Today's Blind Items - Another Dysfunctional Show
Shortly after I wrote about what I think was the most dysfunctional show ever on television, someone reminded me about a show I had not thought of in awhile. In my mind, it was not nearly as dysfunctional because there were really only about four or five people involved in the dysfunctionality of it. I will let you decide.
In favor of this show being the most dysfunctional is that what happened on the show caused one of the leads to quit acting forever. Every once in awhile they will do something, but since the show ended its run in the 90's she has been out of the limelight. She was the Betty almost in this fivesome. I figure if threesome is a word, then fivesome should be too. Anyway, the lead actor (#1) who is still a solid B lister who keeps making good shows asked our actress out almost on the first day of filming and they dated awhile. This is where it gets kind of freaky. The lead actress on the show who is a C lister at best now was a head turner and is the Veronica in this fivesome. Our lead actor and his co-star (#2) who is probably the best known of the five now and has been in one of the most popular shows of all time both tried to ask her out and they kept failing. She would always turn them down cold. Ice cold. The reason? Well, it is one of the bigger secrets in Hollywood and one she would never in a million years make public because it would cost her so much face, but she was having a torrid affair with the Betty of the fivesome. Our Betty was quiet about it then and now and says it is the only woman she has ever been with. Neither of the other male leads had any clue. Now where it gets even more interesting is that #1 would often drop off Betty at her place at about midnight and waiting at her place would be Veronica. At some point, #2 started dating a former A lister known way more for her looks than her acting. In order to have a chance with her, Veronica agreed to sleep with #2 hoping she could convince him to have a threesome with his girlfriend. He was game, but his girlfriend was not. At the end of all of this and years of being manipulated by #1 and Veronica, our Betty walked away from the world of acting.

Took me a second to figure out who Veronica and Betty where outside this blind. Thank god for Sunday funnies.
And I have no fffin clue who or what this could be. I stopped reading after the first sentence quite honestly.

Probably way off but- Saved by the Bell with Mark Paul Gosselar as lead, Tiffani Thiessen as Veronica, Mario Lopez as Co star with Ali Landry as former A lister girlfriend (maybe) and Lark Voohries as Betty, hence why she is the way she is now.
Party of Five was also my guess, assuming Scott Wolf was supposed to be the lead (Matthew Fox for the other co-star, JLH for the Veronica, and that random blonde who played Kirsten for the one who left HW).
Mention of the "fivesome" makes me think "Party of Five", but I don't know enough about that show to comment intelligently. A quick glance at IMDB... Lacy Chabert hasn't really dropped out of acting, though.
How about Northern Exposure? Betty is Cynthia Geary, Veronica is Janine Turner, star is Rob Morrow (Numbers), better known co star is John Corbett who dated Bo Derek (better known for looks than acting).
Reference to cold, ice cold. Hee.
No idea, so I'm offering up a breakdown of the blind:
Show - ended run in the 90s
"Betty" actress - out of the limelight since the 90s, walked away from the world of acting
#1 Lead Actor - Still a sold B-lister, makes good shows
"Veronica" actress - Lead actress on show, head turner then, C-lister now at best, was having affair with "Betty"
#2 Co-star - Male, best known of the 5, has been in one of the most popular shows of all time (to me, this reads as if he could have had a guest stint, not necessarily one of the stats of "most popular show")
Former A-list actress - Dated #2 Co-star, known more for looks than for acting

I was trying to make this work for friends while reading (because to me phoebe would be Betty and Monica would be Veronica) but it wrapped in the 2000's I believe and other clues don't fit.
At the god awful hour of 7am when i am working out, Charmed is on Tnt or tbs... It immediately popped into my head.

I totally read this as Saved By The Bell. Lark Voorhees's problems are pretty well known.

