Jim Lange, the first host of the popular game show "The Dating Game," has died at his home. He was 81. He is best known for his television role on ABC's "The Dating Game," on which he appeared for more than a decade. He played host to many celebrity guests including Michael Jackson, Steve Martin and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even a pre-"Charlie's Angels" Farrah Fawcett appeared on the program, introduced as "an accomplished artist and sculptress" with a dream to open her own gallery.

70s game shows were the best. RIP Mr. Lange.
I enjoyed all the Chuck Barris game shows and the hosts were huge parts of them. RIP.
I didn't know him, RIP anyway.
I used to sit and watch reruns of all the old game shows. Loved them. RIP.
Blowing you a big kiss...RIP Mr Lange.
'70's game shows WERE the best. Now the contestants are so bland. Back then you'd laugh constantly. I'm sure there was a full bar in the '70's green room.
RIP, MR. LANGE
Nothing to add to that, FSP. Ditto. Bon voyage, Jim. ☹
My sister and I used to watch with our backs to the screen and pick out our own bachelors. Lots of hairy men back then, but a great show. RIP
Good-bye Jim. I used to love watching this show with my babysitter.
I miss those days of game shows and soap operas.
Who didn't like the Dating Game? That and the Newlywed Game were great laughs.
Yeah, makes me miss the 70s game show hall of famers...Richard Dawson, Charles Nelson Riley, Paul Lynde, the Password and Ten Thousand Dollar Pyramid hosts (can't remember their names!)
@Sandybrook I bought a copy of Chuck's book Confessions of a Dangerous Mind signed by him off of eBay from him. You can still find them on there I believe. The copy I got also came with a Gong Show DVD that I guess he burned of outtakes that are even funnier than the show. He signed it "This is me saying Best Wishes and Good Luck, Chuck Barris".
One notable person Enty didn't add who was on The Dating Game was Andy Kaufman, always love seeing that episode. Jim Lange was the consummate game show host and in my opinion is right up there with Bob Barker.
Aw, this is sad. I'm old enough to remember this show, and "The Newlyweds". As a child, I was mesmerized by the giant, colorful flowers on the set design. :(
Best.Episode.Ever.

@Persephone LOL! Her outfit is so awful yet she looks so fantastic.
@Rowdy, Tom Selleck was on there too.
@Gene Gene the Dancing Machine was the greatest part of the Gong Show besides Jaye P. Morgan.
Chuck=undercover govt agent bwahaha!
I watched also. Many times the guy I would have picked was Jim. RIP Mr. Lange.
He was a friend of my dads, he said he was a class act and a great guy, RIP Jim.
