Real Life Golden Girls

Someone needs to get Betty White on the phone and get her thoughts on this proposed project, but to me it is sacrilege. Heresy. Shaming the name of Golden Girls which is one of the finest shows to ever enter the annals of television. Had to make sure I spelled annals right or this post could have turned into something entirely different.

The Producers of "The Amazing Race" are looking for stylish women ages 55-90, to join the cast of a docu-series that follows the privileged lives of California's high society women. We are looking to document the lives of a group of social butterflies that have lived a life filled with only the best. It seems for years television has forgotten the over 50 crowd, assuming they don't have what it takes to attract viewers. The time has come to welcome America's most important senior ladies to the screen and prove that life only gets better with age. If you represent someone who is ready to celebrate being mature, wealthy, and full of energy, televisions 7 time emmy award winning producer wants to highlight their life.

To me it sounds like it is going to be a Real Housewives thing. They do not want to celebrate the lives of older women. Do you really think someone can go in and sell something like that? What they want is a senior version of Real Housewives. I am sure they would love some women in their 50's and 60's who are dating a bunch of guys in their 30's.

Maybe I would be more receptive if they would change the name. You know how they retire numbers in sports? I think they should retire the name Golden Girls and never let it be used again.

Rue McClanahan Has Died

Rue McClanahan, the Emmy-winning actress who brought the sexually liberated Southern belle Blanche Devereaux to life on the hit TV series "The Golden Girls," has died. She was 76.

Rue McClanahan Kicks Her Husband To The Curb

Prior to her recent stroke, Rue McClanahan kicked out her husband. Neither of them will say why she kicked him out, but it must have been pretty bad. Even after her stroke, her soon to be ex says he offered to help her though the recovery but she didn't want him near her.

Probably in order to earn a couple of bucks, her ex, Morrow Wilson sold parts of his story to The Globe and also to The National Enquirer. In those stories he says that "She can understand what you are saying in conversation, but still has some trouble speaking. Her speech is slower than it once was and she hasn't completely recovered on the right side of her body. She's going to require a lot more physical and speech therapy."

Nice of you to sell that Morrow. He also says he has no idea why she kicked him out and he has nothing but love for her. "This is a woman I loved and still love. I feel like I've been hit by both barrels of a shotgun... I'm just sorry it turned out this way. I wish her only the best in her recovery."

I wish her the best too, and I think that if you really did, you wouldn't be selling or telling her story to the tabloids.

Rue McClanahan Hospitalized

Rue McClanahan has been hospitalized and is said to be suffering from acute cardiac illness. Rue was one of the Golden Girls and was supposed to be honored in a tribute in San Francisco next week.

In a statement given to The Advocate, she said, "My darlings, I'm just devastated that I am going to have to miss my own tribute at the Castro Theatre. Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I'm currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I'd much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you."

No Excuses - They Should Have Gone

Betty Whit went on Entertainment Tonight last night to talk about why all of the Golden Girls cast were a no show at Estelle Getty's funeral, but honestly, I don't understand her reasoning and still think it was really a bad idea to not be there. "Funerals are about [journalism], who was there and who wasn't? That's not about Estelle."

To me it is about Estelle. If you know the world is going to judge by who was there and who isn't there, then don't you think you owe it to Estelle to be there so the world does know you loved her and cared for her?

You all should know by now that I love Betty White and think she is still at the top of her comedic talents even at 86. However, I disagree with the whole thing about this is what Estelle would have wanted and wouldn't have wanted, etc. I agree that you knew her very well, but instead of all the controversy that is now surrounding her funeral and the scandal and drama that none of the cast showed up, don't you think you could have taken a few hours of whatever you are not doing now to show up. It would have allowed the world to focus on the positive and the show and how people love and adore the entire cast. Instead we get a few weeks of why the hell didn't they go? Did they all hate each other and not get along and blah, blah, blah.

Betty said they were with Estelle when it mattered. I'm sure you were, but no one knows you were and now because everyone was a no show at the funeral they won't believe you were there for her. I just think they all should have known they would take a bunch of crap for not being there and it would tarnish the memory and joy of a great show. They should have gone.
