In case you don't post a comment, and only read the comments, you might not have seen the message that all people posting comments will start seeing today. I wanted to share it with you too.
In the next week, I will be deciding whether to go to a system which will involve the approval of all comments prior to being posted. I do not want to have to resort to this option, but will, and hopefully would only have to do so for a short time before returning to the system that exists now.
Many sites do not allow any comments at all, and that would be a much easier option, but I love and value the comments and won't ever resort to that. If the problem does not resolve itself, then I will just review all the comments before they are posted so that this can continue to be the vibrant community it has always been.

No one deserves to be harassed. What alot of people have said nicely for a long time is that the in jokes such as a2a take over and require alot of scrolling through. When all is calm, maybe think that going offline from here is a place for all that at that endless volume it was - it was every post and stick to more relevant comments here. A community isn't 6 people that take over.
Agreed, yesterday was fuckery but there was a point in there that was valid. Lets hope it doesn't get ignored

Why don't you read alot of the comments here, alot of people that haven't met you find you annoying and are asking for your endless unfunny jokes to be taken away from here. Every post, every day of a2a is boring. You might not care but that's why yesterday happened. So why not have some self awareness and change alittle

Also I agree that readers should not be moderators. An unbiased 3rd party would be ideal. Not a commentor who may get their nose out of joint because someone happens to disagree with them or if the mod has a friend on the site who just can't stand another user.
We're all human and it would be a little too easy to take advantage of the power to delete, especially if there is no accountability.
It's obvious, for example that Dewie feels Count has nothing to offer the blog. Despite the fact that plenty others find him amusing, who is to say Dewie doesn't cut him off at the pass every time he tries to post, as a way of running him off? Or eliminating his contributions?
Even if he is on topic.

In girth (being a bit generous because he wrote my Last Will and Testament). I guess one last comment. I really tune into your blog for escapism. I've enjoyed that you have respect for women and appear to be a really decent person. No offense to any of your other readers, but I really don't want to get lost in everyone's cross talk that isn't about what you posted. I am really not into chat sites, and I would hate for this to devolve into that. (Especially porn, racism, and nonsense that I can make nothing of and has nothing to do with celeb gossip or news of the day). Just my two cents, but it is your site, and you do have the right to say how it goes. Not happy about the things I mentioned, and about the cross talk. Yep..I forget who suggested it but moderators should not be posters. They should be impartial parties. And if anyone out there thought they would be and are upset by this then that should clearly settle it. You're too emotional to be a valid moderator. Again, set clear rules; you break 'em you, get cut off.

These weren't trolls, these were people that knew the site and users and tried to make a valid point in a very bad way.

It's telling that even when this point is made politely to the people doing it they come back with attitude. So it's funny that people are moaning about betch when that was only two days? Yesterday was only one day but as you found it annoying well lets change the whole site. Maybe apologise and think if you want to comment over and over the same thing on every post it will be annoying for the many other users so go off site to do it?

Ok, after wading through an endless assortment of recent comments, I get the impression that what's at the bottom of the CDAN train leaving the tracks this week is Enty accepted money from some people in exchange for a promise or promises he didn't keep and didn't offer a refund. They banded together and flooded the site in angry retaliation this week.
Enty I think you owe your site's visitors an explanation, and those you took money from but failed to deliver the goods an apology and a way to contact you to make arrangements for providing financial restitution.
There's no need to moderate. Just do the right thing.
@Phoenix - that's canopener/kympossible speaking. She is a long time PITA on the site, and what she is referring to was years ago. That has nothing to do with the rebellion besides it possibly being an opportunity to join in on the crazy.

PITA = pain in the ass. I wish I could tell you, but I'm at a loss myself, and I don't understand the people that say it was an obvious point. All I know is that the raging throng has gone off the rails in recent week/s with childish nonsense. It's been like reading a transcript from Beavis & Butthead (huh huh, he said ass), but without the actual wit. Next thing I know, people started coming up newly minted profiles with disgusting usernames with the sole purpose of flooding the site and posting inflammatory and accusatory bullshit about enty and some long time readers/commenters, who have responded as themselves not anonymously. I have been accused of being the same person as other people, people have spoken up asking people to stop the porno, but are called bitches and harpies in response. It's anarchy, and I know I'd just like the nice, civil blog back that I've come to know and love.

So basically, it sounds like there are two groups of what I'll call hard core commenters, meaning those most active on the site, who for varying reasons, don't like and/or approve of each other.
If that's about the gist of it, I guess moderation is the only option, but I hope it's limited to just inflammatory comments obviously intended to demean and insult another commenter for personal reasons, rather than impinging on anyone's right to free speech.

