Daniel Day-Lewis Quits Acting

"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," a rep for the actor said. "He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years."

His rep added, "This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject."

The 60-year-old's acting career has spanned four decades. He won Oscars for best actor for his leading roles in "Lincoln," "My Left Foot" and "There Will Be Blood."

His last film role was in 2012 in Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln." However, he will appear in "Phantom Thread" set to premiere on December 25, 2017.

Big mistake to say that out loud, weird when actors say they will retire. Then they get s movie offer or a role on a tv series and they're back again.

Oh dear. Hope he is not in poor health... one of the best actors of all time imo..
Good on him-be never ascribed to Hollywood BS and I was alway his own man

Back to making shoes?

This is weird, right? He's renowned for his privacy, and he has a film coming out later this year ( probably just finished filming it ). Why does he need to make a statement about not acting anymore?

That's right I had forgotten-he became a cobbler)or studied the artisanship of it in Italy I think?

For a man who did not live the "Hollywood" life it can be done. He can retire on his past millions and never work again. Kudos to him.

He's probably ill and isn't physically capable of acting anymore.

Maybe he earns points on the back end & wants to drive up attendance by making people want to see his grand finale.

He will be missed.

Eh....he's a quirky guy. I can imagine him just being over it. He is known for getting completely into character, and it is probably emotionally and mentally draining. He is very intelligent and probably has many, many interests. I bet he just wants to live life differently now.

He's still relatively young to give it up. I speculated as to the why like the rest so my first thought was illness. I hope that's not the case.

Regardless of talent or legacy, he's approaching an age where the roles will be limited. Probably not much interesting stuff to do. He should really look at TV. A limited or short season of shows on Netflix or HBO would be great for him.

His left foot will always be my right hand's role-model...

I hope he enjoys the rest of his hermit life. ♥

What if he's method acting again? Like, what if he's actually playing a role of an actor who's retiring right now, and they're just about to film?

He's so fascinating. Remember when he actually saw a ghost at his "Hamlet" and then had a nervous breakdown and quit? LOL. ♥
