Today's Blind Items - The Stranger
So, the paps are trying their best, but have failed to figure it out so two tabloid reporters have been assigned to follow this newly married couple with the A list movie/television actor who is an Academy Award winner/nominee as the groom. Apparently there is a man that has been spotted several times with the wife, but for only brief moments. The paps have seen the man and have photos of him, but have none of him with the wife because she comes out of nowhere, they don't meet in public and the meetings are usually under two minutes. The best they have got is a fuzzy shot through some dark windows a couple of times. The tabloid reporters have been trying to buy security footage from the places, but either have not had luck or there is nothing good on the video. Is he the lover? A blackmailer? He is definitely out of place.

Right - but he's locked in a consulate somewhere I think. I do think this is Amal, though. She just got hired by a Greek shipping guy or something. I saw it on BBC, I think. A lot of the cases she works on require stealth.

It doesn't say foreign born so probably not BC and Sophie. Also it would be a short term thing as they still pretty much live in London and are just honeymooning in CA and Bora Bora. Also, an affair while pregnant? That is wrong on so many levels and the drugs option is worse! Clooney sounds plausible, his wife is always out and about on her own.
It's prolly Bendy. GC's isn't newly married and he doesn't do TV. Methinks Sophie meets with the real babydaddy to discus monetary transactions and the like. Maybe Bendy suspects something's up but wants to gather evidence for legal reasons. This dovetails with the last BI about Sophie conning Bendy.

Def Cumberbatch. I don't think Clooney is referred to as a movie/television actor. I can't imagine Sophie is using drugs while pregnant, and if she was having an affair I doubt they could conduct it in under two minutes at a time. I wonder what's going on.

George & Amal just got married less than 6 months ago-that's newly married to me..& he's very well known for his T.V. on E.R. esp.since he stayed on ER & fulfilled his Contract w/ER even though he was becoming a big well known movie-star & hollywood hunk--i still think of him as Movies/TV because of his loyalty to ER
I don't live in Usa or Uk so I know very little about this Cumberbatch guy. Only name and face because Oscars or some awards show, I don't remember. So can you call him A list actor? Well maybe then if you just consider the Uk and Usa.. Clooney did a well known tv-show ER and after that he's been in movies so you could call him movie and tv-actor.

BC is an Oscar nominee. It doesn't necessarily mean nominee and winner, is one or the other.
Man, is he a magnet these days for gossip! But how can he not, with the personal life plastered all over (like that will get him any awards, I believe Zero is the exact number he got for TIG), and now with him and his new Shot Gun wife calling the paparazzi every other day.

I know. BC, I like his acting and voice workd and was nice to read his interviews, hear his work and see vid's. He normally used to stick to his projects and craft.
Now lately wondering what all the fuss has been about when I read an interview a bit ago and it really did not seem like him/his style I wondered what was up...i thought maybe it was just an off interview or something.

Because all of their latest 3 paparazzi encounters, the one with the Jaguar promotion by the ocean, the whale watching and the latest one from their honeymoon are all set up by BC/SH people, maybe to prove their are not shot gun (yeah, right), maybe to avert the attention of his big Bafta/SAG/GG/Oscar failure. And what a failure that was.
So don't feel sorry for them, BC was supposed to be one of the great actors, but now I think he settled for being a celebrity.

The tabloid interest in their marital stuff right now is hot, and I think "award winner/nominee" is meant to be either one not both, to avoid too much explicitness. Plus all the other BIs there have been about the possibly stunt/likely shotgun/privately not Thrilling Love BIs about these two (which I totally believe, this smelled from Day 1). Cumbers has been papping his personal life out like mad for quite awhile now to sell the "Shotgun? Where?!" narrative and get away from looking like the 38 y.o. dupe of a savvy bitch whose life was in the toilet looking for rescue. Clooney/Amal don't really count as "newly married" any longer and the tabs don't care about Redmayne/Bagshawe. I'd go with Cumberbatch/Hunter.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt on that comment about Sophie :) and assume you were being ironic - b/c she was bloody sophisticated enough to get knocked up by Harvey Weinstein's 2014 "It Boy" at 36 and snag herself a life while hers was dwindling. She's been running with Weinstein's crowd for a long time and lived with Conrad Shawcross for two years. Not sophisticated or sly enough? Pull the other one mate.