Agree!! Many of us have been putting up with occasional racist/bigoted comments, TONS of OT posts, cliquey love fests, etc. for quite a while now, but suddenly Enty is going to start censoring because his fangirls and boys were the victims rather than the perpetrators!
I've been reading since 2006 like many others, but certainly don't need to jockey for positon by declaring myself an "old timer," or expect preferential treatment because of it.
@Bacon Ranch, curious about your idea that a profile set to private must be a mistake? I keep mine that way because all I care about is the ability to log in, and wouldn't even bother with a profile page except that Goggle requires one. I'm very leery of Google's online tracking and intrusiveness, and won't even open a Facebook or Twitter account for the same reason.

@bacon ranch - my profile was limited (I don't put my private info online anywhere) but viewable until 2 days ago when people stated attacking me by name. I don't post often because when I do it's usually ignored, maybe because it's usually sensible or correcting someone's misinformation campaign. yes, I'm a chick, people assume what they want. I've stayed out of the fray because I didn't want to be in it. Again I'll say I don't speak for anyone, nor do they speak for me. I'm perfectly capable of expressing myself when I want to, and choosing when that is.
@Phoenix - that seems to be it, altho there may be three, I really don't know. I don't think Enty would censor opinions, he never has which is what has made the site what it is, but the bullshit of the last days is unwelcome, as evidenced buy the majority of the comments from long timers that have come out of the woodwork on this thread.

I, like other posters, have been a reader since 2006; however, unlike some of them, I do NOT feel that this makes me some kind of VIP on the site. We are all people who read an entertainment gossip blog. Jeez.

I was accusing people of being trolls because their profiles, when visible, were created in May 2013, had never posted before and were trolling with vicious, pornographic and offensive comments.
I have no idea who the hijackers were when I commented about it, I barely read the comments anymore because I find them ridiculous and a waste of time. I remember quite specifically a thread that went off on tangent of women's biological functions, etc. When I was told that I was wrong about this not being the forum and that anything goes I posted some story about being raped as a child and having 10 abortions that made everyone crazy. For a short time I thought my point was made, but it was short lived.
Jax is Jax, she comes and goes in spurts, says her piece and moves on. She'll probably tell me I have no right speaking for her.
I have never emailed Enty anything except a Reader photo (oh geez, that would have outed me as a girl, wouldn't it?).

No one I know contacted Enty asking for moderation, either now or when the comments started going OT about way too personal personal lives. Enty is also grown up enough to make his own decisions. As I said earlier (in a comment that was glossed over as usual), the random OT commenters defend themselves by saying that if Enty didn't approve of their comments he would delete them (he doesn't delete anyone or anything), but I guess this is his way of dealing with a situation that he finally feels got out of hand.

can CDAN please just go back to a forum to read gossip items and maybe comment and guess about them as simple escapism .. or has it totally been hijacked by some bi-polar nuts who have no other outlet for their personal problems? reaching out to strangers on a gossip blog for "support" ... go someplace where you can get the help you need and let people who want to read lighthearted, non-hard news (i.e. gossip) items and "discuss" do so without all the drama

I thought it was funny, mainly because I'd recently seen the movie _Cabin In The Woods_ and a lot of the crazy activity on Friday kinda reminded me of that movie's twist toward the end. I also assumed that it was easier to ignore most of the additional noise, after the novelty of the joke wore off. Which it did.

I, too, am fine with moderation, BR, and again, I think Enty will be making the decisions. I don't think the OT people have anything to worry about, but the trolling flooders do. I suggest that any of you that fear moderation re-evaluate your activity to see what you are doing that you think wouldn't make the cut and then moderate yourselves.

Lutefisk - I can tell you that the reason you were so quickly outed as Affleck 7, then Affleck, was because all you did was change your profile name, instead of creating a brand new profile and email address.
When you posted as Affleck 7, all we had to do was click on your name, and your profile came up - showing your profile number at the very top, and that you had been a member since I think 2007.
As soon as we pointed this out to you, you immediately deleted your comment, not realizing that your name still showed up and that anyone who had subscribed to the post, received the emails.
Same thing with the Affleck profile yesterday.
So at the end of the day, you're really not as smart as you think you are.

