I'm pretty sure Billy Crudup was an autonomous adult at the time. People can't be stolen without permission.
Of course it was his fault because he was in a committed relationship, but also there are boundaries that a woman should not cross. Like getting involved with a guy in a committed relationship. She deserved all the bad karma she got
It's also very possible that he's the one who pursued her. Maybe he wasn't interested in being a daddy at all, and found the closest other option to get out of it?
