Hurricane Sandy

I know I am thinking about everyone on the east coast. I have been in touch with some friends in the Outer Banks in North Carolina and they say Sandy is pretty miserable. For all of you in the path of this storm, I hope that you all keep your power and that you are hunkered down with everything you need and that everything blows right by with no damage and that the rest of us are thinking about all of you.

    @silver - what lawsuit? I'm just curious because I was close to commenting on a blind recently. I wanted to make the point that the person in the blind also had had problems with organised crime figures in the past. Blogger ate my comment and I was glad. I don't want to mess with these people. But the lawsuit thing makes me curious.

    @silver - what lawsuit? I'm curious because I wrote a comment on a recent blind about how the popular guess had some trouble with organised crime figures in the past.     Zince I am in Mi and all we will get is wind and rain. I want all CDaners to know if and when another Hurricane shows up you are welcome to come here. I have Dogs that are very well socialized so bring your Dogs and Cats. I have a generator (we have tornado's). Plenty to entertain people. Home cooking.

    But, for now everyone stay save. You all make my day with the comments.

    @mynerva - was it the lawsuit where whocaresnow12 was badmouthing some people and a woman at the next table recorded her conversation? I don't remember a lot of the details but I remember discussing whether the woman would get in trouble since she didn't inform our subject she was tape recording her. I believe our subject was badmuthing her husband's ex wife. I'm just too damn lazy to look for the post.

    This is the best thread ever - an outpouring of love and good vibes + a good reveal within a post. Losing my commenting virginity also after 6 years of reading this site daily. You guys have kept me mightily entertained over the years so I just wanted to send some good vibes to everyone on the East Coast. Lived in NYC for 7 years and my last weekend there was when Irene came through town...throwing a hurricane and evacuation from Flood Zone A on top of apartment packing for a cross country move was a helluva time. But in the end all was well! Here's wishing you the same outcome for Sandy. Be strong and be safe and much love!

    I'm in NJ, close to Six Flags Great Adventure.

    The wind has been worse than the rain. Sandy's center is due to hit Cape May. The Shore is wrecked.

    I've been hunkered down. I'm waiting for it to be all over. Craziness.

It is so sad that people think because of their social standing, better yet, their perceived social standing that they can treat those they deem a "lesser" person like shit.     SANDY UPDATE: FAIRFIELD CT EDITION

    A TREE fell on a house a block from me 2 hours ago. This is the third time the power went off on the hour. The last 2 times it was back on in under 20 minutes. I'm hoping it goes back on. It's to rerout lines but it's totally messing with my head! I'm googling how to hold a seance bc I'm trying to get my money's worth out of all these candles. And I'm doing my extra special hurricane family contribution by eating the ice cream before it melts. It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it. I wouldn't call myself a hero, I'm just doing what any god fearing American would do in time of crisis. It's chocolate. Start hammering out my gold medal. It's Katherine with a "K". Peace out.

    I'm really worried about this storm. I'm 2,000 miles away, but everyone dear to me (except my husband) is right in the damn thick of Sandy. My brother will be working all night--outside--trying keep roads clear and safe where he lives and scouting for downed power lines. Yikes. I'm pretty sure our little, shared family home at the Jersey shore (my uncle bought it in 1965) is currently under water. Nobody is there, thank goodness, as my aunt and uncle evacuated yesterday.

    This is really scary. I have friends and family from Connecticut to DC, but my immediate family is right in the path of this thing, not far inland from the coast.

    Worried. Very worried.

    Concord, NH, where my husband's family lives, is without power right now, and it's windy and rainy. My mother-in-law said her boss wouldn't close up early. He made them stay until the regular closing time at 5 p.m. I can only assume everyone still made it home okay.

    beguessin: If those are the 2 options, sign me up for RDJ any day! At least we know he's a kind person with a good sense of humor who doesn't take himself too seriously, as opposed to those who behave badly and have no sense of humor or perspective when called on it.

    I'm not a lawyer, but I do work for several, and I don't believe you can sue someone just because they hurt your feelings. Yes, it sucks when people talk trash about you (whether or not you actually did that of which you're accused, but AFAIK butthurt does not constitute just cause for legal action, particularly if one is a public figure.

    (Screw the whole "The Person Who Must Not Be Named" business--let's just cut to the chase and call her Voldemort from now on, OK?)

    As for Sandy, we're still here and still have power *knock knock knock*; hopefully the rain won't be too horrible overnight, and I'll actually be able to sleep & not worry too much about water creeping in. I suspect I'll have to go to work in the morning, but we'll see. Good luck to everyone else out there, and stay safe, OK?