I'm going to "re-post" something that I wrote as a response to another poster (quite late) on Friday when it all started, as it is relevant to this topic. Albeit it will be out of context, as I'm not going to copy and paste the entire conversation (in context here); my stance on this topic ("trolls," "regulars," "newbies," "CDaN comment section rules,"etc) will still be clear. I might be too late to this "conversation" as this blog post was posted yesterday, but so be it. Here's my two cents (put in quotation marks):
"I understand where you're coming from. That said, there are "regular posters" who "come in here and post rude or just plain random comments that have no purpose other than to anger and annoy other posters," e.g. "Count Jerkula." And evidently, CDaN is indeed full of people who appreciate their/that particular brand of humor, and incidentally, most of those people are "the regulars."
And again, to use "Count Jerkula" as an example, this is a "regular poster" who "comes in here and insult and degrade or offend people." And what did that poster gain by doing this? A large group of "CDaN fans" - "Libby" being one of them.
See, that's why I have a problem with this whole "get the newbie trolls out of here" attitude that I've been witnessing today. Because logically, I'm not a fan of hypocrisy, double standards and inconsistency.
For several days in a row, every comment section was riddled with comments like "ass2ass," "betch," "(.)(.)" and numerous porn references - often completely irrelevant to the actual topic of discussion. A lot of people found this highly annoying, some found it provocative, irritating, frustrating - and offensive. But, when some of those people dared to voice their frustration over this, they were shot down in a very disrespectful and condescending manner. They were even asked to leave, find another gossip site, if they resented this behavior so much.
"Liddy" was one of the people who did this, if not the only one who told the frustrated posters to leave. Now, however, that other posters have decided to more or less mock this behavior by doing an "extreme version" of the same thing, "Liddy" would have none of it - and even went as far as to contact Ent. so he would "handle the situation." That, to me, is something that does not come off as very rational. Granted, I do not think it was even remotely okay for one of the "newbie trolls" to "threaten" her - that was crossing the line and taking it too far.
That said, one of the few differences between "the regulars" spamming the comment sections with their "ass2ass, betch" comments and the "newbies" spamming the comment sections with their "graphic nonsense" - is which "clique" they belong to. Because at the moment, there are different rules for different "cliques," and that is certainly not fair.
Although it's neither hard to explain nor understand, how there became a type of "CDaN hierarchy" from a psychological perspective, I personally don't care. I don't care about how long you've been here, how many cyber friends you've got through the years, how "CDaN popular" you are - you are not more "special" or more entitled than any other poster on this site. If there are rules to be made, then those rules are for everybody.

Not that anyone gives a toss what I have to say because I'm supposed to be a racist, but the long time readers are NOT part of Enty's "inner circle" and we find it mind boggling why you think we are. Rickatoo and myself were shouted out on the radio show because we were probably the first names he saw posting on the FB page that day. Not because we are SPECIAL. The leaps your imaginations take you is unbelievable making your sanity highly questionable. Are you that jealous and insecure? I get annoyed when the same people post 20 different air headed things on the same thread but that is what the blog has become it appears and although many including myself have tried to change the tide we have failed, we admit it.
I have never worried about fitting in so maybe when I sense I am in a group of weak minded folks it brings out the worst in me because it's a trait I HATE. Weakness is what I hate. In the past, new commenters weren't excluded if they hung around long enough to show their true selves, as someone else pointed out, CDAN Reader perhaps? Who BTW I seem to find myself agreeing with on MOST things but have no clue who this is. Back then, I rarely posted because I could never say what someone else had done better.

That's why they don't comment anymore. They feel they were run off and don't want to be bothered by being attacked by having a differing opinion. We would never dream to troll the blog, nor would many of us have the time to be honest. We have to work you see. Again, the leaps of the imagination is bizarre.
We have a pretty good idea who is behind the flooding and we suspect another group joined in since they found the opportunity to tag along. Personally, I found many of the professional trolls more entertaining than the new regulars. Maybe they might stick around?
So long as there are ass kissers and egos needing to be fed, there will never be an impartial moderator.
New people who make a comment that goes against the tide have been "chastised" until they conform. This is mob mentality, and it does exist here. The only true solution is to ignore select comments that oppose your own and for all to be civil, even when agreeing to disagree.
What most are demanding is impossible task to accomplish, because it is human nature to gravitate to like minded/similar types.

