Hey Golden Globes Try This - The people over at the Academy Awards are keeping the list of presenters a secret. That's right. They are hoping that people will tune into watch the show, and not the presenters. Hey, what a novel idea. Make the show about the awards and not the people giving them out. So, I'm guessing that means no Jonas Brothers handing out the award for Best Picture.
No One Is Watching - Apparently many of you had better things to do last night other than watch American Idol. The ratings for last night were down 10% from the already low numbers from last year. I mean this is the audition shows. These are the ones which draw even the casual fans because you don't have to commit to the whole season to have fun and watch Ryan do stupid things. This does not portend well for the rest of the season.

I hate awards shows, and the only reason I've ever watched the Oscars was if Owen was presenting or Jon Stewart hosting, but if it spares us hearing about The Brothers Jonii I might tune in just to support this.
I think AI did not do enough promoting for the show for people to know it was on. Most people I know didn't even know. The only way I knew is the morning radio guys were talking about it.
Usually we are soooo inundated with the commercials for it coming back.

I am totally over awards shows. I used to watch for the gowns and fashion faux pas but now I can go on the internet and catch all the highlights. I'm also tired of all the nobodies who have done one movie or had one hit song and act like they are Hollywood royalty.
when they survey the ratings, do they take into account that people have tivo and dvr? i wonder. we dvr and zap through commercials and unwatchable stuff.
svd, nielsen used to just monitor television viewing when it was live, but they worked with tivo to develop software and they monitor households using tivo now, too.

I will always watch the Oscars. I watched the Golden Globes for the first time in YEARS this week, I turned it off after an hour or so.
I actually did watch AI last night and noticed it was a LOT of filler and fluff and not so much of the horrific tryouts of years past. Made me wonder if they are toning down the embarrassment and snark since the unfortunate event in front of Paula's house. Just sayin'.....
I wish more people would have watched Eli Stone instead of that craptastic show.

and more unsettling news - steve jobs is taking a leave until the end of june because his health issues "are more complex than i originally thought".
well today just sucks!
steve fought pancreatic cancer and seemed to have won a couple-5(?) years ago, can't remember when.
it doesn't bode well.
as for stupid AI, all i can say is thank heavens for "house" re-runs on USA channel!
