Randy Travis Arrested Again

Randy Travis is turning into the country version of DMX, except for the fact that I don't think randy Travis abuses his dogs. He does drink a lot though. And drive at the same time, which used to be fine in Texas. Back in the day in Texas they had drive thru liquor stores and there was no prohibition against drinking and driving at the same time. Like sipping from your bottle or glass and driving. Now though, times have changed, and Randy was charged with a DUI after crashing into a tree. He was also charged with talking smack to the policeman who arrested him. Probably some version of don't you know who I am? Earlier this year, Randy was arrested outside a church for being hammered. Is he still with that woman that was married while Randy was married and they hooked up?

Hey Enty, we still have drive thru liquor stores.

It's really clear how much his ex-wife manager must have managed his dysfunction. This is so sad.

RenoBlondee said...

And people think he is so down to earth and "normal".

Frufra said...

Not liquor stores, FSP! Beer and wine, yes. Hard liquor, no. Get it straight, dude :-).

(Unless you know something I don't, which is entirely possible. I've only driven through a beer barn, not a liquor barn.)

Whenever we drive to the beach, we drive through Marshville (smalltown NC) - whose claim to fame is that they are the "Home of Randy Travis." It is printed on huge signs entering and leaving the town.

I wonder if the Bible beaters will be up in arms over all of this and try to get the signage removed?

Ohio has drive-thru liquor stores. I haven't been to one in years but I'm pretty sure they're still selling more than just beer & wine.

Frufra said...

Ooh, and my mom grew up with his cousins out in rural East Texas. His real last name is Trawick. And coming from out there, any and all dysfunctions are possible and expected. But Randy has a great voice, and is apparently troubled. Which is sad, of course.

libby said...

I don't know if he's a songwriter too, but Randy Travis has such a natural gift in his amazing voice. This is such a shame.

And I agree with the above poster--his ex-wife/manager must've worked tirelessly to shield this from the public. I remember a LONG time ago (15+ years), he said in an interview that his wife (also named Libby, btw) made ALL his food, because he has severe food allergies.

Drive thru booze stores? I can't even get a drive thru starbucks in my town!

Frufra said...

Well, just read his IMDB, and now I doubt my mom's story that he's kin to the Traywicks she knew. Huh. Maybe that was just small-town gossip.

shauniebear said...

I drunkenly threw up on the sign in his hometown of Marshville, NC that said how fabulous he was :)

jessie said...

we have drive thru liquor stores here in MD and DC..but they have signs posted that say they will not give out cups.

Already have one said...

Yes! They just opened one by my work. I may stop one of these days and see what all the fuss is about. They still have them in Louisiana. The drinking age was 18 there when I was in high school so we would just go across the river. Good times.

ljsmed said...

We have drive-thru liquor stores, beer, wine, liquor, all of it.

Amy in MI said...

Maybe he's kin to Britney Spears hubby to be?

And we have drive thru liquor stores in Michigan. They're grandfathered in

lostathome said...

They have drive thru liquor stores all over the place here. He has a beautiful voice, shame he can't control his personal demons.

Hammer_Girl said...

They have them here in FL. I remember going through and having someone over 21 buy Crown for us. They even sold drinks by the cup already mixed. And they have their own special mixes you can buy by the gallon.

OT---I was in a McDonald's drive thru yesterday (don't judge;I'm disgusting and I know it)--and the DT window had a cheap plastic clock velcro'ed on the OUTSIDE of the window. It made me laugh, because when a customer's waiting, they ALWAYS exaggerate the time they've been waiting.
Somebody at McD's got FED UP enough to buy a clock and velcro. ha!

Randy is talented and it seems like he has a problem that he needs to deal with. Where are the positive people in his life? I hope they are at least trying with him.

lolaluvs2snack said...

I hadn't seen a drive thru liquor store in at least a decade. I thought they got rid of all of em. Maybe just the ones in Chicago. lol

theinternetbully said...

who is this guy? randy who? I'm not shocked. tired of these country singers who break the law. they should all be locked up the music is crap* (every white person responding to a rap arrest)

Jesse D said...

In LA they still have drive-thru daiquiri shops. I still remember buying a gallon on our way to New Orleans and already having a buzz when we got there. Hey, drinks ain't cheap in N.O.! I wasn't driving, though. Shame on you, RT!

