YouTube And The Grammys

In the old days you would have been forced to sit through the entire Grammy show to get to the good stuff. Now, granted this years there was lots of good stuff, but there was still lots and lots of filler. With TiVo, you don't have to watch commercials, but with YouTube you don't even have to watch the show. You can just watch the performances everyone was talking about at the water cooler (line at Starbucks). The great thing is they are not usually taken down because the performances drive record sales. Here are some of the best from last night.

Alicia Keys and John Mayer

Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban

Amy Winehouse

Foo Fighters and John Paul Jones

Beyonce and Tina Turner

Axl Rose and John Legend

Kanye West

Last but, most certainly not least, Morris Day and The Time with Rihanna

I know I left out some, but the only other one I would probably put in here would be the Alicia Keys/Frank Sinatra performance. Oh, hell, here you go.

But there is no way I will ever put Carrie Underwood on here, so you will have to go do your own digging if you want to watch her performance.

I love love love LOVE Amy Winehouse, but this isnt exactly a good performance for her. She sounds great on her albums; live, not so much...her voice goes from melodic to husky and masculine...the bad kind of husky and masculine....

I HEART Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters.

I thought Alicia Keys was great.

Tina Turner was also great. Can't believe the age she is and still has a good voice.

Beyonce don't care for her. I find her and Jay-z very strange not coming together on shows like these.

I am not a Kenya West fan but liked his performance with Duft Punk.

im thinking Rehab was a poor choice of songs for Amy. you could tell most people felt pretty iffy about it in the audience givin the timing. I'm no Good was..good.

sounded alright.

I could have done without Beyonce joining Tina Turner on stage. Beyonce stepped on Tina too. And what was that crappy outfit and song Beyonce opened with??? WTF????

This was probably the first time Amy Winehouse performed sober in years. She looked somewhat uncomfortable singing sober. I thought she still did well. Kudos to her.

I know Rehab is Amy's "hit single," so to speak, but You Know I'm No Good is an outrageously better song... even more so when they are showcased back-to-back.

Okay, I love Foo Fighters as much as the next person - but as a rock fan, I am tired of them being my entertainment for every awards show. "need a rock band? Get the Foos, they're safe and inoffensive"

MnGddess said...

Ok - was it me or did Amy look a little shell shocked at being sober on stage?

jax said...

mng- i think she was shocked at being sober period. too soon! why in gods' name would you yank someone out of rehab to perform?

Dance monkey dance!

So, Enty, what do you have on Carrie Underwood?

Loved Kanye and Daft Punk. Amy was good, too. Tina Turner is amazing.

Loved Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban. Don't hate on me for it.

Was anyone else disturbed by Alicia
Keys false eye lashes?
They looked like someone glued bats on her eyelids. I kept waiting for them to fall off.

Beyonce isn't good enough to lick the shoes on a picture of Tina Turner. Beyonce cannot sing. Her thighs are far too big to be in shorts/skirt that short and Tina Turner is a frickin' goddess. Even Beyonce's crappy on stage "lookatme!" act couldn't detract from the glorious Ms. Turner.

Carrie Underwood might have had the worst performance of the whole night.
STOMP just made her look like more of a frigid bitch.

I started bawling when Kanye segued into "Hey Mama" and his voice was shaky. I know, he's a cocky jerk, but it was a humbling moment.

The Winehouse is Back!

So is Nelly Furtado pregnant?

My favorite was Cirque du Soleil's routine to the Beatle's Day in the Life. I had no idea that the whole concept was George Harrison's idea.

And Ringo, when George Martin and his son win the award, it doesn't mean you go up there and use up all their time.

I love them, but WHY were Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson there? Did the producers run out of self-absorbed recording artists?

I disagree with the Kanye praise. I thought his voice sounded awful. Not saying anything against his music mind you, thinking more the mixing/sound/miking of him last night. But he didn't sound like himself at all! My kids like his music and didn't think it was him singing!
Tribute song was touching. But the arrogance gets old. As if he's the only person who lost someone last year...

Rare Avis, where are you? What happened at that grammy party?

I liked Amy, the Beatles' thing, and Brad Paisley, but my fave of the night was Keeley Smith and Kid Rock with Dave Koz on the sax. I know Kid messed up the lyrics and their little monolog in the beginning, but I thought they both sang well. Now that was a who'd a thunk it moment for me.

Tina Turner should have performed solo, IMO.

What in the hell was Cher wearing? She's known for her outrageous outfits and I would have thought she could have come up with something shocking for the Grammy's. She looked like Morticia Addams with a huge, red wig.

Dave Grohl - another one of those dirty rockers whose hair I want to wash. Honestly, I think he's an amazing guy. The first Foo Fighters album was entirely him. He played every instrument for every part, with the exception of one small guitar piece. I bet HE has some great stories.

*I want to marry the drummer in the Foo Fighters and have blonde fine-haired smiley babies.

*Cher stole her outfit out of James Brown's coffin.

*Beyonce and Tina standing side by side had the same body, and that should be a wakeup call for B. Tina looks fab for her age, B... notsomuch

*carrie underwood is so boring with her Faith Hill -lite act. zzzzzzzzz

captivagrl said...

many of the performances were outstanding, but....what was that little mess will.i.am. was doing? out in the middle of everyone yakkin/singin about some nonsense.

captivagrl said...

carrie is trying real hard to copy shania twain. she doesn't have the age or experience to pull it off. always better to find your own style.

Jennifer said...

Yeah, just as I suspected. Beyonce still isn't fit to shine Tina's shoes.

That 'Tick' song creeped us allll out. Literally. Surely there is material still out there without resorting to blood sucking camping critters?
Ew.
