Chelsea Handler Is Not Replacing Craig Ferguson

Yesterday the internet was all abuzz at the possibility of Chelsea Handler replacing Craig Ferguson when his contract expires at the end of June. The buzz came from Chelsea herself who sent out a photo(above) with the CBS logo and the caption business meeting. According to The NY Post, CBS says the meeting was with their syndication group and that she is not a candidate to replace Ferguson. The interesting thing I took from that denial is that they didn't say Ferguson wasn't going to be replaced. They already owe him $5M for passing over him for the Late Show spot so maybe they want to pay that and then get rid of him. I think he should stay, but it wouldn't shock me if he was a little ticked off to not really even be considered and maybe he does want to leave. If he was staying you would expect a differently worded response than “There are no discussions with Chelsea Handler regarding the network’s 12:30 late night broadcast; her meeting with CBS yesterday was a general meeting with our syndication group."

Her book (I only read the first one) was awful and mean-spirited, and she basically admitted to screwing her way to the top but with an "I'm so funny, I could make it work!" schtick. Unknown said...: Yep that was me. He didn't want it, he wanted the 5 million bonus, plus an extension at 8-9 million per year. He saw how moving from 12:30 to 11:30 really neutered good comedy from Letterman and Conan as their shows just became about guests plugging their projects. Last I heard CBS was going to do the deal, but's its possible they want to get some other people in and maybe force his price down a little. Also CH doesn't want a daily show, she wants a weekly show with more time off. She might get it on TV, but could take a Sirius gig for now until something comes along.; 1:33 PM
