Blind Items Revealed #2- Anniversary Month

January 28, 2008

This C/B- film actress and only film. Big films at that. Is not quite of the legal age of consent. This might explain her father's concern when she brought home her 35 year old boyfriend she met on her most recently completed film.

Emma Watson (I probably wouldn't call her that low now, even though it is probably a more accurate reflection of now rather than in early 2008.)

To be pedantic , she was 18 in 2008 and the age of consent in the UK is 16.

not even pedantic really. She's English, her parents live in England. The age of consent in England is 16. So not illegal.

She was 17 then, and over the UK age of consent. Her parents may not have liked her bf, but not for that reason.

One of the happiest thoughts in my life is Emma's attraction to significantly-older men.

And, all kidding aside, was this BF banker Jay Barrymore? I'm pretty sure the timelines line up, except I thought he was around 28 at the time, not 35.

Even in 2008 that rating sucked Enty. She was the female lead in one of the biggest franchises ever.

you must be age of consent in the country you are in not where you are from. huge difference.

"a," she was born in France, but raised in, and had this boyfriend in, the UK. So, not at all below the age of consent. So everything's perfectly fine, legal and above-board.

All of which, of course, points up how silly some of this talk can get.

I live in the state of Massachusetts, in which -- at least back in the 70s, when I was a teenager -- the age of consent is 16. The western border of the state is with New York, where the age of consent is 18.

So, let's imagine Emma's wealthy 35-year-old boyfriend had a big house there, in, say, Williamstown, Massachusetts, and they summered there. He, 35 years old, she, 17. He's got a big back yard -- so big that the western part of it is actually over the border into New York. They have a lovely picnic under the moon, and afterwards, make love, beautiful, romantic, with a symphony playing. It's all fine, she's of legal age, and able to freely consent...

Until, in throes of passion, they roll over in the grass and cross the state line, and now he's a no-good dirtbag pedophile -- at least according to almost everyone you see posting here.

Which is why maybe maturity is more important than legal age in discussing these matters. It's not simple, but it's more sane.

It always blows my mind seeing the rampaging hoards here in the CDaN comments section scream "Pedophile" -- a clinical term referring to someone whose pathology causes them to experience the genderlessness of prepubescence as a replacement for gendered characteristics as a cue for arousal -- anytime someone over the age of 18 is implied to have had sex with someone under 18, when I've lived most of my life in a state where an 18-year-old has been legally entitled to engage in carnal activities for two years. Figuring out ways to demonstrate the essential dunderheadedness of the popular attitudes about this stuff.

legal or not that age difference is still uncomfortable for a parent, HERMOINE would never

There aren't a lot of rampaging hoards here these days Jonathan. This post has 12 comments (well, 13 including this one) and four of those comments are yours.

I did like Emma in Bling Ring and This Is The End.

Why is it when I press the "enter" key on my laptop it takes me back to the previous page?