This part gives me pause on the "NE" guess, though. Corbett didn't start dating Derek until 2002. This BI makes it sound as though #2 was dating the former A-lister whilst he was on the show, right? If not, Turner was trying to hook up with Corbett to get to Derek after 2002, correct? Would they really have still been in touch? I mean, I don't know. I guess it's possible, but it seems unlikely.
Unless Enty is fudging on the timeline, which could be.
Geary still does occasional acting.... hmmm

Northern Exposure doesn't fit only because Cynthia Geary still acts. IMDB shows her doing 1-2 projects steadily every year from 2002 to now, lots of things in 1998.
This just got really tough. There aren't that many huge shows that could fit for #2, so it shouldn't be that hard! Ugh.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar dated Lark Voorhees but was hot for Tiffani. They've all admitted that much. The only thing that gives me pause about the SBTB guess clicking into place is that Ali Landry was maybe A list for six months and it was long after the show ended.
For what it is worth, Janine Turner got her start on General Hospital in the mid-'80's with Demi Moore, as they tried to replace Genie Francis. Turner had long blond hair at the time.
After Northern Exposure, Turner dated/bearded Troy Aikman and ended up having the child of the son of the owner of the (hated-in-Philadelphia) Dallas Cowboys. She was in some awful movies (Leave it to Beaver, anyone?) and more recently some commercials for snake oil-type products.
Don't know what Cynthia Geary has been up to--too lazy to check.
To add to the Betty and Veronica dichotomy is that Geary was blond and Turner was brunette during Northern Exposure.
Bo Derek is the quintessential known-more-for-her-looks-than-her-acting.
Party of Five and Saved By The Bell are good guesses.. this could be it!
Even tho Geary does some occasional acting, the world was at her feet after NE ended and I'm sure her phone was ringing off the hook but she really didn't pursue acting on a steady level. So I'm sticking with NE.

janine turner is some wacky conservative who, according to her own website, believes that the law requiring that women get paid equal to men is bad for women. she's kind of the beautiful, bleached blonde version of rush limbaugh.

Janine dated some pretty high profile guys at her ppeak:Baryshnikov and Alec Baldwin, etc...IIRC.

The show ended in 1995. Bo Derrick was married to John Derrick until his death in 1998. She met Corbett on a blind date after his death. So I don't see how she could be involved in the blind.
The NE blind makes me want to find someplace to watch that show again--I loved it and haven't thought of it in a long time.

Many possibilities for Betty and Veronica. Could be Alexandra Paul is the girl who walked away from it all?
When did Dallas end? Didn't Victoria Prinsipal walk away and do nothing after? And refuse to get together with the cast or even discuss a return in the new version? Just a thought, there were some heavier hitters on there, like Larry Hagman.

So, Northern Exposure had many regulars, well more than 5. If we were going to count Cynthia Geary, we would have to count all the others. I did like the guess at first, but this makes me rethink it.
Who were the guys on "Charmed?" I think all the women on it are active in TV still, right?
About NE: Acccording to imdb, Cynthia Geary met her now-husband in 1994, before the show ended, owns a restaurant/bar in Washington state, where NE was filmed, and is a mom. She basically created the character's life as her own except marrying a real estate guy instead of an older former fur trader. I don't think the BV is NE unless Enty posts on occasion to give us a hint to look there.
I like the Party of Five guess, but I have a hard time with Jennifer Love Hewett being the Alpha Girl at such a tender age.
Cheers is my guess. Being that Kirstie Alley is suspect number one for the lipstick lesbian team. Her close friendship with Kelly Preston, the blind about the Xenu ladies drinking too much wine once in a while and....., the fact that she's been without a man for what seems like the last fifteen years.... I'm thinking her and Shelly Long for the torrid secret affair. She's just got that deep butch cigarette voice that I can't imagine being interested in a man.
But Shelley and Kirstie were never on the show at the same time...
I'm most intrigued by the Party of Five and Saved by the Bell guesses, having watched pretty much the entire runs of both shows. (I'm pathetic, I know)
