This A-list hip-hop mogul needed his longtime right hand’s record cleaned up before she could officially step into his growing cannabis empire. A felony drug conviction doesn’t exactly fly with state licensing boards or institutional investors. Instead of reaching out directly to the man in the White House, which wouldn’t be a good look for someone who publicly positions himself as “politically progressive”, the mogul turned to an old friend.

That friend is a billionaire NFL team owner who made headlines not long ago for getting caught at a certain Florida day spa known for offering more than just massages. He also happens to be close with the convicted president who issued the pardon.

Not long after the paperwork came through, the billionaire was surprised with a rare baby-blue Bentley, a gift from the mogul and a few of his closest associates who also co-founded a high-profile justice reform nonprofit.

The media ran it as a heartwarming birthday surprise. But to anyone paying attention, it looked a lot more like a discreet thank you for pulling strings behind the scenes.