Uh oh. TMZ just reported that Randy was stark naked when they found him! WTF gets into a car naked?

Anothergrayhare said...

After some 19 year old drunk got on Hwy 427 in Toronto going the wrong way this weekend, hit a car head on and killed a 49 year old father, his 16 year old daughter, and critically injured the wife, I have NO sympathy for drinking drivers. Yes we all did it, but wow, how lucky we all were. Never again. Drive through liquor stores, seriously?

cheesegrater15 said...

He wasn't talking smack. He was threatening to kill them.

Anothergrayhare said...

Just saw the mugshots on TMZ, what a difference 6 months makes. Sad, I love his voice.

goheels83 said...

Oh man. That mugshot is sad. :(

Surely there is a witty way to tie in one of Randy's songs to this sad situation - he is a country singer, after all. This is their bread and butter. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking about one called "Better Class of Losers", but I'll have to ruminate on it a while.

I can't help but think that a nude arrest might cement his place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. And this is coming from a huge classic country fan, by the way. See David Allen Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name", last verse, specifically, for more details.

califblondy said...

I thought the secret Libby kept was that Randy is Gay??

There is no excuse on earth for drinking and driving.

yodelay said...

Drive thru liquor stores? I'm from California, so this blows my mind.

Frufra said...

@calif - that's what I always heard, too.

NatelyRenee said...

Enty, DMX is a lost soul but he is actually a really kind person...and he certainly does not abuse his dogs. He has love for them...he is not a Michael Vick... I know for a fact. Just had to say somethin about the homie, X. He may be lost as hell but he has always had a kind spirit. He doesn't want to hurt anyone...he'd hurt himself first.

Moonmaid said...

Yes, we have drive through liquor stores in Texas. Not much worse than the gas stations in NY that have huge tubs of single tall boy beers on ice by the cash register. Well of course we have those too. My best image of Randy Travis is his reaction to Adam Lambert's version of "Ring of Fire" on American Idol. He was totally mystified and nearly speechless, lol.

NatelyRenee said...

We do have drive thru liquor/mini marts.... but damn, the people are dumb if they drink and drive. the point is to get your booze in your pj's and go home!! lol

Sylvia said...

It's sad that for a man having such a great voice he ends up this way.

Moonmaid said...

OMG, the mug shot is not to be believed. Lucky he didn't kill someone! Apparently he tried, hence the black eye. You don't threaten cops in the Great State of Texas: http://www.tmz.com/2012/08/08/randy-travis-threatened-to-shoot-kill-kill-troopers-mug-shot-black-eye-dwi-arrest/

mikey said...

Damn, drive through liquor stores? In NJ they don't even sell wine in the grocery store. I'm always amazed when I travel that I can go to WalMart and get wine with my sunscreen.

I thought he was gay and that was the big secret.

Unknown said...

Enty left out the most important part of this story in his post....which is that, when arrested, Travis was BUCK NEKKID behind the wheel. WTF?

alliwholovessomuch said...

I'm amazed not everyone has drive thru's...yeah don't drink and drive, get ur grog and get to where ya going :)

joymama said...

TX still has party barns. Drive into the barn and order up singles to kegs, wine and mixed drink canned beverages, no alcohol though.

Pogue Mahone said...

What would you expect from a redneck like him though?

Cecilia00 said...

@Moonmaid - His injuries were not from the
cops, but rather the car accident he it into. Damn lucky he didn't kill someone or himself.

Anonymous said...

We had a couple of drive-thru barns in my college town. If I recall, they had all kinds of beer and wine, and the basics of hard alcohol. I don't know if they are still there -- I hated my college town and vowed I'd never return once I graduated. And I never have.

This entry is kind of sad. I had a huge crush on Travis back in the day, even though I don't like 99% of country music. He has a great voice -- in my opinion, the only other country singer with a better one is Ricky Van Shelton.

Frufra said...

@Tex - check out Vince Gill - Go Rest High on That Mountain - beautiful, haunting song. I'll put him up there based on this one song alone.

There's also a new kid with a very similar vocal quality to Randy T. Think his name is Josh Turner.

Frufra said...

