FASHION OR FICTION: DENIM ON DENIM

Isn’t it funny how we’re taught to avoid certain things like the plague, only to be told years later to embrace those same things we were supposed to fear? After all, didn’t that happen with red-wine, coffee, sun exposure…and even drugs?? Okay, maybe ecstasy still hasn’t been proven beneficial, but the point is…rules are made sometimes to be broken…and that’s the case with Denim on Denim.

Only recently has the controversial blend become a popular trend seen on the runaways and red-carpets, alike. Just keep in mind one rule when rocking D on D, keep it light on top, and dark on bottom. If you stick to that rule, maybe, just maybe, it won’t have to be broken.

FASHION: Reese Witherspoon keeps it super casual with a light denim boyfriend top paired with darker jeans, tucked into brown riding boots. The contrast makes the look super chic.

FASHION: Jessica Alba nails the look with a distressed 7 For All Mankind denim jacket paired with black J Brand skinny jeans, the best jeans on the planet, in my opinion!! They may be pricey, but what an investment?!

By the way, I actually bought my own jean jacket just like J-Alba’s from H&M and I’m in love with it! It was $20. What a steal?!?!

FASHION: Here’s another way to rock double-denim. Let’s face it, Alessandra Ambrosio

could wear a potato sack and still look hot but she rocks it out here with a denim vest and itty bitty mini shorts. The same color denim throughout the outfit because it’s broken up with a white T, scarf, belt and other accessories.

Again, at the Gap you can find a killer, shrunken denim vest for less than $50. It’ll take you through every season.

Want to look fashion fabulous in a matter of minutes?? Just add stripes to your wardrobe.
Okay, now I know what you’re thinking, “Don’t horizontal stripes make me look fat??” Not the way we’re showing them. Here are a couple tips on how to rock stripes to make an effortless look, super chic.

Thin Horizontal Stripes: The widening effect is a lot less noticeable with thin, widely spaced stripes as opposed to larger stripes.

Stripes with Low Contrast: Horizontal stripes are less likely to widen you if they’re in colors without a lot of contrast. Instead of high-contrast black and white stripes, for instance, try lower-contrast grey or blue and white stripes.

Strategic Stripe Placement: Try to find a shirt that has horizontal stripes on your torso - but not on your shoulder, this can also work to flatter a your figure.

FASHION: Both British beauties Sienna Miller and Thandie Newton glamorize with stripes at different red-carpet events. They can pull off the wide stripes due to their very thin, boyish figures.If you’re worried about wide stripes creating a wider effect, then opt for these thinner stripes shown for less than $60 at urban outfitters.

Last night’s Grammy Red-Carpet was nothing short of….interesting. While some of music’s brightest Stars lit up the arrival line in gorgeous nudes, black and greens with embellishments, lace, shimmer and sequins, others had me saying, “What the hell are they thinking??”

BEST DRESSED WOMEN:

FERGIE rocks a stunning, electric blue Emilio Pucci mini. Is it just me or do her legs go on for days??
HEIDI KLUM also nails it in Emilio Pucci. This is my favorite look Heidi has ever donned. Yes, it’s a bold statement…but so true.
TAYLOR SWIFT is a winner both on and off stage in this shimmery teal, Kaufman Franco gown. The back is equally as delicious
RIHANNA works it out in a white, embellished, Elie Saab haute couture gown.
LEA MICHELE had last minute wardrobe change to this adorable, feathered Romona Kaveza cocktail dress. Apparently, she was going to wear white but realized it was see-thru just hours before the award show.BEST DRESSED MEN

MAXWELL melts my heart in PradaADAM LAMBERT looks more fashion-forward than ever in his take on a black tux. WORST DRESSED:

KATY PERRY in Zac Posen. I didn’t like this nude-colored, backless gown at all. Katie said she wore it because she was inspired by her trip to India. Not sure if you saw, but she had major side-boob action going on and it wasn’t very attractive.GAGA in this Armani Prive “solar-system” number. Yawn. When someone tries too hard to be different, it has the opposite effect on me. BORING! Subtlety is so much more appealing.IMOGEN HEAP is technologically advanced in her “Twitter dress.” I’m confused…Can’t we just leave twitter to the internet???KENNY G in JEANS?? Call me old fashion, but jeans are never okay at an award showAARON CARTER…lose the hood, dude.
