Off Topic

I thought I would save money by making my own pizza last night. $30 worth of cheese and sausage later plus sauce and the dough I bought and I had a $50 pizza.

LOL I've done that sooo many times with seafood, steaks, etc.. like wtf am I doing, I'm not a saucier! I should have paid less for a professional chef to feed me!

It is slightly more expensive for us to make our own pizzas at home, but they're healthier and my son can help me in the kitchen - so it's totally worth it.

It definitely happens and rarely as good as it would be in a restaurant.

We make our own pizzas here at Chez Violet (oh yes, I am nothing if not smug). Flour, yeast, cheese and toppings and we easily make pizzas for 5 for less than £10.

So true.. sill who doesn't like to play with pizza dough :p

Enty, next time, just buy a baguette and use your leftover toppings to make a french bread pizza -- that should offset some of your expenses :D

Lol... my bf is good at putting together pizzas like that. Our ingredient s are pretty cost effective though. We keep it basic though and its always good! The trick is in the seasoning. Oregano and a little fresh rosemary and a little olive oil.. a good friend of mine does the olive oil on her pizza and swears by it.

Ya.. we pretty much get rooked at the grocery store.. UNLESS you shop on the inside processed-junkfood aisles, then it's dirt cheap! :p

Enty..I like the pizza dough from Target. I start with rubbing lemon olive oil all over dough which you can easily get at home goods or whole foods. Then light sauce. Ricotta, pepperoni, fresh chopped white onions and light mozzarella. More ricotta than mozzarella. 425 for 12 minutes. Enjoy.

None of that is true. I make pizzas most weekends and it is WAY cheaper than paying per topping. Plus I can throw in all the healthy stuff

I got a bread maker for christmas and one of these days i'm going to do batches of pizza dough so i can freeze them.

@Violet. Same here! And it solves that pesky problem of everyone wanting something different.

Both twins want cheese, but one wants red sauce and one wants white sauce. Princess the Elder wants pepperoni. But twin B doesn't to pull pepperoni off to get cheese. Grandma wants Hawaiian. And Princess the Younger wants White Sauce, cheese on the side. Now I can just make dough and toss all the ingredients on the table and let them sort it out for themselves.

I'm guessing Enty bought 2 lbs of high-end bacon.

Oooo! Lots of great pizza tips in these comments!

Off topic off topic: 2 things. One is Kerry ( oops i took ambuen unstead of thyroid meds) bitching that she was dragged thru penal system unfairly and not every drunk driver shld be proscuted. Yes, you're reading correctly. What balls!!!! Secondly, dr Drew's daughter, Paulina , who i think is like 20 or 21, has come out to say she was bulimic as a teen, and when she finally got the nerve to tell her mother, her mothers answer was," we better get your teeth checked." She is only girl of triplets and was envious her brothers cld eat all they wanted and not gain. She said her mother was a model and passed her body insecurities along to her. She said relationship with mother is work in progress. What does Dr Drew the shrink say? He's ' so glad she came forward and now wants to be of service to others ." How dry and unemotional is that? Where was he that he cldnt see his daughter had no relationship with her mother?( paulina's description). What the hell?????? I'm blown away by this!

Oh, and Enty? Next time order 2 pizzas and put one in freezer for next time. Done.

I have a pizza dough recipe that is 5 ingredients. And one is water. It doesn't have to be expensive! Now, if you are using hand-cured pancetta and truffles, I can see how that would add up...

My husband being lactose intolerant has made it harder and harder for us to order or buy pizzas especially because they keep going more and more to processed fake cheese.

So here's the trick to keeping it cheap. 1. make your own dough, its not hard, you only need about 20 min extra for the dough to rise. Or if that is too much for you buy rolls of bisquits, flatten them out or cut them in pieces to make a pizza casserole. 2. Buy that frozen bag of Jimmy Dean Sausage breakfast scramble mix, and pull out the sausage and peppers for you pizza. 3. I use barbeque sauce since I always have it. So just buy the cheese and whatever else you want on it and that will keep the cost down.

I make my own pizzas and they are considerably cheaper and better for us than ordering them. For less than $10, I can make a Margharita and one with pepperoni or salami and veggies. I also use white whole wheat flour. I grow my own basil in the summer. Not only are they better for us but they taste a hell of a lot better than the chains. I also never use the pizza yeast, always use plain old yeast in my Kitchen Aid mixer.

This is the best recipe for crust I have ever tried. It makes two pies. Sorry it's not clicky!

I've been using store bought Naan for homeade pizza and it's perfect for one. Throw on tomato, mozz, basil and olive oil. Yummo!

I love making pizza at home. Last night I made one for just myself using whole wheat pita, bbq sauce instead of tomato sauce, a leftover pork rib and provolone. Delicious!

Nice, but it isnt pizza.

Where on earth are you buying ingredients? Doesn't have to cost that much at all. And a homemade pizza can be successful and even yummy. I am allergic to kitchens, and even I made a good, frugal, homemade pizza. Hoodah thunk it.
