Off Topic

I'm giving up sugar for the next six weeks so of course I have been gorging on sugar non-stop for the past two weeks.

I gave up sugar 10 years ago. It is the debbil. I will have a small sliver of someone's Birthday cake or pie a few times a year and that is all.

Good luck with that! Quitting anything cold turkey is hard to do...

I'm doing the Paleo thing, really helps my crohn's by reducing inflammation.

Watch out for the junk labeled "sugar free" - it isn't. Good luck!

Wow - you guys are healthy!

I've tried to get into the whole activated almonds craze but I can only stay good for two days before I start binging on naughty things like Twisties and Moro bars which I find irresistable :-/

I used to use those little sugar tablets in my coffee until someone pointed out the evils of aspartame to me (I'd rather have sugar thanks!).

Yayyy Enty!! :)

Let me know when you're ready for healthy, delicious smoothie recipes. I make an awesome broccoli smoothie and its yum. Also when youre weaning yourself off sugar, use cinnamon. It helps your body adjust and its a healthy replacement for sweers. Good luck, Ents!

I am going to give up my afternoon sodas & sports drinks. Maybe will help the tummy bloat.

@Eros - broccoli smoothie?!!! Gosh ... that sounds healthy.

I do love a good spirulina and OJ smoothie in the morning ... or a carrot and orange one (with leftovers heated up as soup for lunch).

Smoothies are a fantastic start to the day. I didn't know that about cinnamon ... I usually sprinkle some on my banana on toast which is delicious.

Have you heard of the SCD? My wife follows it for her crohn's...like paleo I guess. Also, lots of good bacteria in homemade yogurt!

Cleodacat said...

I've been doing the Once a Month Cooking. I absolutly HATE cooking, so it allows me to cook once a month and still eat healthy (with minimal reheat).

I'm eliminating chicken and beef from my diet completely. Pork is a non issue since I have a severe food sensitivity to it, it's already eliminated from my diet. I'm doing this mostly to lose a few pounds I put on from having a surgery that kept me from working out for many more weeks than was anticipated. And then there were the holidays... I'm gonna be lookin' fine by the time summer rolls around.

And before I get unsolicited dietary advice - don't worry about. I got this.

My friend has been following that for her son (who had crohn's) she swears by it. I'm just terrible about daily cooking.

I'm giving up my sobriety.

I'm giving up chocolate for Lent again....

In the same way before I give something up. I gorge like an addict on the way to rehab.

I give up meat for Lent every year.

Oddly enough, one thing my wife tolerates well is Indian food! I think the spices help get her gut flora balanced. Some stuff is good cooked in advance, that helps.
She also loves making smoothies with her nutri-bullet, which is fast and easy, and the ingredients can be frozen.

My mom got mad at me because I wouldn't let her give the baby sugar water for her hiccups. I told her the only reason we had white sugar in the house was to mix with borax to kill ants with.
Personally, we are honey folk in my household.

OneEyeCharlie said...

@Alicia: I have about 10 different honey types in my house, currently. Love it. I have a eucalyptus honey that is lovely in a lemon tea. Also love the dark Bavarian honey.

There are a lot of orchards in my area; hence mucho beekeepers. Honeycomb and blue cheese on a cracker is heaven.

I love honey! This honey right here changed my life:

Not much to the website but if you come across this specific brand, do NOT hesitate to buy it.

@OneEye - mmm.. Bavarian Honey.. Want!! I feed my son local honeycomb every day for his allergies. There's a honey farm up on Mt Hood that makes a lavender honey I cool with all the time and an apple honey that is heaven. I've been inspired to try my hand at mead making this spring.

Hate to burst your bubble, but honey is LOADED with sugar. 17 grams per tablespoon. Not a healthy food.

@Oopsy. That was my reaction, too - Enty's Christian? You don't meet to many of those in Hollywood.

You don't have to be Catholic to give up stuff for Lent. I'm Episcopal and will be giving up my beloved Coca-Cola. Gave up booze last year and pissed off all my friends.

Oopsy_Daisy said...

My friends always loved when I would give up alcohol. That meant they had a DD every weekend! Husband says the same thing whenever I'm pregnant. :P

I did the 21 day sugar detox - great recipes and guide - I have never felt better. www.balancedbites.com and remember to eat poodles of protein - also don't forget NO BOOZE! Good luck with that Ent :)

I've been trying to give up sugar, too. It's been the worst three days of my life. I'm trying acupuncture.

that's gonna hurt for the first few days esp after all that binging......

Hi Stepforded... yeah, the one I make has many good fruit ingredients which hide the taste of the broccoli. Its really good. I will have to hunt fown the entire recipe. I tend to be a smoothie experimenter. Lol..so I will throw an ingredient in out of curiosity. Just a warning, fresh kale isnt good with any smoothie.yech!! Lol.. one of my personal trainers turned me on to the cinnamon thing and you know Iit sorta works. You do crave sweets a little less if you put it on yogurt, fruits, smoothies. He explained to me about whats in cinnamon but I can't remember what but it has ingredients that work well for those trying to stay away from sweets. I will have to try the banana thing. I put it in my coffee.. oh yes almost forgot that is so awesome that you're into healthy goods like spirulina. Ive been sick twice this month so I have added a new product which has spirulina, barley grass, wheat grass, kale and a host of many other green things including scores of probiotics. I throw a scoop into my shaker cup every morning with a little soy milk and have it for breakfast.
Sorry I babble when it comes to exciting topics like this. :)

Sugar is the Debbil. Hey Enty, I know you supposedly weigh 300+ lbs but seriously, weigh yourself today and again on Easter Sunday. We can take bets on the difference. I'll start with 27 lbs....

Enty's not kidding. I NEVER craved sweets until I became diabetic. Now I shouldn't have it, and I want it all the time!

What is SCD?

aemish said...

Switch to Stevia. It's zero calories and not just healthier -- it's healthy. It was only available as a nutritional supplement for the decades before it became approved by the FDA as an alternative sweetener.

whitney_world said...

Really? Me too. I'm giving up sugar forever, though. Well, hopefully...

Your body digest alcohol the same as it does sugar..... Is ENTY getting clean too? Ha ha ha. I'm funny, no?