I know Cumberbatch is on TV here in America and I know he's considered quite talented and he has a female following BUT if this is in America, and I'm assuming it is, Clooney is the only one of these two that would have that much trouble expended to expose him. Cumberbatch may be a bigger deal in England but he's not at that level here.

I'd be very interested to see the pics of the mystery man, even if they don't have any of him with Sophie. If it is one of her former BFs, the bloggers would be able to identify him pretty easily I would imagine. C'mon, paps, let's see the pics! Wonder if BC knows of these secret meetings?

That's very true. If you showed Cumberbatch's photo to 100 people on the street in America, 99 would have no idea who he is. None. (And if it's any consolation, they don't know who Eddie Redmayne is either, and he actually won the Oscar -- no one really cares who wins Oscars, or remembers them, because Oscar is so elitist.) People know and recognize Clooney, Downey, Streep, Hanks, Will Smith, Julia Roberts...not Cumberbatch. He's nowhere near on their level, He's just not that big here. He has his little screechy following on Tumblr and other fan sites, but only the most ardent fans go there and mostly screech among themselves. I was looking through the usual scrum of gossip magazines this past couple of weeks, and there was nothing about him getting married, because who in the USA cares if some British celeb they don't know gets married? I can't imagine paps being actually hired to follow him or Sophie, LOL.
Yes I like this guess. This is a woman who the press would follow closely, and would want to investigate in this way (for multiple reasons). I can imagine the British press getting this lead and going after her.

I would quite easily put my bet on George Clooney. I can claim this for various reasons:
1. Continuous gossip about his sexuality.
2. Multiple GF's (read models), none of them serious.
3. Abrupt wedding to a complete unknown woman.
4. Political aspirations for which he got actually married.
For above reasons I would send paps around to follow him (and her), if I was an editor of the gossip publication.
I'm sorry to say is that Benedict is not popular enough for such following. What Benedict needs is a private detective and a good divorce lawyer. I hope he's got a pre-nup.
OK I won't argue the point - but there's little I wouldn't put past Ms Hunter - if she's shown anything, she's a survivor. As for how "silly" the BI is - at this point, I'm not so sure, re these two but for sure it's not world tragedy. . . .

Not quibbling with both your basic points, but the thing is, Clooney isn't considered "newly married" and a "groom" any longer, and the tabloid interest in the Cumberbatch marriage (agreed IN THE UK and that's what the BI didn't make clear) has ramped up considerably since the engagement and marriage. The man who is the more recent "groom" and an Academy Award winner/nominee is Cumberbatch. And Clooney's name would have been followed by A++. I wonder if Enty left off the usual hint about "foreign born" because it would have been like printing Cumberbatch's name . . . I don't this Clooney is seen as a "newly married groom" any longer.
Clooney's well over just "A" list and you may still think of him as a "groom" but I don't the rest of the public does. Too far our and he's at least A++. And as he married for political purposes and Amal knows this it's likely she'd be much more careful than this.

It's definitely Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter.
Ben has been acting weird lately, since they got together and especially since they got married...he hasn't been comfortable or relaxed at all, so there is something going on behind the scenes. What it is? We don't know yet..and maybe we never will.
However my suspicion is either Benedict is on drugs and the man is the dealer,
or else Benedict is gay and Sophie is a beard for him and the man is Benedict's Boyfriend.
The man is meeting with Sophie not Benedict. It's probably someone like Gambles or WRW, an ex-lover who is getting some of Bendy's money through Sophie. Why would Sophie pay that guy to keep quiet if Bendy already knows that she was a hooker? Simple, Sophie and conman are in cahoots and he could be the kid's real father as per the last Blind Item.
