Hurricane Sandy

I know I am thinking about everyone on the east coast. I have been in touch with some friends in the Outer Banks in North Carolina and they say Sandy is pretty miserable. For all of you in the path of this storm, I hope that you all keep your power and that you are hunkered down with everything you need and that everything blows right by with no damage and that the rest of us are thinking about all of you.

Wanted to update you all on what I've been seeing here...as it will update you all up North. This is a typical storm -- lots of wind, rain, coastal flooding, and some damage...but it's by no means the worst storm I've seen (and I've lived here my whole life). That being said, BE SMART! If you are told to evacuate, do so. At the very least make sure you have extra food, water, batteries, prescription drugs, and necessities. You might lose power, but it will likely be restored in a a few days. If you must evacuate, please bring your pets!! They need safe housing too!!!

but, if all else fails -- make my favorite hurricane cocktail...get nice and toasty...and wait out the storm. here's the recipe:

2 oz light rum
2 oz dark rum
2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
Juice of a half a lime
1 Tbsp simple syrup
1 Tbsp grenadine
Orange slice and cherry for garnish

I have Dogs that are very well socialized so bring your Dogs and Cats. I have a generator (we have tornado's). Plenty to entertain people. Home cooking.

SANDY UPDATE: FAIRFIELD CT EDITION

A TREE fell on a house a block from me 2 hours ago. This is the third time the power went off on the hour. The last 2 times it was back on in under 20 minutes. I'm hoping it goes back on. It's to rerout lines but it's totally messing with my head! I'm googling how to hold a seance bc I'm trying to get my money's worth out of all these candles. And I'm doing my extra special hurricane family contribution by eating the ice cream before it melts. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it. I wouldn't call myself a hero, I'm just doing what any god fearing American would do in time of crisis. It's chocolate. Start hammering out my gold medal. It's Katherine with a "K". Show Don"t Tell said...: Sunny, I agree with you on the lack of clarity for the poster. The poster I instantly thought of when told this person was posting on this blog, was a completely different commenter. In all honesty, I also don't read CDAN comments section every single day, either.

The poster I instantly thought for this person was due to a comment left a bit ago and I cannot remember the specifics. The BI was abut a musician who was awarded some type of industry award and the musician (I believe in the BI it was mentioned to be a female artist). The BI went like this: A fan made the drive from LA to San Diego or something, wanted a picture or autograph to be signed by the honored artist. The artist refused and Enty made a mention of the fan driving all that distance and being snubbed.

I remember someone's post (the post read to me like a real insider) the poster explained the artist didn't stick around after the award show due to the artist having to use the bathroom??? Then and now this comment has to be the oddest remark ever made on this blog. However, my initial response when this person told me she posts to this blog, was to go to that obscure post. Initially, I questioned the poster's name given to me, but the poster was intoxicated and how could she come up with another posters name so quickly? I certainly hope someone else remembers the weirdest post ever in the comments section for a BI. I cannot remember when Enty posted the BI, maybe in the late spring sometime.

Anyway, too much fun in one day and the real world keeps going. Good Luck to everyone affected by the horrendous storm and be safe.

May Flower said...: I'm really worried about this storm. I'm 2,000 miles away, but everyone dear to me (except my husband) is right in the damn thick of Sandy. My brother will be working all night--outside--trying keep roads clear and safe where he lives and scouting for downed power lines. Yikes. I'm pretty sure our little, shared family home at the Jersey shore (my uncle bought it in 1965) is currently under water. Nobody is there, thank goodness, as my aunt and uncle evacuated yesterday.

This is really scary. I have friends and family from Connecticut to DC, but my immediate family is right in the path of this thing, not far inland from the coast.

I'm not a lawyer, but I do work for several, and I don't believe you can sue someone just because they hurt your feelings. Yes, it sucks when people talk trash about you (whether or not you actually did that of which you're accused, but AFAIK butthurt does not constitute just cause for legal action, particularly if one is a public figure.

(Screw the whole "The Person Who Must Not Be Named" business--let's just cut to the chase and call her Voldemort from now on, OK?)

As for Sandy, we're still here and still have power *knock knock knock*; hopefully the rain won't be too horrible overnight, and I'll actually be able to sleep & not worry too much about water creeping in. One of our readers was at a resort where she ran into LR. LR treated the whole staff and her husband like complete and total crap. LR got tipsy at the bar and told our reader that she comments on CDaN. I THINK our reader was convinced that LR posted under WCN12 because of a misunderstanding on our reader's part. I and a few other people thought that LR was perhaps a reader named Clearly Disturbed who gets WAAAAY to defensive and aggressive in LR and BG posts

Sunny, thanks. Yes, I think clearly disturbed sounds more like LeeAnne than whocaresnow12. And really, if you think about it, the name "clearly disturbed" seems kind of an in your face FU to the people who keep saying she's disturbed.

A woman was in the parking lot of a Staples, when the (Staples) sign came loose and conked her on the head. Paramedics tried to resucitate her, but she died. Just awful.; 8:47 PM

The winds seem to be dying down, I guess the worst is gone but the tide just hit high at midnight and my town is already flooded very far in.

The saddest thing I've heard other than 3 people dying here, is there was an orange cloud in Greenwich CT which turned out to be 4 homes on fire. Firemen had to turn away because of impassible flooding and power lines down, leaving the homes to just burn. I don't know about the people inside. Now I'm worried about a NJ nuclear power plant whose water level is 1 foot from the level that I guess messes with the cooling?; 9:06 PM

Try not to get too stressed out. They said the winds here are going to be really bad between 1 am and 4 am. Power is out in certain parts of the city, but not here. I filled my tub and will prepare my coffee maker for the morning (I'm hopeful the power will be on).; 9:16 PM

And to all of you going through the storm, be safe. I have no idea what's like to go through a hurricane, a tornado or a earthquake. What I do know is what's like to have a couple of days of curfew imposed by drug dealers because somebody (probably in the the police) killed one of them and they decide to spread terror... oh well, no place is safe in at least some kind of way, right?; 7:33 AM

The alleged individual is allegedly such a pathetic famewhore that it wouldn't surprise me. If this alleged person we're allegedly reading and posting, I'd allegedly tell them to get into some cognitive behavioral therapy and work through self-esteem issues. If she's allegedly worried about him allegedly cheating, then she needs to let go and stop holding on to a relationship that does not have real trust in it. Don't hang on to it just to prove yourself right if it's all sorts of wrong, sweetheart. Allegedly.

My parents live in Monmouth County, two blocks behind the ocean and two blocks in front of a river & we still aren't sure how their apartment is yet (they can't get back there yet). Most of their little town and surrounding beach towns are destroyed. I'm so sad for all those affected by this storm. The first responders, fire, police, nurses, etc. are my heros. I hope all you CDANers are safe.
