Tobacco Companies Are Putting Kitty Litter In Small Cigars To Avoid Taxes

One second I was clicking something about how Anne Hathaway cries herself to sleep every night because no one likes her and the next thing you know I am reading some article on Bloomberg about how tobacco companies are putting kitty litter in small cigars to avoid taxes. I had never heard of a big cigar exemption, but apparently back in 2009 there was some new excise tax enacted which increased taxes 2,653% on cigarettes and small cigars, but if you were a big cigar you got out of paying the tax. How to decide if it was big a cigar? Weigh it. So, tobacco companies started putting kitty litter in the small cigars to make them weigh more and to avoid paying the tax. So, if you are smoking one night and feel the urge to lick yourself or run to a sandbox and pee, now you know why. Or, you could just be drunk.

Not to be a Negative Nancy, but a lot of the chemicals in regular cigarettes are WAY WORSE than kitty litter.

If you believe corporations are people, you gotta at least own up to them being pretty shitty people. Right?

Is that really supposed to read as over 2,000% tax? Or is today's Enty foreign?

@Lucas, ha!

Obviously the cigar lobby had someone walking the halls of Congress when they were crafting this tax bill.

Most folks just cut those cigars right down the middle and throw that tobacco out. They re-fill it with something more organic.

Honey, Fluffy peed on my cigars again. I told you we should have gotten a dog.

It's not a typo. "...the tax on roll-your-own tobacco jumped from $1.10 per pound to $24.78 per pound, a 2,159% increase, while the levy on small cigars (cigarillos) jumped from $1.83 per thousand to $50.33 per thousand, a 2,653% hike."

I just get the urge to take my clothes off when drinking. Getting naked and peeing in sandboxes sounds like a hell of a lot of fun though.

Yes, the tax hike is real. As a cigar smoker, I'm sick of this crap. But hey, all you weed lovers out there, get ready to be doing the same thing once they legalize it. I suspect legal weed is gonna cost more than it does illegally due to the heavy burden on tax on it.
