Ted Williams Reunites With His Mom
Have you been following the Ted Williams story this week? No, not the dead baseball player. This is a homeless guy discovered by the Columbus Dispatch who has a golden voice. I mean like crazy good. Anyway, he had not seen his mom in 20 years so of course all the morning shows had to fight to see who would get to show the moment. They fought so hard that it ended up costing Ted an additional couple of days before he could see his mom. My question is what if the woman had died in the intervening days. Do you think the morning shows would have felt bad?

i really hope things work out for this guy, and that he's not so overwhelmed that he relapses. may this be a great year for him. boo to the ahole media that made him lose out on 2 days w/ mom.
Meanwhile, the Daily News has the story about the real hero: his wife who raised his kids, including one he had with a druggie girlfriend, alone.

He has been offered a job with NBC being a lead in voice for one of its shows.
If he is clean, he deserves another chance to live a normal life. Yes, he should apologize to his former wife and kids for his terrible mistakes. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
I hope that he go to twelve step meetings.

Hey, I'm gonna call foul on only one of the morning shows - the one who won aka The Today Show.
The Early Show got him first, found his mother, had him on the plane to NY, and had his mother at the airport to meet him. The Today Show whisks in at the airport and takes him out the backdoor with the help of airport security. Leaving his mother and the Early Show anchor wondering where he was. Seems to me that only one show delayed his meeting with his mother.
What a story - I hope he makes it, and kudos to his wife, hope she benefits from this as well.
This made me feel all warm and fuzzy yesterday, but I still remained a bit cynical. It just seems too Cinderella....he claims to have turned over a new leaf and waa laa! However the Daily Mail reports a different story. Personally, even if this guy TRIES to go straight, he'll have all sorts of hanger-ons coming out of the woodwork.
Just look at the folks we gossip about daily, it's hard enough to START OFF stable and stay stable, much less start off unstable and then BECOME stable.

Let's hope he stays clean and makes amends to his wife, children and anyone else he has harmed in the throes of addiction. I wish him well and that he makes some good choices from here on out.

I have been following it. I love a good story about redemption.
I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I hope he takes this opportunity to get straight and make up for all the time lost.

If he's like every other crack addict I've known, he's had second chances and third and fourth and so on.
My sympathy is with the family and kids and mom he didn't love as much as he loved the crack pipe.

I am definitely warmed by Ted and his potential for redemption. I want to believe!!!
But I have to admit - for the addicts in my own life (well, one in particular) I have little to no tolerance for their manipulative bullshit. If this was my addict ex being launched into the stratosphere like this, I'd be pretty disgusted and super pissed...
Still, I wish him well. Maybe this is a good exercise for me to be more forgiving...
It will be interesting to hear if and what his children have to say about him.

i hope this guy can handle it all. sometimes success is a curse - i hope that he has some good people around him that he can trust to get through it all. great that he's reunited with his mother. best of luck to him and i hope he finds a good balance and happiness.

Reallllly hope he comes good. Hard to say. Addicts always talk a good game. The fact that he allowed the reunion with his mother to be filmed, much less delayed by media makes me worry he's not going to be able to navigate this situation very well. Couldn't he have negotiated a private reunion, then allowed an interview? Moms doesn't seem totally convinced either. Love her steez though!

@thurbers-THAT EXPLAINS IT! wow, I saw the Early Show and his poor mom and the reporter waiting, and then the next day he was on Today, and I never put two and two together. Wow, that's lowdown for a story!
