Keith Bennett Memorial Service 45 Years After His Death

Many of you probably don't know who Keith Bennett is, but for true Smiths fans you know exactly who he is. One of the best songs ever written by The Smiths was Suffer Little Children. The song was based on the murder of Keith Bennett and other children who were murdered during a several year period in the 1960's. The murderers confessed about 25 years ago and led police to all the bodies but Keith has never been found. Today, Keith's mother at least finally had her memorial service for her son. She said at the service is that her only wish in life is to find the body of her son before she dies. I can't even imagine the pain she has gone through all of these years.

Its Thisclose

Two years ago it almost happened, and now next April it really looks like it will happen. I know most of you don't care, but I do. The Smiths are about to play one show and one show only at Coachella. Two years ago they were offered about $6M for one show, and they turned it down. This time though the offer is up to $10M. I don't know where the organizers are going to get that kind of money unless for the rest of the show it is just going to be one big Karaoke fest. That would be cool but the waiting list would be lengthy.

The sticking point in this whole reunion thing has always been Steven Patrick Morrissey but apparently he wouldn't mind one more big taste of the fame. It is not really about the money as in needing the money. It is about the money as in they want a whole bunch for an ego thing. Whatever. I don't really care. I do know that if they play, you can bet my big, fat, butt will be right there. You can come join me if you like, but I must warn you that desert heat and I really don't get along well, so make sure you bring plenty to hydrate me, and I'm not talking about water unless it is an ingredient in whatever else you are giving me.

Killers will be releasing an album in the US before the end of the year. The album will be made exclusively of B sides to singles released in other countries. The tentative song list includes "All the Pretty Faces" ("When You Were Young" B-side), movie soundtrack tunes "Shadowplay" (a Joy Division cover from Anton Corbijn's Ian Curtis biopic "Control") and "Move Away" ("Spider-man 3"), as well as a cover of Mel Tillis' "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town."

Morrissey is selling season tickets to his North American tour which kicks off September 20 in Tijuana Mexico. Morrissey is playing ten nights in LA at the Palladium and will offer fans tickets to all ten shows for the price of 9. An added benefit will allow fans early entry and a special poster. A similar plan will be offered for his 5 night run at NY's Hammerstein Ballroom. In other Smith's news, Morrissey recently turned down a $75M offer to tour with Johnny Marr under The Smith's name.
