow, being a teen in the 80's, his movies really spoke to me. Sixteen Candles was the movie that captured the angst of my awkward youth. Don't even get me started about the Vacation movies....we've all got a cousin Eddie. It is a great loss.
Aw this is really sad. I still quote Sixteen Candles all the time. In fact, it's the theme for our friend's 50th birthday party.
So sad.
He was so young. It's just too sad.
So sad. His movies were like watching our own home movies or catching up with friends. He hit it on the head every time. He will truly be missed.
I'm crushed, I just can't believe it. My favorite movies ever.
How could anyone who was a teenager in the 80's not have related to a John Hughes movie at some point? This is just so sad. Andie from Pretty in Pink was my inspiration for so long. Just so sad.
This is so sad. I love his movies. They made me envy American teenagers so many times.
R.I.P. John Hughes.
RIP John. I just found out.
Condolences to his family and friends. What a tremendous talent, and what a loss to the film community. He gave so many laughs and good times to people that there is no way that those pearly gates aren't swinging open as wide as possible today.
It's tough when we start losing our iconic childhood hero's. He will be missed by all.
Well said Majik. I totally grew up in the 80's as well. This has been a rough summer 4 sure. I will miss those movies - Breakfast Club & Sixteen Candles r 2 of my favorite movies of all time. RIP John Hughes.
Wow. Too sad.
All of our icons are leaving us - shouldn't we be older when this happens?
Unite 80's teens! Reach out and grab life by the balls and make it count!
rest in peace, dear man.
THAT'S NOT A PILLOW!- Planes, Train's and Automobiles
Tyrnie- Oh Mr Tyrnie.. a history of mental illness in the family- Breakfast Club
I actually can recite the entire movie dialog of Breakfast Club- to the point where people don't like to watch it with me- I.Can't.help myself.
I was a teen of the '90s & his films spoke to me too. Another one who can quote the Breakfast Club dialogue verbatim.
Even got my younger brother into The Breakfast Club, which is damn near impossible if it doesn't have mindless violence or loads of sex.
RIP John and may many more learn the wisdom of your films.
Bueller? Bueller?
I am so bummed. This man wrote the stories of my childhood. I was a total child of the 80s and spent my summer nights watching tapes (yeah VCR!) of Sixteen Candles, Bueller, Vacation and Breakfast Club with my friends. We would spend our days outside at the pool and in the woods and our nights watching those movies. We still quote them when we see each other.
Give me a John Hughes 80s comedy any day over high class stuff. I am just devastated. What a loss. RIP Mr. Hughes and thank you for the gift you gave my generation.
Jake Ryan forever.
I just got home from a long staff meeting and saw this. I am both stunned and sad.
I don't know how many times I saw 16 Candles back in the day. And I try to watch Planes, Trains and Automobiles every Thanksgiving. Buehler is a classic. What a loss.
RIP John. I miss you.
Wow, another childhood icon gone? I grew up watching and living John Hughes' movies... rest in peace.
wow. this is such a sad blow...
john hughes generally--and sixteen candles specifcally--had such an significant impact on my formative years.
a geek...a totally relatable lead actress...and jake ryan. 20+ years later my friends and i still quote sixteen candles during the course of daily conversation. often. it was just that influential.
he will be missed...
Ah, Sixteen Candles is one of my favorite movies. And my husband knows all of the words to Ferris Bueller.
There really is a Ferris Bueller. He exists. Chicago's northern suburbs, just like in the movie... and it was a Jaguar and not a Ferrari.
"This is what my girlfriend would look like without skin."
That one line made me fall in love with Elias Koteas, and *cemented* John Hughes in my heart forever and ever.
RIP - He like Enty said made the movies I grew up on and still love to watch till this day. I can cry with them and laugh with them. I still recommend them to anyone who hasn't seen them and yes with my friends there are alot of them who hasn't seen them.... My husband is the biggest culprit of that!!! He doesn't quite understand my love for them!
Far far too young. This is just totally wrong.
Can't we appeal?
