Today's Blind Items - Kindness

Back in the day this actress was not A list, but she was the lead actress on a very popular network show designed for a younger audience. Really popular. She was young at the time and probably thought she would be on television forever. A big crush for a lot of people. Now, she does not do much, but looks for roles here and there. She is still young with lots of time and makes a living doing promotional appearances. One thing she also does is spend several hours each day at a community center where she tutors children, organizes activities and field trips and lots of other things and has been doing this for almost ten years. Back when she started her show was just ending and everyone thought she was doing it for publicity. 10 years later and they know she is there for the long haul. Oh, and she does it all for free.

i want to say Sarah Michelle Gellar (BUFFY)..but isn't she doing a new show now???

Kristen Bell or Sarah Michelle Gellar? Though SMG now has a new show. I'm no good at blind items.

Hmmm Candace Cameron from Full House??

Cathy said...

I want to say Leslie Bibb or Carly Pope, since Enty kept emphasizing the word "popular" and that show ended ten years ago... but aside from Leslie being in that zookeeper movie, I have no idea what either of them have been up to lately.

Lizzie McGuire?

She does fit the description of looking for the right role, and not doing much lately.

And she seems so super-nice.

Cathy said...

But wasn't Lizzie McGuire on cable?

For some reason MaryAnn from Gilligan's Island popped into my head. The "back in the day" makes me think more than 20-30 years ago. But I am usually wrong, lol.

Soleil Moon Frye as in Punkie Brewster?

Cecilia00 said...

Jennifer Love Hewitt also fits (Party of Five being the popular show) but she still works regularly, no matter how bad that work is.

Blossom - Mayim Bialik

I say Candace Cameron. She is supposed to be a doll.

someone from 90210?

Tiffany Amber Thiessen aka Kelly Kapowski

What about Winnie Cooper? Danica Something? She wrote a bunch of books geared toward kids about math not too long ago.

so if he says she's been doing it almost 10 years, and she started as her show was ending we are looking for a show ending early 2000ish? am i reading that right? if show here are some cancelled hows:

2000 - party of five, boy meets world, beverly hills 90210

2001 - popular (which ironically really wasn't)

2002 - roswell, felicity

2003 - sabrina the teenage witch, buffy, dawson's creek

i don't have a solid guess though cuz its seems like most these actresses still work consistently. and my lists my not be entirely thorough.

Winnie Cooper from Wonder Years!

I was liking the Blossom and Candace Cameron guesses. But based on Bnl's list, I'll say the girl who played Topanga on Boy Meets World.

RocketQueen said...

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was the one that occurred to me.

sassyyankee said...

Winnie Cooper. She has several book published on math and pops up here and there on TV shows showing kids math can be cool.

Cuckoo Armadillo said...

Mayim "Blossom" Biyalik has a PhD in neuroscience, which seems like it would be too much of a timesuck to make volunteering feasible.

RocketQueen said...

^lol you mean that isn't just her character on Big Bang Theory??

Deep said...

No offense to Candice Cameron, but I feel like if she did something like this, it would be affiliated with a church, and her brother would broadcast it, to show all the good things Christians do for their community.

My money is on one of the girls from Popular.

The other ladies were A list (SMG, J-love) or seem like they would have had a photo-op by now.

Cathy said...

I like the Topanga guess... she hasn't really been in anything since Boy Meets World, but has done promotional work for one of the weight loss programs (I forget which one) and also makes random cameos on The Soup.

Murphy Brown 2020 said...

@RQ -- "you mean that isn't just her character on Big Bang Theory??"

Nope. Cuckoo Armadillo speaks the truth. Blossom Russo does, indeed, have a doctorate in neuroscience.

pusssykatt said...

"Topanga" is Danielle Fishel and I LOVE HER! She hasn't really acted lately, but she does do the "The Dish" on the Style Channel (it's similar to "The Soup"). It's on Sunday nights...but it could still be her.

RocketQueen said...

lol Deep - I was thinking that, but didn't say it. I had to remove her from Twitter because all the god promotion talk was getting under my skin.

Green Wave Gal said...

Mayim got her PhD here at UCLA a few years after I did. She was my friend's advisee as an undergrad and she was like 204567 months pregnant when she got her PhD. My office runs the graduation ceremony. :)

Cecilia00 said...

Yeah, I rule out Mayim because the line "she thought she would be on television" to me, should not apply to someone who goes and gets their PhD in Neuroscience. Same with Danica McKellar - who is math whiz and obviously looked at other avenues.

Liking the Danielle Fishel guess

I would like to go with the Blossom guess. Blossom was the lead character. Candace wasn't the main lead character...she was 1 of many lead characters on that show.

I like the Mayim Bialik guess too.

The gals from Popular still work regularly, and I doubt they thought they'd be on television forever. Do you really think Mayim was a "big crush" for anyone? I vote Topanga - when the show was on, all anyone said about her was how gorgeous she was.

Nonya said...

What about staci keanen from "my two dads" and "step by step"?

How bout Alyssa Milano

BrandieMarie said...

I actually really like the Danielle Fishel guess too.

The only thing that held me back was that she's often on a radio show I listen to on Sirius - Cocktails with Patrick on Cosmo radio - and when she calls in she's always talking about doing school work. She's working on a bachelor's degree in pyschology (she may have just finished this past spring) and then will go on to do her masters. I thought, who would have time to volunteer if she's in school, but at the same time, i do remember her saying its taken awhile because she just goes part time so she can still do other things (aka The Dish).

Here's an interview she did where (towards the bottom) she talks about college, and wanting to have a Plan B since the entertainment industry is so finicky. She'd like to have another sitcom but if not she'd open her own psych practice specifically for divorced children & couples.

Seems to fit.

I am going with Rory from Gilmore Girls . . . not doing much and never hear about her anymore except for the occasional appearance. All the other people mentioned above are still working fairly actively.

@Bnl1016: Excellent detective work!

Don't forget, folks, that we're looking for someone who was the star of her show and who was the object of crushes. That latter part pretty much rules out Mayim Bialik (not to mention the fact that she's worked fairly steadily ever since "Blossom" and is a regular on "Big Bang" and was HILARIOUS in the episode where she attempted to kiss Sheldon).

Like Rocket Queen, I thought about Sabrina, but I looked Melissa Joan Hart up and she's worked steadily ever since, so I haven't any other ideas.

Jason Blue Eyes said...

I'm throwing out Tamara Mello from Popular. I had the BIGGEST crush on her and she seemed so sweet in real life.

I'll also guess Emma Caulfield from Buffy and Sabrina Lloyd from Sliders and Sports Night.

Heather Locklear?

Claire Danes?

margo said...

Danica McKellar - she was Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years. She's not really acting but has written books on helping kids better understand math. She does the promotional gig for her books and is an advocate for education. This seems like something she'd do.

Melissa Joan Hart or Amanda Bynes?

Miss X said...

Danielle Fishel seems to fit the clues.

I thought about Alexis Biedel (Rory from Gilmore Girls) but that show ended in 2007 (or was it 2006?) so she doesn't fit the 10 year clue.

Moonmaid said...

Both Melissa Joan Hart and Amanda Bynes were HUGE in the day with their young audiences, and neither has done much acting work that is noticeable in a while. Melissa Joan Hart just always seemed to have a nice way about her, so I'm thinking it's probably her. Amanda Bynes seems to be gunning for that starlet image nowadays.

I don't think it's Candace Cameron she has been a regular on Make It or Break It for the last couple years.
