The Story Of Auntie Em
It is so easy to forget the movie stars of the past or actors that made roles memorable. One of those was Auntie Em in The Wizard Of Oz. You probably don't remember the name of the actress who played Auntie Em, but everyone knows who Auntie Em is. A reader sent in a link to this blog called the Antebellum Blog and because April 15 is the anniversary of the suicide of Auntie Em, they wrote about her and her career and even what she did when she decided to kill herself on Palm Sunday back in 1962. Apparently she was in a lot of pain through the last several years of her life but didn't want everyone to know that she was taking medicines for it all so the previous week had thrown them all away in anticipation of committing suicide. It is a remarkable story about the actress and also the note that her remains are about ten feet from the man who played her husband in Wizard Of Oz. (Thanks Karen)

sorry she died in so much pain, but glad she died by her choice in her own home surrounded by her things and not in some home.

That is exactly how my husband's grandmother committed suicide. On April fools day, no less.
I have to respect that. My mom, bless her heart, wanted to live so badly. She'd never end her life that way, but I would. Luckily I live in a "Right to Die" state, and I can tell you, if I get lung cancer, I will end my life before it ends me. I never, ever want to see anyone suffer like my mom did.
Sad story. Crazy that her tomb is so close to her former co-stars?? What are the odds?
