Roman Polanski's Attempt To Settle Case Is Denied

A Los Angeles County judge has denied the latest effort by Roman Polanski to resolve his 40-year-old statutory rape case, saying that the filmmaker cannot be sentenced in absentia because he remains a fugitive from justice.

In a written decision handed down Monday, L.A. County Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon said that Polanski’s current motions are based on the same arguments previously presented and rejected by other judges. “No sufficient or compelling basis for reconsideration of these issues … has been presented,” he wrote in the 13-page decision.

Gordon wrote that Polanski’s fugitive status prevents him “from obtaining the relief he desires until he presents himself in the court’s jurisdiction.” The ruling is similar in substance to previous court decisions in which judges have said that Polanski, who fled the United States in 1978 and resides in France, must return to the country in order to pursue his requests.

But on Monday, Gordon agreed to a hearing later this month to consider a controversial piece of testimony that the filmmaker is seeking to unseal.

In recent court filings and at a court hearing in March, Polanski asked to be sentenced in absentia, arguing that he has already exceeded the custody time he was originally required to serve. He also noted that courts in Poland and Switzerland have turned down separate extradition requests by U.S. officials, citing procedural irregularities in the case.

Polanski has offered to return to the United States and appear in court if it agrees to sentence him first.

Roman Polanski Is Trying To Cut A Deal

Roman Polanski's lawyer, Harland Braun, has asked a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge to unseal a transcript of the testimony of the prosecutor in the Polanski case.

Braun believes the secret testimony supports Polanski's claim that he cut a deal to serve only 48 days in jail for raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977.

Polanski, 83, spent 42 days in Chino State Prison and was released. But Judge Laurence Rittenband allegedly reneged on the deal and told prosecutors he decided Polanski should spend up to 50 years in prison. That's when Polanski fled to Europe.

Polanski doesn't want to be a fugitive and wants to be able to travel freely throughout the world. I know the victim wants all of this to be over but I'm wondering why he finally decided to try and settle all of this. I mean he has not wanted to do this in the past 40 years. My guess is money for a project to be filmed in a country where he can't go or he has medical issues and wants to be treated in a country where he can't go.

Roman Polanski Says Equality Between Men & Women Is Idiotic

Roman Polanski, the convicted child rapist who somehow manages to be idolized in several countries of the world was in Cannes debuting his new movie. At the press conference for the movie he said that the birth control pill has made women more manly and more equal and that he finds that idiotic. He continued by saying that the pill has changed the place of women in our times. He would much prefer them subservient and in a kitchen naked for him standing ready whenever he can't find a 13 year old girl to rape.

Roman Polanski Whines In New Documentary

Last night Roman Polanski got a standing ovation at the Zurich Film Festival. It is the same festival he was on his way to attend two years ago when Swiss police arrested him and then held him for 8 months before finally agreeing he could not be extradited to the United States. While under house arrest, Roman found the time to make a documentary about his life and included in that documentary is a discussion of the events surrounding his conviction for having unlawful sex with a minor. He basically says that it was not his fault and he blames the American judicial system for his conviction. The guy pleaded guilty. He said, "I did it." How is that not his fault? He did apologize to the woman he assaulted who was 13 at the time. Think about that. She was 13 years old. How would you like your 13 year old daughter to have sex with an old man and then blame it on her and everyone else but himself. Oh, and you know he was having sex with way more than just this one teen. She is just the only one who had the guts to come forward against a powerful Hollywood director.

Last night Zurich gave Roman a lifetime achievement award. They should be ashamed. Oh, and I saw you Laurence Fishburne clapping louder than anyone else for the guy. Isn't your daughter the one who turned porn star? You were not happy about that. Would you have been happy to let her have sex with Roman when she was 13? Would you be standing up and applauding the guy now?

Jodie Foster Keeps On Loving Mel Gibson

One thing you have to say about Jodie Foster is that if you are her friend, you apparently are her friend for life and she will stick up for you through anything. I think that is pretty admirable, especially in a town where they will throw you to the wolves the second you do anything wrong and then when you make it to the top again, they claim they were with you all along and would never leave you.

I have already talked about Jodie and Mel, so I am not going to rehash that. What I saw though when I was reading the article and which I did not know or slipped my mind is that Jodie just finished shooting a Roman Polanski movie. See, this is the strange thing. I have always thought of Jodie as this powerful feminist who would take no crap from any man and here she is loving a woman beater, anti Semite, and working for a director who raped a child. This does not mesh with the Jodie Foster that she portrays to the world. Although the reporter asked about Mel, no one asked her why she would want to work with Roman Polanski. Maybe I don't have as much respect for Jodie as I thought. It is one thing to be loyal to your friends and another to embrace every bad guy in LA.

Roman Polanski Gun Used In Shooting

When former Playmate Of The Year, Angela Dorian, allegedly shot her husband, she used a gun that was given to her way back in the day by Roman Polanski. According to The National Enquirer, Angela was in Rosemary's Baby and was friends with Polanski and Sharon Tate. After Sharon was killed, Roman gave Angela a gun, and now that gun is what was used in the alleged shooting by Angela. It turns out her husband was friends with Roman too. A 41 year old gun? I'm shocked it worked. Too bad, the girl Roman raped didn't have one.

What Happened To Jodie Foster?

Maybe I just have a bad memory, but I remember Jodie Foster as a champion of the rights of women and how she and Kelly McGillis took the opportunity afforded to them in the movie Accused and used it as their personal soapbox. Apparently that Jodie Foster is gone now and has been replaced by someone who wants to make a buck and does not care who she has to defend or work with.

Earlier this week, and in the past months, Jodie has repeatedly stood up for Mel Gibson and called him a friend and how he always would be a friend and how she believes Mel. It is good to have friends who are loyal, but you also do not want to be blind. Now comes word that Jodie is going to be a lead in the new Roman Polanski movie. Yes, the woman who once made a movie for women who were rape victims will now be working for a rapist of underage girls. See what I mean about a paycheck? Kate Winslet will co-star with Jodie. I wonder if she will being her kids on set for Roman to play with.

Roman Polanski Spends The Weekend Partying In Montreaux

Roman Polanski was spotted in public for the first time since he was released from house arrest. Polanski showed up at the Montreaux Jazz Festival where his wife performed. Earlier in the weekend he gave his first interview where he thanked the millions of people who supported him throughout the time he was forced to spend at his multi-million dollar chalet with only limited staff to help with the chores. He said that he is happy to be free and that his son cut the ankle monitor strap and threw it aside because he hated it so much.
