The mom on Nip/Tuck, Joely Richardson, had a relationship with the actor who played her son on the show. Obviously not the answer to this blind (Nip/Tuck a kid's show, haha) but it's not unheard of in Hollywood.
Considering that Angelina Jolie played Colin Ferrels mother in some movie, this speaks more to crappy casting than something escandaloso.
