Ronni Chasen, Bad Photos, And A Trip Down Whittier

Most of you have probably lost interest in the Ronni Chasen murder. To me though, it has not lost any of its interest and I think there are so many unexplained questions that have been glossed over in an effort to just get the story out of the news and to whitewash what happened.

As much as I love Coast To Coast, I am not a big conspiracy guy and I don't usually see shadows when they are not there. However, from the beginning this case seems like it has been adjusted for what would fit rather than finding out what really happened.

At the outset, the police said this had to be a professional hit because of the nature of the crime and the way the gunman managed to hit Chasen so accurately. Probably not the work of a guy who was practically homeless and as far as I know had no transportation.

The shooting took place at the intersection above. Although the Beverly Hills Hilton is a few blocks away there is nothing else but really expensive houses for a long way. Police and private security are everywhere and when I took the pictures, I spent about ten minutes on the street and saw 2 police cars, and 4 marked security cars. In addition, there were probably 20 private cars that came down Whittier.

It is certainly not a location where you would expect to see a homeless man lying in wait for an opportunity to strike. Yes, I know the ballistics on his gun matched the bullets used to shoot Chasen. However, no one has explained how this guy managed to do this shooting in full view of cars and video cameras, get away on his bike? Foot? Bus? No one has explained his statements to several people that he got paid $10,000 for the shooting, or why Ronni was shot so soon after changing her Will.

Anyway, Whittier is a very interesting street. If you are facing Whittier from the East as in the photo above, the house right here is on your left and has video cameras on the side which face towards the intersection. It is also probably an interesting note that the house belongs to a guy named Keanu Reeves. Yep, his tapes may have provided clues.
So, Ronni was shot at the intersection and proceeded south down Whittier. As she did so, she passed the home above which belongs to Neil Diamond. The wreath is actually in between Neil's house and his neighbor. The house in the distance which can be seen below in a much closer view belongs to Jessica Alba.Ronni was shot five times at the intersection and managed to make it about halfway down the block before coming to a stop. Where did our shooter go? If it was a hit, he did not go to check to see if he was successful. If it was not a hit, then how come he did not attempt to rob her? How come some guy shows up at some random intersection and decides to shoot the woman inside this car? I would like those answers and I don't think they have been given yet.

This is one of those murders that will probably never be solved...but for sure it was not a random hit. Someone wanted her dead, very badly.

I totally agree, there is more to this story and to this woman than what we have heard.

But most of all, I LOVE KEANUS' HOUSE AND I WANT IT!!!

Nice pics, Enty.

this case doesn't make any sense at all! why the cover up? i actually keep googling this every other day to see if more information might be released - such as why and how were the security cameras NOT WORKING at the intersection?!?

these types of killings always have a purpose. you've been in the industry long enough to know that. there will never be answers, just more cover-ups every time a plausible fact sneaks and leaks. there will always be a plant to take the fall...who almost always turns up dead, i bet he never imagined 10k would lead to his demise. it was awfully quick tho.

it's not just about what she knew. it's about who she knew and what she wouldn't go along with. it always is.

You missed your calling, Enty - maybe you should look into being a PI :)

I think your questions are valid Enty, in such an exclusive neighborhood how come nobody saw the homeless guy?

It amazes me the fact that while you took the pics the places were desertic, sure a car or two but not a single person on the street, so maybe that's why there were not witnesses apart from the security guards who didn't saw(or were told not to see) the guy, which leads to the point that whoever did it was in a fast car that probably blended in with the neighborhood aesthetics.

BTW I also love Keanu's house and I can totally see him in it.

These pics remind me of the site Findadeath.com. All you need is a photo of a mailbox.

And how do folks live in those little shacks?

Enty, please do not list the names of the celebrities with photos of their houses. There are crazy people in the world... That's not right.

Does any one know if she did a cameo in "The Comeback"? Looks so much like her but nothing in credits. I've been following the 1 season show on Sundance (on demand).

Cancan said...

I'm surprised that these houses are so close to, and visible from, the street. Like if I were walking my dog in the morning, would I see Keanu in his bathrobe getting his newspaper? Do they have to haul their trash cans out to the curb? My house has more privacy than that and Pickfair it ain't.

Ballistics is one of the most unreliable of the forensic "sciences", along with bite marks. I suggest you take a look at the National Academy of Sciences report on forensics. If I were on a jury, I wouldn't put very much stock in ballistics.

