RIP, Rik.
ReplyDeleteYou were my boy in The Young Ones ...
I've said it in a previous post but he and his contemporaries defined UK comedy in the 80s. He will be missed.
ReplyDeleteThat is too young. RIP.
ReplyDeleteOh, Lord Flashheart. This is very sad. RIP and "woof woof."
ReplyDeleteViolet sleeps with Enty ;)
ReplyDelete@Dingle, more like since Enty steals all his blinds from the Daily Mail, it would only be proper to give the Brits a shout out...;-)
DeleteEnty wishes Dingle.
DeleteDrop Dead Fred, really dropped dead :(
ReplyDeleteRIP he was so good in the Young Ones remember it being on MTV when I was a kid and how crazy it was for the time.

ReplyDeleteDamn link
ReplyDeleteWoof!
Oh man, I loved The Young Ones. Stupid as it gets, but fun.
ReplyDeleteOooooooo, Violet has some serious pull with Enty. And then look at that sassy comeback to Dingle. Our little ginger Brit is all fired up today.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. Rik never really recovered from the quad bike accident.
ReplyDeleteMy fave character of his was Alain B'stard, the New Statesman.
Gutted. I loved him growing up.
ReplyDeleteWho's gonna look after Snot Face now??
No :-(
ReplyDeleteAnother piece of my childhood gone.
Too young.
ReplyDeleteI credit The Young Ones (and MTV for airing it) for introducing this small-town American to British humor.
Very sad, very young. RIP.
ReplyDeleteAm I ghoulish to want to know cause of death? :-((
I'm distraught about this. Far far too young. I grew up watching him. The young ones, bottom (TV and live shows) Blackadder, king arthurs disasters...drop dead fred, the new statesman (my fave). He will be sooooo missed xxxxxxxx
ReplyDeleteI never saw The Young Ones but if it's British you can bet it's good. Adore British humor. They are some funny mo fos!
ReplyDeleteRIP Rik!
I just now ordered "The Young Ones" from my library, as I only know him from "Blackadder." I needed a good classic new-to-me British comedy anyway. :-(
ReplyDeleteAlso try and find 'Bottom' his show with Ade Edmonson....it was like Rik and Vyvyan from The Young Ones grown up.
DeleteI never really watched The New Statesman but I've heard it's great too.
AKM - You will LOVE The Young Ones. It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me so sad. My thoughts to his family and friends.
I love him in "Blackadder" so very much. This is such sad news.
ReplyDeleteLoved him in The Young Ones. "Look out! CLIFF!!!"
ReplyDeleteWe would sit around (smoking hash) and watching The Young Ones, Bennie Hill, Monty Python and Dr. Who (Tom Baker!). In the very early 80's there was quite a bit of British TV available in the states. There was nothing like it at the time and quite frankly there's been nothing like it since (nothing like that hash either). RIP Rik.
ReplyDeleteWhat @Lula said.
ReplyDeleteDeath 'not suspicious' say police. Very sudden. His wife found him this morning. Dreadful for her and children.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace, People's Poet.
ReplyDeleteHe introduced me to some great humor that no one in my house understood in the 80s. Thank you MTV for bringing me The Young Ones and Rik.
ReplyDeleteCue the Cliff Richard...
ReplyDeleteThat B'stard thing was the first comedy series I ever watched (local and foreign).
ReplyDeleteRIP.
Loved Drop Dead Fred! Sad
ReplyDeleteI was about 15 when my friends and and I used to sit around laughing at him and the anarchic humour of The Young Ones.
ReplyDeleteThis is such sad news. Rest in Peace x
The Young Ones were the best ever!!!
ReplyDeleteThere was always a weird "blip" on the screen-every episode. If you slowed the VHS tape down, you would see that a random picture had been inserted.
Every one.
RIP
Waaah! I LOVED Drop Dead Fred!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh I so many sads about this.....The Young Ones defined my teen years and I saved up all my money to see him live with Ben Elton in 1986. Such a genius....
ReplyDeleteEnty, how could you not mention "Drop Dead Fred"?? It came out when I was about 10 and everybody I knew around my age *loved* it.
ReplyDeleteSometimes when I'm annoyed at someone I still think of Drop Dead Fred's solution for Lizzie's ex-boyfriend. "I know! We'll harpoon him through the head!" LOL.
He was always getting on Vivians ass about something!
ReplyDeleteIt's like a piece of my rebellious teenager has gone. So sad.
ReplyDeleteThe young ones was on at 11.30pm! You had to be REALLY HARD to stay up & watch it. Or wasted. (Not so much at 14!)
May the seed of your loin be fruitful in the belly of your womaaaan!
