Scarlett J Forgets Ryan Reynolds

A lot is being made out of the fact that Scarlett J forgot to even acknowledge her husband, Ryan Reynolds, when she was announced as the winner of a Tony award last night. Meh. I'm not the biggest fan of her, but I think she was just so shocked that someone actually gave her an award for something to do with acting that she pretty much forgot everything. I mean she did thank him later, although referring to him by his nationality instead of his name so he probably forgave her. Plus, she did stop half way to the stage, turn back around and kiss him.

One of the things I noticed last night was the Tony Awards seemed to give every award they could to any celebrity who appeared in a play this past year. In the past, winners were generally people that only die hard theatre goers would know. This year with the chance to kiss some serious ass, they gave awards to Scarlett and Denzel and Catherine Zeta Jones. When is the last time any of those three showed up at the Tony Awards? Exactly. It was kind of like watching the MTV Video Music Awards. The message was go act in some play and as long as your name is not Katie Holmes we will give you an award. Just show up and increase our television ratings.

and don't forget Viola Davis got an award too!

As for SJ and RR, just proves it even more that this is nothing but a marriage made in Hollywood since he is her beard and she is his merkin.

Ooops I meant, "she is HIS beard and he is HER merkin"

I don't agree and didn't read it as 'sham marriage' at all. She thanked him at the end of her speech (after recognizing those actually involved with the play) in a cute way that is something they have shared between them (versus publicly). She seemed genuinely surprised to have one. At least she had good reviews, too, unlike Denzel who also won.

Also, ratings were down from last year, not up. (NBA playoffs might have something to do with it, however).

Can anyone tell me why Beyonce and Jay z were there? I was also wondering about all the "stars" getting so much attention and winning, if the real stars of broadway were a bit pissed.

I believe CZJ has a theater background. It is rather shocking that Katie Holmes and her mediocrity was overlooked though.

Jay Z and Beyonce, Will and Jada were there because they are producers and investors of "Fela"

Ryan and Scarlett have to be a real marriage but it's possible that the honeymoon period has waned. So few marriages last these days, you know.

Ryan and Scarlett are bearding for each other.

I agree that they overlooked some seriously good actors to pander to the hollywood set. The biggest slap in the face, in my opinion, was allowing the mediocre talents of Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele to perform, just beause they've had some TV success. Don't get me wrong -- I love Glee. I just don't think those two are what makes Glee such a success, nor do I think their TV status should make them A-list for Broadway. Other than that (and the gratuitous use of the Smiths in the audience), the show was pretty good.

I don't know about Lea Michele, but Matthew Morrison is from Broadway

With Green Day blasting the opening, I just imagined the "older" Tony-watching crowd turning off the TV or heading to the bar at Radio City.

Stunt casting, revivals and the cost of tickets keep me from seeing shows. If I get a free ticket through a corporate connection, sure I'll head over. Otherwise? No thank you.

I don't know how tourists do it. Between the hotel, the cost of tickets and meals? Sheesh.

I watched it last night and she thanked Ryan, calling him "my Canadian". Duh. Look at the damn clip.

I think it is funny that she calls him her Canadian.

CZJ is a Singer and Dancer and got her start doing that. She is very good as a singer and dancer.

Lea Michele starting performing on Broadway as a child. And Like I said before she sang really well last night and I thought she fit in with that group.

This is Viola's SECOND Tony award so I don't believe it was because of her "celebrity" status that she won.

(Former Theater Major Rant)

Lea Michelle performed in "Les Miserable" and was in the original cast (along with Jonathan Groff) of "Spring Awakening" which was one of the hot B-way tickets just 2-3 years ago.

Bringing both her and Matthew Morrison into the Tony's was not pandering to the Hollywood crowd but a shrewd move to get younger audience members into theaters. The theater world has struggled for years with an aging audience base. At one time, going to the theater was the norm for entertainment, but with the rise of TV and films - which are both cheaper and more accessible- people have *forgotten how* to go to the theater. Utilizing the popularity of "Glee" is great way to show younger audience with little theater experience what they could be doing/experiencing.

Yep CZJ started out on West End so her win wasn't a huge surprise.