To me, there are some unwritten rules on this site. Making fun of and being mean to celebrities? Totally fair, that’s what we’re here for. Making fun of and being mean to your fellow commenters? Party Foul. Not what we’re here for.
I have never interacted in a negative way with anyone on this site. I pop in to say something funny, or I guess blinds, and I’m almost always right ;) There was always a wonderful sense of community here, but lately I’ve noticed an increase in commenters coming in, not to comment on the story, but to jump all over someone else’s comment (it’s not funny enough, it’s wrong, it’s off topic, etc.). I’ve felt some of that negative energy directed my way, so I’ve started coming here a lot less. I may pop in from time to time to guess a blind, but the rest of the time I’ll be hanging with Michael K at D Listed. Thank you to everyone who has made commenting such an enjoyable experience. Please make your fellow commenters feel welcome here. Don’t forget, you came here to throw shade at the celebs, not at eachother :)

He lately has posted about Farrah Abraham, a D-list celeb from MTv Teen Moms who’s now resorted to the abyss of X-rated vids to keep herself in the limelight. She is not famous b/c she’s a porn star; she was well-known for her Mtv exposure. That’s why she’s warranted a few posts. As she descends further into the porn world (likely at this point), you will probably see less coverage of her, both here and in the MSM. My point being: CDAN isn’t posting about porn people, this isn’t a porn-related site. The CELEBRITIES covered here sometimes descend and resort to that level (Lohan, Bynes etc), but as a rule the X-rated world isn’t the subject of this blog.
(It may also be worth noting that as Enty supposedly had past connections to MTv, he’s been partial to posting about folks from that channel. Including stupid ones who end up in porn.)
In the past the blog has occasionally covered the likes of Jenna Jameson, when she’s been arrested etc, but she’s a rare example of a well known porn queen w/some level of fame outside of that business. I think that the Friday posters made some valid points and I would love to know the backstory that started everything! This will most likely be a long, some might even say lengthy, post, as I intend to give you a proper response.
You left out "offend." You should click on the link I added, to read my post in context; that way you'll be able to see and fully understand exactly why that's relevant.
Also, you may feel that insulting and degrading a specific group of people is justifiable because of their celebrity status, but that is not necessarily true. I understand your thought-process, as it's a quite common attitude amongst people, but fact of the matter is; celebrities are people as well. Which means; they are just as easily affected by other people hurling abuse at them as everyone else. And personally, I don't think being a celebrity alone is enough to deserve verbal or emotional abuse, or blatant disrespect.
When I criticize someone, especially in a public forum, I try to stay objective and constructive - regardless of their status. If I choose not to be as filtered, it's usually because the person in question either has been caught doing something undoubtedly indefensible and immoral; or has the characteristics of a specific group of personality disorders, i.e. has an innate inclination to do such things. Meaning; the person behaved in a way that made them undeserving of my respect.
Discussing celebrities is, obviously, not a problem for me. They wouldn't have the status, money or job that they have, had they not been discussed, i.e. gotten attention, by the people. It's a part of their job to get scrutinized, and as long as they weren't pushed into it (by their parents when they were kids, accidentally famous, famous by association, etc), they knew exactly what they signed up for - some even crave it.
The histrionics (no pun intended) and clinical narcissists who crave and seek attention, regardless of its nature (negative/positive), will only thrive on comments such as yours; because at least you're talking about them. And although the prevalence of such personality disorders are without a doubt much higher in the entertainment business than most other places, not all celebrities fall into or belong to that group. And that is something I think should be taken into consideration, when one decides to write a comment about someone, whether they're famous or not, in a public forum.
With that in mind, the sole incentive you seem to need to start degrading a so-called celebrity, is the celebrity being female. And when you start degrading someone mostly because of their sex (no pun intended here either), it becomes sexist and inherently chauvinistic, and by that; inadvertently degrading to other people of the same sex.

A comedic genius can make just about anything funny, and I mean anything; and although I have found a few of your (less degrading, insulting and offensive) comments witty - and I mean no offense when I say this - you are no comedic genius. Of course, that is my opinion, as humor is very subjective. I'm sure you are or may be perceived as such, by the group of people who are actually amused by your comments. Make no mistake, I can find humor in most things, trust me one that, and I love crude jokes - as long as they're clever.
That said, although you are no idiot, I don't find anything clever or particularly funny about a grown man soon to be in his forties, seemingly turning almost every topic involving a woman into something sexual; flat out describing in graphic detail his sexual desires and fantasies (or just general sexual situations), while simultaneously referring to his/the objects of desire as "whores" - especially when it's directed at girls in their early teens (e.g., Elle Fanning). Nor do I usually find jokes at the expense of vulnerable people (such as the mentally ill, troubled kids, etc), or blatantly racist jokes very amusing.