    The short story AS I UNDERSTAND IT :)

    One of our readers was at a resort where she ran into LR. LR treated the whole staff and her husband like complete and total crap. LR got tipsy at the bar and told our reader that she comments on CDaN. I THINK our reader was convinced that LR posted under WCN12 because of a misunderstanding on our reader's part. I and a few other people thought that LR was perhaps a reader named Clearly Disturbed who gets WAAAAY to defensive and aggressive in LR and BG posts

    Sunny, thanks. Yes, I think clearly disturbed sounds more like LeeAnne than whocaresnow12. And really, if you think about it, the name "clearly disturbed" seems kind of an in your face FU to the people who keep saying she's disturbed.

    When you reread the lawsuit thread, it also sounds like the other lady in the lawsuit (the teacher) was posting under a pseudonym.

    That's right Amber - I was just going to mention that to Tuxedo Cat. It happened about 10 minutes away from my place. A woman was in the parking lot of a Staples, when the (Staples) sign came loose and conked her on the head. Paramedics tried to resucitate her, but she died. Just awful.

    I'm beyond confused. My power just came back on for the third time. I jumped out of bed to enjoy all my electronic things until I pass out or it goes dark again. The winds seem to be dying down, I guess the worst is gone but the tide just hit high at midnight and my town is already flooded very far in.

    The saddest thing I've heard other than 3 people dying here, is there was an orange cloud in Greenwich CT which turned out to be 4 homes on fire. Firemen had to turn away because of impassible flooding and power lines down, leaving the homes to just burn. I don't know about the people inside. Now I'm worried about a NJ nuclear power plant whose water level is 1 foot from the level that I guess messes with the cooling?

    Kats, I think you need a sleeping pill, lol. Don't get worked up about things you can't control - it'll make you crazy. Enjoy the light and your computer or TV.

    Try not to get too stressed out. They said the winds here are going to be really bad between 1 am and 4 am. Power is out in certain parts of the city, but not here. I filled my tub and will prepare my coffee maker for the morning (I'm hopeful the power will be on).

    @kats...they shut down most of the Salem and Hope Creek reactors before the storm and anticipated shutting them completely down if/when winds reached a certain speed and/or if floodwaters got too high.

    All is good here - there were scattered power outages around the city, but I wasn't affected. Trees & wires down in some places, transit affected and re-routed because of that, but for the most part, everything is fine here, and the worst seems to be over.

I honestly thought it was going to be as simple as those two knowing each other in person and Skyy finding out something horrible. Mind = not exactly blown but definitely swaying in the breeze.

    The alleged individual is allegedly such a pathetic famewhore that it wouldn't surprise me. If this alleged person we're allegedly reading and posting, I'd allegedly tell them to get into some cognitive behavioral therapy and work through self-esteem issues. If she's allegedly worried about him allegedly cheating, then she needs to let go and stop holding on to a relationship that does not have real trust in it. Don't hang on to it just to prove yourself right if it's all sorts of wrong, sweetheart. Allegedly.

    Oh god sorry I posted all my panic. I don't even remember anything I posted! I just found the source of a huge crash I heard last night but it was a neighbors tree and fell away from the house luckily. It's just a ton of not chainsaw worthy branches down in my yard. My power has been on since 11:30 last night which I hate to tell anyone bc 90% of my town is dark! But OMG CRISIS! My iphone is barely texting. I don't know if it's wifi bc my pc works or AT&T.     I hope you are all happy. I have spent my entire morning whacked out on cold medicine and sleuthing on old blinds and Enty identities (I have a guess, but who fucking cares, really?).

    And I missed the Skyy thing and it is now gone. D'oh!

    So glad to hear our CDaNers on the East Coast are doing well. Hurricanes are yet another reason I love my little corner of the country - we never get them. The worst we deal with is the occasional blizzard (and a couple minor e-quakes like 10 years ago). I grew up in tornado alley and I don't miss that at all.

    I have been glued to CNN news coverage of the storm since yesterday afternoon only stopping this evening b/c I couldn't take it anymore. My parents live in Monmouth County, two blocks behind the ocean and two blocks in front of a river & we still aren't sure how their apartment is yet (they can't get back there yet). Most of their little town and surrounding beach towns are destroyed. I'm so sad for all those affected by this storm. The first responders, fire, police, nurses, etc. are my heros. I hope all you CDANers are safe.

    P.S. Y'all are spending WAY too much time on LeAnn Rimes. ;-) There is someone out there keeping up a Twitter account soley b/c she blocked someone? o_O

    @Amber, a blogger friend of mine says its not as uncommon as you might think. If two/three people seem to be the only one interested in a topic or an OT topic, if a shit stirrer appears out of nowhere and only one poster keeps getting involved with them or sometimes they are sponsered & on someones payroll, more often than not its one person. Weird as fuck & nutty, but does happen.
