Halle Berry Was Surprised Unprotected Sex Could Get You Pregnant

I am always shocked when I hear celebrities say they were so surprised they got pregnant. No, they were not on the pill or taking any form of birth control, but still, they are always shocked or surprised. Why? Do they think their bodies work differently? Have they taken so much Adderall and starved themselves to such thinness that they think they don't ovulate? Well, ok, I think even medical science is shocked that Rachel Zoe or Nicole Richie got pregnant, but for the rest of the celebrity world, I am going to let you in on a secret. Unprotected sex can lead to babies. I know. Shocker. So, when Halle Berry gives an interview saying that getting pregnant was the biggest surprise of her life, I have to ask, the question, so you knew David Justice was going to beat you that bad? How is getting pregnant when you are having unprotected sex and monthly periods a shocker? Getting the crap beat out of you by your ex-husband should be bigger shock. Finding out Eric bent was a sex addict. That is a surprise. Hopefully. Having unprotected sex and getting pregnant? Go watch an episode of Teen Mom.

KendraWM said...: As much as I dislike Halle, I will give her a pass on this one. I would be surprised if I was pregnant right now, we have been having unprotected sex for 4 years, over 40 you think it could happen, but never really think it is going to.

At age 40 your odds are 25% that you will get pregnant.

At 43 it drops to 10% and in just one year (age 44) it drops to 1.6% to conceive naturally. You have a 98.4% chance of not getting pregnant. Clearly the odd are in your favor of not getting pregnant.; 6:52 AM

At 46 it is unlikely you'd get prego as fertility drops drastically after age 35, then even more after age 40 and even more past age 45. I think there's like a less than 10% chance. I had my last baby at age 40 and there was a 4 YR space in-between him and the one before. It took a long time!; 6:53 AM

I know things are done earlier than when I had mine, but I work with people who were trying to get pregnant at around 38 and they needed fertility drugs and waited a long time before telling/confirming baby was on the way.; 7:57 AM

I believe they can now do blood tests on the mother fairlynearly on to screen for Downs and get the baby's sex, rather than doing an ammio. Thank God, because that needle was really really long and the thought of that going anywhere near the baby (not to mention having to submit to it) was terrifying.; 8:06 AM

What's going to be interesting is :
1- If she'll carry the baby to term.
2. What Olivier will do if they part before or after the baby is born...I tend to think he'll go after custody and $$$$.

KendraWM said...: There is a lot of early screening done. She mostly likely had a CVS (chorionic villi sampling) it can be done at 10 weeks and does the same screening as an amnio. Since they know the sex, she had to have had that done as it is the only full proof way to determine sex this early.; 8:15 AM

delete account said...: Halles not that stupid. Shes diabetic--she has to go to doctors a lot just to keep it under control. I have two aunts who had the same diabetes she has, so i know what Im talking about. The doctors would have warned her to use contraception until she had went at least 12 months without a period,, then she would be officially in menopause. They would have also warned her against getting pregnant again due to the diabetes plus her age, it makes for an extremely high risk pregnancy. This witch got pregnant deliberately--its part of her plan to move to France, by claiming the paps (who I dont doubt for a second she has on speed dial) are harassing her. I hate this manipulative witch. As for her new baby daddy, I guarantee you that before their baby is out of diapers he's gonna be having the same drama that Gabriel Aubry has been for years--just wait and see. Don't the experts say your fertility decreases as you age? So, that's probably why she was surprised. For some people, it's really not that easy to get a bun in the oven.; 9:22 AM

I am honestly not sure if it is doctor and public ignorance, or if it is information that is intentionally withheld by the fertility industry in order to make lots of money - but in the last couple years before menopause, a woman's body will ovulate more than once during a month. Sometimes two or even three times a month.
This is one of the reasons that women in their forties have the most surprise pregnancies after teenagers. It is also why you hear stories of couples who tried for years, gave up, maybe adopted or something then suddenly got pregnant.
If women in their forties actually did ovulation tests every day in those years they would see that - yes - there are lots of months where they have more than one ovulation.
Doctors don't educate their patients that a lot of times it's easier to get pregnant at this time of their lives than in their late thirties.

My mom had twins (my older brothers) in the 70's. Apparently the twin gene runs in families and skips a generation (given down by the mom) Please note I have no scientific articles to back this up, it's just what I've always heard.

My favorite story about that is that my brothers were born in late April. On Easter of that year she went to a Church event wearing a pretty pastel maternity dress with blue/pink/purple/yellow stripes (don't hate, it was the 70's) and an obnoxious little boy yelled "Look mommy, She's an easter egg!" while pointing at my mom.; 12:17 PM

As regulars would know, my husband & I couldn't have children. I have seen my friends have children in their late 30s early 40s and it is much harder on their bodies & they don't have the energy while raising them they had when they were younger. I think if you have children when you are older that you need to ensure you are fit, but that you also keep up with current music etc. My husband had a hard time because his parents didn't.; 2:40 PM

I totally agree with you. As a woman who had twins at 41, I'm still shocked at how ignorant people are about fertility. I know many women who've gotten pregnant past 40. I know I believed my doctor who said it was slim to none that I would get pregnant.

You really need to get more information about what is going on with women's fertility. It's far more of independent cases than previously thought. There are women at 28 who have low fertility and women at 50 with high fertility. Each woman has to look at her fertility as an individual case.; 5:11 PM

YES, surprised it was finally successful. She was absolutely using fertility aids and froze her eggs a long time ago. She has serious diabetes and constant health issues. yes women get pregnant in their 40s, but drs consider 43 the semi- magical age where the chances go to less than 1%, while the miscarriage rate skyrockets, as well. After 45? Ridiculously rare. She is lying if she says she didn't get help. Which she actually doesnt say, btw. Just she is surprised and thought herself too old (that the treatments wirked, she conveniently doesnt add). There are only a small handful of women in history to ever surpass this age- EVER. yet, Hollywood would have people believe they happen to be those phenomenally rare genetic anomalies who defeat odds and science? Right, Kelly Preston at 48. Right, Halle at 46 with diabetes. You're doing a massive disservice to women by carefully cloaking the truth and feigning "surprise" that all your IVF or donor eggs or frozen embryos didn't play a part. Grrr.; 4:28 AM

Your sugar levels have to be just right for a period of time in order to get pregnant. I know women in their 20's and 30's who are being advised not to become pregnant until they are at better levels. It is very risky to become pregnant without planning it when you are diabetic.; 8:21 PM