Must amend - new kid to me. He's been around almost ten years :-).

pilly said...

His mugshot is classic. ROUGH

auntliddy said...

"dear Randy- meet you in the park` Brigitte." seriously, the f*cking damage addiction does!!!

Frufra -- I forgot about Vince Gill! Yes, his voice is gorgeous, as well. Thanks for reminding me of him!

Travis was charged with DWI and retaliation for making the threats against the cops. I think that last part is a felony?

Cassiopeia said...

I don't really see why a drive thru liquor store seems like a bad concept to some. It doesn't contribute to drinking and driving.
If people are going to drink and drive they are gonna do it whether they drive thru or have to get out of their car to walk into a store to buy alcohol.

Seems lots of states allow passengers to drink.
Here in MN it is illegal to have any open container.
That would include a open case of beer or even a bottle with the seal broken.

Poppymann said...

Not only do we still have Brew thrus, there's one about a mile or two from where he got wrecked.

feraltart said...

Australis has tons of drive through liquor stores. You generally call in on the way to a party or on your way home. More a convenience thing.

Unknown said...

Texas! where you can kill a man with your car and become First Lady!!

Travis is sooo far in denial about his gayness..I think he drinks and drives to try and kill himself.

lolaluvs2snack said...

My question is why was he driving naked? Lol

Anonymous said...

Unknown, I don't know if you are a troll or what, but I do know you are a douche. That comment was out of line as well as being incredibly stupid.

RT is a sweet man, at least he's always been sweet to me and that makes him a sweetheart in my book. He is divorced from Lib, who is NOT a sweetheart. He obviously has some demons he needs to banish and I hope he gets the help he needs.

RT was a wild teenager when Lib heard him sing and became his "manager." She was married at the time and she and her husband took him in.

PS: The gay rumor is NOT true. I've spoken to her ex-husband and if they were just "acting" like they were having sex under his roof, they turned in Oscar-worthy performances lemme tell ya!

altar boy said...

So sad. Hope he is hauled away to rehab and then gets a new environment.

Does anyone remember his guest appearance on Matlock? They added a few scenes of him and Andy Griffith playing guitars and singing together. It was so sweet.

WUWT? said...

To clarify, the states that used to allow drinking and driving NEVER allowed driving DRUNK; they just allowed drivers to have the beverage of their choice while driving, even if that beverage included alcohol. There is a difference; having a drink does not mean being drunk. I still think it's a bad idea, because in my opinion, a person whose beverage of choice WHILE DRIVING is alcohol is the same person who doesn't know when they've had too much. But there was a distinction, legally, in those states.

Now for a funny story. I don't drink but my then-boyfriend now-husband does. Back when I lived in MN but was out of town, a friend was watching my cats for a little bit after work each day, and one day she decided to help herself to one of my boyfriend's beers while she was there. She had a cup with her from work and poured the beer into it and watched TV and pet the cats for awhile and then headed for home. She wasn't done with the beer yet and wasn't thinking, and, like it was a glass of lemonade or something, she put the uncovered glass between her legs as she drove home. On a tight curve off of the interstate she thought to herself that she had to make sure the beer didn't tip and spill, and suddenly was all OHMYGOSH I'M DRIVING WITH A BEER OHMYGOSH! I'M GOING TO BE ARRESTED WHAT WAS I THINKING OHMYGOSH! Suddenly she saw police cars in every set of headlights, driving in a panic the last mile home. The theatrics with which she tells the story make it very funny. Obviously she wasn't drunk, having had less than one beer in two hours, but open container is very much illegal and she just wasn't even thinking.

I'm stuck on drive through liquor stores. I'm in NYC and we can't buy alcoholic beverages except in liquor stores. Beer can be bought in supermarkets of course.

Drive through liquor stores?! I really can't wrap my head around that.

Lucas said...

Where did you grow up? I am from Texarkana, TX originally and when I was a teen we would head down to Shreveport because you only needed to pass for 18 to drink in clubs. We called Hwy 71, which ran between the cities as the "highway of death" because so many teens wiped out on the way back. Good times, indeed.

Lelaina Pierce said...

@Unknown - I am also wondering why it was not mentioned that he was naked??

His mug shots are awful. I feel a bit sorry for him. He must be in an awful place.
