Four For Friday - The Harvey Of Old Hollywood - Mr. X

Back in the day, there was a de facto studio head that was the Harvey Weinstein of his day. There was no female actress it seems that he didn't assault. It was a who's who of A list actresses that he assaulted, impregnated, and got abortions for.

This permanent A lister who has a celebrity offspring who is a permanent A lister was raped by him when she was underage but fought him off as she got older.

During a sex party gone wrong, he is suspected of being the killer of this at the time A list mostly television actor. The actor was also having sex with the our Harvey's wife, so that also contributed to it.

Our old time Harvey tried to pin the murder on an actress who co-starred with the A lister. Apparently she kicked our Harvey in the balls once when he tried to assault her.

He said he destroyed this stag film that the mean actress who was a permanent A lister made before she was famous. He didn't though and would blackmail her with it whenever he wanted to have sex with her.

Reporters should ask the aging actress who has been in the news this week about her being assaulted by him too. She was, multiple times.

A list tv guy killed at the sex party was the original superman.

Joan Crawford is the mean actress, Angela LAnsbury the aging actress in the news.

Actually I change my guess to Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. Louis B Meyer as the producer. Not sure of TV star.

Janet Leigh/Jamie Lee Curtis or Tippi Hedron(spelling?)/Melanie Griffith?

Angela Landsbury for the actress in the news this week

Judy Garland/Liza Minnelli as the perm A lister and offspring? I know studio bosses were downright horrible to Judy (though this is hardly news).

Eddie Mannix "defacto studio head"

George Reeve "A list TV actor"

Joan Collins as the actress in the news. Doesn’t she reportedly have an old school adult film floating around somewhere?

I Just did a little sleuthing and I thing this is Eddie Mannix, A head honcho at MGM, George Reeves for A list Tv star having affair with his wife, Judy garland for underage with A list daughter Liza, and Angela Lansbury for in the news recently, she started at MGM in the 40's. Not sure about a lister that kicked him in the balls, I think the old stag film might be Joan Crawford.

Cool site thanks for the link

I think Canuck Lurker has it all correct. Definitely Joan Crawford in the stag film. Many biographers have said the film's existence was routinely used to keep Joan in line and her first husband, Douglas Fairbanks, confirmed it did exist.

Who killed Superman? The sinister true story behind the death of George Reeves

so eddie mannix - producer
toni mannix - producer's wife/affair with dead actor
george reeves - murdered actor
phyllis coates - actor's co-star initially pinned in murder by mannix

i checked debbie reynolds, tippi hedren, jayne mansfield, judy garland and janet leigh and found no movies they worked on with eddie mannix.

Good work to everyone who helped put the pieces together! cocopuff was the first to get the George Reeve item, and Fred84 was the first to get the Joan Crawford/Angela Lansbury item. Such sleuthing skillz!

Phyllis Coates, one of the women who played Los Lane on the show,is the one he tried to frame. Manix wife called her within an hour of his death and gave her details of the murder. She then denied knowing anything about it.

I’m going with tough actress as Lois Smith who is in the news this week for Oscar talk for Lady Bird. Below is her IMDb link. She would be the oldest every nominated at 87. First movie was east of eden.

Yup, Fred got it

okay, throwing a monkey wrench in it:

eddie mannix has been called a weinstein online, and was involved in george reeves' death. but he only has 4 imdb credits for production (from 1935-1943 -- that's a short career). and i can't link him to any mother/daughter actresses.

on the other hand, tippi hedren this week said that weinstein reminds her of hitchcock.

just sayin'.

Mannix is my bet, killing Superman.

Landsbury just pisses me off, she always wanted to be a startlet, but Hollywood didn't think she was pretty enough and she's bitter and jelous old hag.

Himmmm said...

You won't find credits for Mannix. In those days he ran the studio - was not like it is today with credits. But look at the timeline he ran the studio (MGM) and look at the productions under his watch.

Hollywoodland...indeed.

thanks himmmm, that settles it. i'm going with judy and liza for mother/daughter.

eddie mannix wasn't just the long time runner of mgm (1924-62) but the original ray donovan! (one of them, anyway.)

This story was covered in HOLLWOOD LAND with Ben Afleck playing Superman, Bob Hoskins playing Mannix, Diane Lane playing his wife. This was a scary, creepy film. Worth checking out if you haven't seen it.

Angela Lansbury has more talent than 90 percent of hollywood . I doubt she is jealous of anyone she has a shelf full of awards and she gave up her career for a long time to be a mom lord knows what awards she would've gotten in those years She is good to her fans and always a lady pick on someone else

just sayin' said...

just realized that canuck lurker named judy garland with their original naming-of-mannix comment, but here's proof:
age of the actress when she did her first movie (per imdb credits which are clearly not complete):
janet leigh 20
tippi hedren 20
jayne mansfield 21
judy garland, 7

BayAreaGirl said...

It has to be Judy & Liza. While the other offspring are notable, I don't think they're quite permanent A list. Also, we know Judy was repeatedly abused by the studio as a child.

Angela said...

Lansbury was a character actor, who had a more than lengthy career. She was amazing in The Manchurian Candidate, for instance.
And the interview she gave wasn't scandalous or bitter. They just took some quotes out of context to make her look provocative. If you read the rest of her words, she gives some perfectly valid answers about the whole thing.

aanjheni said...

Good job all!

GoogleSleuth said...

Crawford! Haha I’m an idiot

Unknown said...

Lansbury did a lot of work on stage as well; you don't get picked by Sondheim to originate a role like Mrs. Lovett if you don't have serious acting and singing chops.

Unknown said...

Angela Lansbury was gorgeous. Also @BooHearne agree re: HOLLYWOODLAND- what a fantastic movie. near the end, where he's trying to get back in shape and realizes he's slowing down, the expression of shame/disappointment on Ben Affleck's face was incredibly sad.

@Do Tell thanks for that link. Made me sick. Made me grateful that women have more rights now. Also see the benefits of cell phone cameras and internet. Those poor women.

Andrea said...

Maybe Maureen O'Sullivan for the mother of the A lister? Mia's A-List isn't she?

just sayin' said...

that's a great guess, tho her imdb filmography starts in 1930, when she was 19.

Lisa said...

Go read the whole Landsbury interview and you'll see she was taken out of context. You'll fall back in love with her again!

Judy Garland/Liza Minelli.
George Reeves - actor who was killed.
Joan Crawford for the stag film.
