Stop right there, Austin. Slavery was abolished 250 years ago in the USA. Even in 1861, at the start of the US Civil war, slavery was already illegal in most of the USA (ie every State north of Maryland). And even in the Southern US States where slavery was legal, slaves were only owned by a small minority (less than 5%) of the population. Not only did most Americans never own slaves, but the overwhelming majority of currently living Americans do not have ancestors that owned slaves either.
So what, exactly, is this "unfair advantage" you currently enjoy because of slavery 250 years ago? Over whom are you advantaged, and how is this advantage unfair? Also, how does YOUR unfair advantage, compare, to say, the unfair advantage of persons living in Korea, which only outlawed slavery in 1894, or China (1906), or Iran (1928), or Portugal (1869), or Brazil (1871), or thirty other countries, all of which had legal slavery for DECADES after the USA abolished it?
France abolished slavery in 1794. That was 70 years before the USA. . .do current residents of France have a lesser "unfair advantage" because their slavery was abolished sooner, and if not, why not?

The short answer: unfair advantage = the results of institutional racism.
For example after WWII black families were inhibited from getting loans which boxed them out of the housing boom...housing being one of the greatest sources of wealth accumulation. We are now not talking about 250 yrs ago we are talking about people who are still living like my grandfather who benefitted from a racist policy. My grandfather is not racist but he did get a loan that was not as easily available to black people. Well that is my grandfather having an unfair advantage not me right? Well sorta...guess who's grandfather gave $10,000 toward starting their own company....hint their name is also a US city. Yes my own hard work, time, sweat and personal funds made up a lot of the company but that $10,000 was a huge helping hand. A helping hand made possible by a racially biased loan 60yrs earlier. The simple fact is a black person equal in age, education, geography etc to me is less likely to have a personal network who can help them financially. Why? Institutional racism...its echo is still reverberating even if the original policy has been dismantled. Yes the echo would eventually die out on its own but we should be taking actionable steps to try and muffle it more quickly.
PS: The loans are but one of the many, many examples of institutional racism that still echo today.

Notice how the commenter mentioning how the Irish "overcame" did not say it out of love and pride. It was just a thinly-veiled way to bash Black people. Nobody ever mentions what Irish people went through when they first arrived in America unless they want to defend evil, so it is a big red flag. The Irish were not slaves here. They were identured servants. It is outrageous to compare the two. Not to mention, they did not have to march on Washington for their equality. That is because they are White and that allows them to sit at the table, even after a "settling in" period.