I agree, there has been something very fishy about the story from day one and that press conference where they announced the crime was solved was a complete trainwreck. The BHPD Chief is not an actor, and he didn't look like he believed what he was saying. I'm vaguely familiar with that area off Sunset and it is fairly quiet, I can imagine it was deserted at 1 AM, but the lack of security camera evidence does not make sense.

shakey said...

If she changed her will, who was in and who was out?

I agree with you, Ent. And I now covet Keanu's house.

Enty, thank you for this. Someone close to me was a longtime client of Ronni's and we both know a little bit about crime and murder investigations. And when we both heard that the BHS cops were going to go this one alone and not call in either LA County Sheriffs or even LAPD Homicide, we had a sinking feeling in our stomachs that the case would be botched.

I lived in LA a long time and still work there often and use the Whittier cut-through between Sunset and Wilshire pretty much every time I'm on that side of the Hill. I have used that cut through many many times at the time of night Ronni was on it. This is NOT a dangerous area. Not at all. (and I am someone who actually WAS carjacked in the 1990's on a very nice street in LA) There is also nowhere for a homeless guy ON A BICYCLE to lie in wait and hide. It is wide streets with huge homes and sweeping lawns all the way down, just as your photos show. And that's another thing. The guy was ON HIS BICYCLE? Hello, this is LA. Do you know how fucking long it would take to get from mid Hollywood to mid Bev Hills on a bike...and after dark? This is not a bike-friendly city. I cycled there and if I was cycling after dark/early in the morning, I had lights on my bike fore and aft and wore reflective gear from top to bottom because drivers do not like cyclists and tend to hit them and maim them when they're on major thoroughfares, like all the ones Harold the criminal mastermind would've had to have taken to get to his non-hidden hiding place. A homeless guy on a bike on that street would've been as obvious as an elephant.

There is so much more...like when did this major loser become such a crack shot and such an expert at disappearing his bullet casings? And yes, what about the bragging about the $10,000? Something really stinks and it is very upsetting to my friend who knew Ronni and what a fine and hard working person she was.

This is actually the second person in Beverly Hills I've known tangentially who was murdered, and the first one was never solved either. Creepy. In the first one, they pretty much know who did it. Very wealthy guy who was tried in another state for another murder and got off. But it was never proven. The Eddie Murphy movies were not very far off the mark, sad to say. Where is Judge Reinhold when you need him?

ms snarky said...

I agree all the way around. This murder was "solved" way too conveniently. In the end, it sounds like they didn't want to dig too deep.

Robert said...

@hunter: Interesting input. This whole investigation stinks out loud, and screamed whitewash by a very powerful contingent from the outset. This is the type of scenario movies are made about. Life imitating art?

Miss Jenny - It's so easy to find any celebrity's house with a house tour in LA. Those tours "buses" are everywhere. There's even maps with celebrities' houses marked. I'm too lazy to look it up.

Enty,
Could you do a post detailing all the known facts and situations in this case (like the pics above). I have been sort of following this, but missed the part about changing the will.

This case has been crazy from the start. First the police say it was a professional hit, because, really, who gets shot five time in the chest if it isn't? Then they say, no, it was a an attempted robbery. Though nothing in the car was taken, including her purse which was apparently on the passenger seat.

First the police say the gun didn't match. Then it did.

First the police say that the shots were fired downward, so the shooter must have been sitting in an SUV. Then they say, no, it was a semi-homeless guy on a bicycle.

First the police say the $10,000.00 the guy was bragging from was an insurance settlement. Then it wasn't.

Main questions: The police were there within minutes. How does a guy, in the dark, have time to find and pick up five shell casings before the police arrive? How did none of the police swarming to the area see a guy on a bicycle leaving the area? If it was a robbery, why is it nothing was taken?

MadLyb said...

Enty, please continue to post this kind of thing. This murder disturbs me in particular because I don't want to believe in conspiracy's, but something ain't right here.

C'mon - a homeless guy gets in five shots - most making their marks in this neighborhood? On a bike or on foot? You've got to be kidding me? I read the report on Tupac's shooting, and let me tell you, it was messy and the guy who did it likely had more experience than the accused. No, I don't buy the BHS BS.

If I've learned anything about our "justice" system in the last 20 years, it's that you can get away with murder if you're wealthy or famous enough. I definitely don't trust the BHS.

Electric Warrior said...

Thank you Enty!!! When I heard this case had been "solved" I was shocked. Not as shocked as when I read the report though. I thought that it was proven the shots were delivered from above, as in an SUV. Now, however, I'm supposed to believe she was hit in the chest by 5 bullets traveling at the same trajectory by a guy on a moving bike? And I thought that one of the first details to emerge was that the gun they found on the man that killed himself did not match the gun that killed Ronni. If I was a member of her family or even a resident of Beverly Hills I'd be screaming "foul!" at the top of my lungs.

