Today's Blind Items - The South 40
It is called the South 40 by those who started it because it is about 40 miles from three different states, while being in a fourth. It wasn't initially purchased by this A lister all of you know. He actually bought it from one of the founder's kids who was needing to sell some things after the founder died. It started off as a camp for troubled teens then it became a place where tween and teen boys were sent by their respective churches for camps in spring break and summer and a fall break right after Halloween. There was no charge to the families. Everything was paid for by the churches. These are not small churches. These are the titans of the south. These are prosperity gospel churches and all the pastors are wealthy and all like to keep their indiscretions a long way from their pulpits. Here they would go out to the South 40 and check up on the young charges from different churches. That was always the first rule. Don't mess around with the boys from your own church. There are plenty to go around. Don't be like some of their brethren who got busted and lost everything just because they stayed at home so to speak.
If they hadn't already learned that lesson, the now dead A list preacher showed them what would happen. He got greedy and couldn't control himself. The list of the perpetrators is small. They don't trust anyone they don't know really well and who has as much to lose as themselves. Each pastor is responsible for sending 100 kids a year to the camps. That is their "fee." Our A lister handles those outside the ministry. Again, the number is limited and everyone knows that death will come quickly if the group is betrayed. You can always tell when there is a new member of the group because one of the pastors will get a nice six figure donation right before one of the camps. The donations are right there in plain sight because the pastors like to publicly brag about big donations in hopes of getting regular congregants to give more.
