Well, if you look at Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj, you realize that Gaga has nowhere else to go than drag. I think she looks good as a dude...and as far as I'm concerned, with a voice like that, she can dress however the hell she wants!

I get the impression that Gaga is moving in another direction. With Katy, Rihanna and Nicki being so out there, she had to find another way to present herself and still get attention. Doing the transgendered thing seems logical. She does wear it well. And being one of a few pop singers that can actually sing, I cut Gaga some slack. She seems self-aware and pretty smart.
The Jersey Shore women went crazy with the plastic surgery, they all look like they went "Hollywood" with their faces.
Sorry but that Gaga drag skit was painful to watch, it fell flat on its face and lacked whatever she was going for.
Man, you know the fashion at an award show bottoms out when Miley Cyrus has one of the better, more sophisticated looks on the red carpet. (And she only looks okay.)
I thought the whole GaGa thing was very "meh" and I consider myself a fan of hers. All these women just need to study Adele as far as I'm concerned. True talent doesn't have to call attention to itself with ridiculous gimicks. Adele just sings great songs, beautifully.

I like Adele a lot, but we only need one of her. Music, and life in general, is better when there are different POVs. Imagine if all of us here had the same mindset. How drab that would be!

Adele was amazing! I thought Beyonce's performance was cute & loved Jay & Kanye doing Otis.
Lady Gaga's voice was amazing, but the Jo Calderone thing is awkard & really fell flat. She seemed like she was trying to hard.
But without a doubt, the worst performance was Chris Brown. It was awful, which he totally deserves. I've seen people commenting it was good...wtf were you watching??? Must be the "Team Breezy" fanatics bc when you lip sync worse than Britney, you know it is bad.
And Lil Wayne needs to lay off the autotune as well.

I must be the only crazy one here, I saw Lady Gaga at lollapalooza last year and she was TERRIBLE!! I was all excited to hear her the show was stupid, singing lousy. She did more whining/talking then singing(and she wasn't hoarse). I ended up leaving...but you guys are right she has nowhere else to go, but to get in drag.
Its so many celebrities I wish would disappear....off topic DWTS is gonna be lousy too...

Justin bought a snake with him to the VMA's. He said the snake stretches out to about 4 feet long. That's about the same size as he is standing up.
I'll bet when Britney saw Justin's snake she laughed and hauled out her phone where she showed him this picture:

I like the oriental Katy Perry better than the cube-on-head version i saw elsewhere.
If Nicki Minaj were as special as she thinks she is, she wouldn't need such a tacky-odd outfit to draw attention to herself.
Miley looks really good. Her makeup is natural, her hair is subdued, and her outfit is classy. I can only hope this is a sign that she's growing up and getting serious about her career (Wishful thinking, but one can hope...)
The top part of Selena's outfit is nice, but I'm not a fan of the mullet skirts. They just look odd.

Joe does look a little like Josh Peck. I didn't see the show, so I don't know how the ensemble worked in context.

I will say that I thought "Jo Calderone" was Adam Goldberg's clone. Also, that whole thing fell flat. Watching everyone look at her and squirming with uncomfortableness...Bizarre....boring, AWKWARD!
I guess I'm the only one who liked Gaga's performance.
I liked the idea of Gaga's performance, she just didn't execute it well, and she didn't stay consistent with it. She started her speech as 'Joe' then said I instead of she more than once so that killed the bit. Her bit with Britney wasn't too bad, but that whole moment was ruined when Britney suddenly started to introduce Beyonce. Huh?
I also thought of Annie Lennox doing Elvis on the Grammys years ago. It was brilliant, the smirk on her face was priceless.
The VMA's are such a joke in general, last night's show was a horrible mess. Only Bruno Mars, Adele, and Beyonce saved it.
...the best thing about Gaga's performance was the cut to Dave Grohl having an orgasm over Brian May.

While I think Gaga's 'Joe' persona was awkward and flat at times, I really appreciated what I believe her message (what her message has always) been about. This is what I wrote on my facebook after watching it last night:
"Lady Gaga was in her male character at the MTV Awards show. I've been reading up on the sociology of Gender for my new class and I was pretty impressed by the persistent in-you-face masculine role she donned. Gender is something YOU DO, not something YOU ARE. It is only when we stop policing gender boundries and become aware of how truly interchangable the mask of femininity and masculinity are that we will free ourselves. Thank's Gaga, for sharing a bit of this with the Jersey Shore generation~
btw- I thought Chris Brown's performance also sucked (and was so happy it did too!) I thought his lip syncing was horrible!
And the only good thing about the performance that Beyonce basically yodeled and phoned in was the end when she rubbed her belly and announced her pregancy and Jay-Z's and Kanye's over the top awesome proud jubilant reactions. I HATE when someone is so well known that they can just phone it in or do a mediocore job (like last night) and people still stand up and applaude or say how amazing they were. ugh.
Everything Gaga ever does is for attention. It's more about "look at me - I'm ORIGINAL!" than any type of message.
It's funny how gay men can do drag and people LOVE it, but a woman doing drag is just not as interesting.

The dresses on most were terrible. Beyonce- I am happy for her. And I think Jay-Z is adorable.
Unfortunately, Monica--there is nothing new with Lady Gaga. She has blatantly stolen ideas from forerunners like Grace Jones, Madonna and now Annie Lennox. What is really sad is someone with a huge talent like Adele will be ignored because she doesn't get half naked or don a meat dress and lip sync badly while chewing gum with her red weave waving in the fan induced wind while making out with one of her back up dancers while calling her fans a catchy moniker.
Audrey: Adele does just fine with critics and sales.
Gaga's Joe persona reminds me of Garth Brooke's Chris Gaines phase. Embarassing.
Lady GooGoo has no charisma. Whatever "it" is-she doesn't have it. That's why she is so painful to watch. Annie Lennox and Madonna (to some extent) have done the "I'm a man" thing with better results.
Wonder why Madonna did not present Brit Brit with her award.
