What A++ actor/singer and Oscar winner/nominee had the image of the all-American family man, but he had a little secret that he kept from the public. He grew weed in his backyard and was pretty good at rolling a joint.

Lots of people have been growing and smoking weed for a very long time. It was pretty big in the 20s & 30s.

I typed something similar, but abandoned it.
Isn't he the one who had three sons commit suicide because of how horrible he was? Pot was the least of his worries.
He had family man image back in the day but it has been much reported what an abusive father he was for his first family when his oldest sons first started talking about it- in the 60's or 70's I think.
I could care less about his weed habit but he was reportedly a terrible father. I think two sons committed suicide.
So much for pot mellowing people out. "I'll buh-buh-buh-beat the shit out of you, Satchel-ass!"
And he was good at berating, beating his wife and kids and drinking, pretending to be the most perfect example of a good man, husband and father. JERK..
didn't know about the sons. did know he was alienated from his daughter that was on Dallas back in the day. People were able to get away with a lot of abuse and hardly any blow back.Oh wait. Let me think how different today. Ray Rice. But no, he suffered suicidal thoughts it was so horrible the aftermath of negative publicity with people saying he was a scumbag for knocking out his wife. It was like someone had knocked him out in an elevator. Sorry mother....let me stop here.
A lot of abusive types are as sweet as can be when it's required of them or with a select 'audience'.

You would think the a--hole would have been more mellow.
For those interested, Bing's son Gary wrote a book in 1983 called "Going my Own Way". He wrote about the problems in the household he grew up in and Bing's abuse. Two of his brothers committed suicide by shooting themselves. Gary died of lung cancer. The fourth brother died of natural causes but I think all four died had drinking problems. An abusive family situation can leave its' members shattered and struggling for life.
