Megan Fox Wants To Be An Archaeologist
If you see Megan Fox today, run up to her and ask her how to spell archaeology and then back and tell me because without spell check it is not happening for me. Why can't we just say people who like to dig up old things and are generally the first people to die in movies when the poison seeps out of the tombs or the mummy comes back to life.
Megan was on MTV and said that instead of being in a movie, that what she would really like to do is go on an archaeological dig somewhere. She says she has offers to go to England and dig but wants to go to Syria and Egypt. Obviously she does not watch the news too much. Probably to busy watching the History Channel while BAG watches 90210 on a loop and reminds everyone in the house that he used to be big and how his craft was perfect that day when he kissed Donna.

*sheepishly raising hand* my dream is to go to a dig in Egypt. However, I am under no delusions that I will ever get to go. Even if I could afford to and they would let me come sift some sand for free. It's too flipping dangerous.

Would it have to be Egypt? There are places you can volunteer your time for digs. Granted it's not Indiana Jones stuff but if you were to Google you might find something like this.
If not, things will settle down in Egypt someday ;>
Who the hell is offering her an opportunity to dig in England? Is she sure what they mean by "dig"? "Say Megan, why don't you hop over the pond and come dig with us. We can dig all day and all night. We'll wear you out with all of the digging that we will do. Don't bring BAG with you. Please come alone."
I am an archaeologist. If all she knows of archaeology is from movies and the Discovery channel, I'd be surprised if she lasted longer than three days on a dig. It's never as exciting as depicted on tv. Lots more mundane grunt work and very, very few golden idols and trigger happy nazis to fight.
So, pretty girls with a reputation for not being very smart are never allowed to want to improve themselves or do anything other than "be pretty"? What's wrong with her wanting to go on digs? Would it have been better for her to have said, "I just want to workout all the time and have lots of cosmetic procedures and go shopping. I don't ever want to go to interesting places and do interesting things." I agree that Megan may not be fully aware of the hard and often mundane work that goes with archaeology, but that doesn't mean that she should be mocked for having aspirations outside of acting, especially given that she isn't a very good actress. I think that if she finds something else to do, then she should do it.

I am the person who is fully aware archaelogy is not a whole lot of glamour. Had my life taken a different turn, however, I would most likely ended up going to school in a related field if not Egyptology itself. Hard stuff. Tried like hell to convince my teen she wanted to study it. She knows me so all she did was laugh and shove a copy of Barbara Mertz revised book in my hand. God bless that kid. She knows me so well.
I wanted to be one also until I found out about the working conditions....rough to say the least, and I don't like to spend time in the sun...so that took care of that.
I'm an archaeologist too & like Xenia think she wouldn't last more than a couple of days. It's mundane work and you're out in the elements all day in a (sometimes stinky & muddy) trench. It can really suck at times if you don't love what you do. Plus, from what I understand, it can be really hard to dig in Egypt (even without the political turmoil). (That's from my friend who's a Classical Archaeologist).
But kudos to her for wanting a new (educational) experience and wanting to expand her horizons.

Xenia and Meg...you are being very generous. I, too, am an archaeologist and movies/tv glamourizes our field (for good and bad). Anyone who has actually been on a dig, especially one where you've found *nothing* for days on end would agree that it's not always what it's cracked up to be. I'd give her 5 hours, tops. She wouldn't make it past lunch.
I love history--even the channel when they aren't showing the BS of Ax Men and Pawn Stars.
To be digging in the dirt for history my dream job as a kid. I liked Egypt but give me Ireland/Scotland.
I agree w/RJ, what's wrong with her wanting to do this? It doesn't even mean she has to study it, just go on a dig as a volunteer, sift dirt for a few days, then go home. Many archaeologists are in need of additional funding, so if they can get a little press, some extra attention, thay might not be a bad thing either.
Why hate on her for wanting to do this? Don't we all have dreams and aspirations?

I agree with @toldya... it's good to have goals, and she doesn't strike me as being dumb so much as being very insecure. I think perhaps she is being underestimated. If its a line her publicist told her to say that's lame, but it seems like an actual interest of hers so I say good for her. Go dig in England-- and there are "digs" or "sites" or whatever the right term is there, I saw one near Glastonbury a few years back, so its not like that's a crazy or uninformed thing to say.
But forget Ms. Fox-- I would like to dig into her companion in the above pic. Yum.

True, but I wouldn't want to spend any more time than I had to w/Michael Bay, either, even if it meant passing on the Pyramids...that, and she's older and probably smarter now than she was then. If she's sincere about her interest, more power to her, and I hope she does check it out some time--she may decide that it's not the career for her, but then again you never know...
I'm watching her on Ellen right now. She's removing that Marilyn tattoo! So yay for that!