This analogy indicates a complete lack of boundaries, there is no line that cannot be crossed; which is often the characteristic of a so-called troll. Hence me assuming you were one.
That was of course until I saw all the applause your comments got. I was genuinely shocked when I saw a specific group of people not only applauding, but encouraging your behavior. And, although I would usually scroll past your posts, as I saw more of your comments made in the same fashion, some as bad, some worse (although it's quite hard to top making a joke out of trafficking, and inadvertently rape), I was disturbed by how many "fans" of yours who would pop up, eagerly cheering you on. It was almost as, if not just as, disturbing as all those girls on Twitter proclaiming how they would love for Chris Brown to beat them.
Your modus operandi is very similar to that of a so-called troll, and the only difference I see between you and a troll, is that you actually managed to get a group of followers. Most trolls either get hated by nearly everyone, or get other trolls to join in on the trolling. You've been quite lucky with your audience, that's for sure. Good for you, because you might not be a comedic genius in my eyes, but you may be a trolling one. That is, a genius at trolling - or just really lucky. Maybe both. And if you are a troll, which I believe that you are, you will almost certainly take that as a compliment (heck, it might even be an accomplishment). It wasn't, just stating probabilities.
There have been several times, where your behavior has been so antisocial, that I honestly started thinking you might be. Of course, you may say that this is just a persona you put on online, that this is not who you are in real life. But, fact of the matter is; this is a part of real life. You are a real person, making real comments, about real people, on a real place, that other real people can read - including the real people you have decided that it's okay to insult and degrade. You may not identify with your alter ego, but the fact that your brain made it up in the first place, makes it a part of your personality.

That said, I do not believe you're antisocial. Surprisingly, your general behavior does indicate that you are a person with the ability to empathize, and the ability to feel both shame and guilt. I do, however, (and you definitely won't like me saying this) believe that you have seen and experienced some very dark, disturbing things in your life, which seems to have left you desensitized. Which might be why things talked about on a gossip blog about celebrities, isn't something you feel like taking seriously at all - most don't, so why should you? And it may also explain why you feel little to no compassion for celebrities, especially those doing foolish things, and why you seem to refuse to recognize, acknowledge and/or respect their humanity. I might be wrong, though, and honestly, I don't care either way. And I've seen you proclaim over and over again to other posters who have criticized you, that neither do you. Good, at least we're on the same page on something.
But, let one thing clear; there are a lot of people out there who have experienced just as dark or darker things than you, that goes for everybody, but that does not necessarily mean they will end up as twisted individuals and/or stop caring about the consequences of their actions. Or stop caring full stop. There are things you've said that I find inexcusable, explainable, but inexcusable. I don't think that there are any lines you are not willing to cross in the name of "having a sense of humor" or "just having some innocent fun." If there are, then they are few and far between.
Also, "on topic" does not mean choosing a part of the matter in hand, and then going off on a tangent. E.g., the topic being "Katy Perry's getting divorced," and then start talking about how you would like to rub your penis between Katy Perry's breasts. Just because you mentioned Katy Perry, does not mean that what you said is on topic, nor does it mean that it's relevant.
Lastly, I'm sure you, in all probability, will continue on commenting without any changes made in your style. That's your right, so you do that. I genuinely don't care. I will just scroll past it like I usually do, which is a brilliantly effective way of ignoring something on the internet. Fortunately, that's actually one of the few things where we think alike. Don't like it; scroll past it - most of the time.

What in the world happened?
Whatever the trolls were trying to accomplish on Friday has gone too far. It is neither cool nor funny to post real names of people, nor is it cool or funny to stalk them to find those names. It is particularly uncool and unfunny to repost them after someone deleted them.
The people that many of you are accusing of being behind the flooding on Friday are not the guilty ones. Most of those people have virtually stopped commenting because of their disdain for the betch and A2A that's been going on for too long. Look around, who is a regular, who hasn't shown up for the past few days. Those will be your trolls.
I've been hanging out here for 6 years. Do I think I'm better than a new person? No. I do think I'm better than the constant off-topic, sexual, female-degrading comments that seem to be the norm these days. What do the new people want? To be noticed? To have a party thrown for them? Most of the time nobody responds to my posts either. I don't care. Hang out long enough, post now and then, and you'll be one of the gang, if that's important to you. It isn't to me.
What is important is being treated with respect, and not to have someone searching to find my real name so they can post it on here and get a laugh. I'm too old and sick to find that funny.
