This former A- list talk show host was just along for the ride as cover so that this foreign born A list celebrity could spend some time with her girlfriend and make it look like a girls weekend. I always find it fascinating that the celebrity makes such a big deal of new boyfriends or engagements but we never see the fallout, just the new guys again and again while actually being with the same woman for a very long time.

That's simply not true - Navratilova has complained for decades that there is limited (if any) endorsement possibilities for top female athletes if they are lesbian. It was true in her case, it was true for Mauresmo, for Conchita Martinez, and for many others. Sharapova's loooks might make it a little easier for her, but if youu don't think lesbian athletes struggle to get endorsement money, you're not paying attention to female sports.
