Love love this show.
I didn't know Jonah Hill did time.
that was worth the read
interesting
how people don't always see the sitch the same way and really believe they are both truth telling
Haven't seen the OITNB yet
OT - Donnie Wahlburg put a ring on it
LOVE OITNB, and that was a very interesting article - thank you for that. I knew they didn't stick to the book after the initial premise, so it's not a huge shocker.
I do, however, question journalistic integrity when the writer describes the oatmeal-bland lead as, "Taylor Schilling, that gorgeous blond actress with the hypnotic Crest teeth". And then also says "riding her car down Lombard Street" - you don't ride a car, you drive a car or ride in it.
Yup @rajahcat! People can experience and interpret the same events very differently. I get asked a lot about how accurate the depictions of this show are. One of the biggest things that boggles my mind is that there are still no documented instances in the U.S. of females forming prison gangs. There are both all-female and even all-lesbian street gangs. For whatever reason(s), women tend to organize themselves and their time in custody differently than their male counterparts. Not to say that gangs don't matter for women, they do, but they organize by street gang affiliations or more broadly by race. I'm surprised these issues haven't come up more on OITNB. While the show clearly does glamorize the lesbian behaviors and/or situational homosexuality, it is unfair to say that's not accurate. One thing I REALLY don't miss is dealing with daily you-stole-my-woman drama bullshit, because everyone be fucking everyone up in there
Not surprised at all by that. The politics of OITNB have been picked apart in terms of it's portrayals of race, class, gender and sexuality. Schilling gets the brunt of it, as many argue that the show would not have been possible or relatable without using this wealthy pretty white woman as a "TROJAN HORSE"
she does get the brunt
and I am not sure how I feel about her character or portrayal-whether it is necessary to move the show along or not????? But I can see the point of it
Her book was so fucking boring, I couldn't even finish it. That is rare for me - I usually will power through. But what a snoozer!
The book is non-fiction, but the show is fiction. I was surprised they were able to keep so many of the people from the book, right down to their names. I'm not sure how I'd feel if my persona was put into situations that never happened.
I can't STAND Taylor Schilling in OITNB. Gahhhh!!!
parissucksliterally, the thing I didn't like about Piper Whatserpickle's book is how she treated jail like a spa. An inconvenient, book-filled spa. Full of people to entertain her. Ick