And I <3 Findadeath, Momster!! Death Hags unite!!!

timebob said...

I think the crazy niece had her killed becuase she was pissed off about being cut out of the will.

Seachica said...

This is 100% a coverup. I was stunned at how lazy the cops were in saying the case was solved, even though the "murderer" is a homeless guy on a bike with no shooting experience. Whoever did this has some seriously high connections.

nancer said...

as covered above, my 2 biggest questions are:

1. the gun didn't match.....then it did. how the fuck does THAT happen? ballistics isn't like fiber analysis---it's either the gun or it's not the gun.

2. the shell casings. this guy manages to retrieve all FIVE? what's he do? leave his little bike laying in the street and run around looking for them? and nobody sees him?

sad to say, this sounds like one of those cases where the answer is HUGE and word went out to kill the story. this guy's dead, we'll say he did it and go on our way. it's the only thing that makes sense to me.

Karmen - I know all about the Star Maps and bus tours, I have been to LA a zillion times (former Hollywood club kid), but the maps they sell are out-dated and most of the time the listings are made-up in order to sell more maps or tours anyways.

a quick search on google will get you the same info as Enty posted if you want to know bad enough.

Wait wait, in response to why didn't anyone see the homeless guy: she was shot right near the school. Traffic is minimal on that street when not school/rush hours. I used to walk my dog along the street and it was always very quiet, so I have no trouble believing no one saw anything. I agree though that there is definitely something more at play here.

kathrynnova said...

and i don't think the answers are going to be given.

i really think it is awesome that you keep bringing this up. i mean, this is actually news. this is tragic and totally wrong from the beginning. but somehow most news consists of kardashian and lohan nonsense restated over and over and over.

but somehow i figured that this murder would be swept under a rug not too long after it was reported. maybe in 25 years someone will decide to write a screenplay about it.

the whole thing makes me really really sad.

ardleighstreet said...

Was the homeless man a marksman? Cause that's a hell of a good grouping if he's not.

Did he use a silencer? Why didn't everyones security come running?

This stinks to high heaven. Why not just say it was a lone shooter with one magic bullet that hit her five times? TPTB seem to want to make this go away. They'd be smarter just to tell the truth then this load of manure.

kathrynnova said...

just watch it enty - you don't want to start looking into this case so far that the people who killed ronni will want to kill you. that's what i would be scared of.

there is no real justice in the world. just whomever can pay the most.

HUNTER:
Are you referring to the Susan Berman/Durst murder? We all know he did it but was never charged.

Regarding the BHPD they recently had their feelings hurt when Sheriff Lee Baca went over their heads, on behalf of a friend, to see that a case was charged (for what I can't remember). Maybe Ronnie's family should ask him to intercede on their behalf.

On the other hand this has SCIENTOLOGY written all over it......hmmmm....the latest TRAVOLTA expose about to be published and Ronnie repped the author. I'm just saying.

I can't get over this cover up.

THANK YOU ENTY. This case has weighed on my mind since it happened, especially since I initially feared it was you that had been killed as a result of this blog. :(

I think this sounds like a crime committed by someone in the BHPD and this is why it's being covered up and why they're shooing away any other departments from getting involved. It makes sense a police sniper/office could pull off a murder like this. Many police departments are so tight to protect each other.

Mari said...

Very late but thank you Enty. I want more too. Dominick Dunne would have been all over this. (Missing him again.)
@Hunter and @Bitch Next Door, I thought of Ms Berman too when I heard this, I think there was dirty dealing there too, yeah, I think "someone" keeps getting away with murder, but there is something else too, just a feeling.
When I told my BFF the BHPD were now saying it was this homeless man, he said "wow, a former Spetsnaz operator homeless in LA" (snark) BFF is in the military, and thought the original professional idea was much more on the mark, as to the way it was carried out.
The BHPD doesn't exactly cover themselves with glory on a routine basis. I get the feeling that Inspector Clouseau would have a better track record.
There is just such a sinister feeling over this whole event; any murder is evil, but I guess I mean there is a feeling of 'agenda' rather than 'I need some crack' to the case. I keep feeling Ms Chasen either knew something or had done something that was a threat to another, and I have a feeling Ms Chasen was on the side of the angels in the issue.

Just to add to the history of the area, across the street (roughly) from Alba's house is where Howard Hughes crashed in the XF-11 back in 1946 (the crash was depicted in a lengthy sequence in The Aviator)
