Gary Collins Drinking And Driving Again - More People Injured

You would think a guy who has killed someone previously after drinking and driving would get it. It being the fact that you have a problem and maybe you can't do anything about your drinking, but you sure as hell can do something about the driving. Call a friend, cab, walk, do anything but drinking and driving. Gary Collins has a warrant out for his arrest after leaving the scene of an accident last night in Mississippi. Because he left the scene he will probably not be charged with his fourth drunk driving arrest in the past ten years. According to police reports, Gary hit a car with his own and injured a woman and her child. When Gary got out of the car, it was obvious he was drunk and the woman said she had called the police. Gary then promptly left. A-hole.

Gary Collins Needs A Lot Of Jail Time

With all the Michael Phelps stuff going on and the Super Bowl you might not have noticed that Gary Collins got arrested for suspicion of DUI again over the weekend. Gary, as you may recall once had his own talk show, co-hosted one and was the host of Miss America for awhile as well. Last year he served four days in jail after an October 2007 arrest for DUI. That was a big one because the driver of the other car was killed in the accident.

The DA never charged Gary with manslaughter in that case because the other driver made an illegal left turn. But let's not kid ourselves, the chances are that person would probably be alive if Gary Collins had not been drinking and driving that night. I'm sorry, but if someone is killed in an accident where I had been drinking, I would be miserable for the rest of my life and sure know I would never drink another drop of alcohol and sure as hell would never drink and drive.

Now, of course, Gary is innocent until proven guilty and those blood test results come back. But if he is convicted of DUI again, I think he needs to spend a very long time in jail, and I am not talking about over in Glendale where he served last time. I want him out of the county and in a real prison with guys who will remind Gary why he doesn't want to be back there again and why he should never drink again. Ever.

Life Gets Worse For Gary Collins

Last Thursday, former talk show host Gary Collins, pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to 96 hours in jail. What should have been the end of the story turned into so much more. The very next day, Warren Gates died. Who is Warren Gates you ask? He is the 89 year old man that Gary Collins crashed into while driving drunk.

Since the accident, Warren Gates has been in the hospital. I hate death, but deaths from DUI are just the worst because they are 100% preventable. Over the weekend here in LA, two studio executives out on a date were killed by a drunk driver who ran a stop light on Sunset and slammed into the couple's car, killing them instantly.

I doubt anyone under the age of 40 even remembers Gary Collins. Even when he was hosting a talk show it seems like he was the forgotten guy. There was Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas and that third guy Gary. It's kind of like that with Jay and Dave, with Jimmy Kimmel playing the part of Gary Collins.

It is a shame that Gary Collins is achieving more fame than he has had for the past 10 years as a result of his stupidity and the death of an innocent.
