Halloween. People GIVE you free candy.

I mean, they give your kids free candy. Yeah, that's it.

for the rest of us!

Both alot of work and alot of fun. If one HAD to pick one, Christmas. it has everything- snow, presents, fireplaces, food, treats, do- gooding.

Sorry. Very difficult time of the year for me. Just want to get through it. Can't wait until they're over. Excruciating.

Thanksgiving absolutely!

Partly because my MIL doesn't come.

LOL @ Gayeld!

I was picking up Halloween candy mid-October and the two aisles next to the Halloween aisles were already set up with Christmas stuff. Day after Halloween, they were setting up the rest of the Christmas displays. When they start playing Christmas music in early November, by Christmas day, you're just sick of hearing the dogs woofing Jingle Bells. Save Christmas!

(But I'll take any excuse to watch Elf.)

Christmas. Here in Canada we don't make as much a deal about Thanksgiving like they do in USA.

Christmas, because I enjoy seeing the kids all happy.

For the past decade or 2 Thanksgiving has been hangover naps, food and football.

Thanksgiving for the chance to trot out the culinary skills.

I'm on the Halloween train, there, too. It's my anniversary, although that part of it could go either way.

January 2 is probably my favorite holiday. It's when I know the holidays are over and I can quit trying to buy stuff and be places and just get back to life as usual.

I prefer the drinking Holiday that exists from Halloween-New Year.

Thanksgiving :)

Turkey Day all the way! It's the only day I actually enjoy cooking. This year I'm doing a soul food theme.

I'm with you Bessie. Since my husband's been gone, I've no desire to celebrate any of the holidays, which totally sucks, because I used to love celebrating them all. Now, they're just something I try to get through without breaking down. (I have a 4 year-old, so not celebrating is not an option.)

Plus, I'm the one that has to do all the meal planning, shopping, and cooking, and Hubs' family SUCKS at RSVP'ing and/or showing up with more people than I planned on feeding.

I fuckin' hate the holidays. My mom is a total thunder-cunt, so while everyone was having magical holidays mine was completely miserable.
Now, my husband and I just make it about our son and we're much happier that way. :)

I'm sorry Jacq but I've never heard that term before and that made me laugh. I've got a difficult Queen Mum too.

I like Thanksgiving, but I love Christmas. For some reason starting holidays early has put me in the spirit. The lights are on the house and I'm overdosing on Hallmark holiday movies. The holiday commercials make me teary, but that Joe Boxer jingle balls/bells ad is funny.

Thanksgiving for sure

I LOVE Christmas! Besides,I'm Canadian and we just don't care *that* much about Thanksgiving.

OKay said...

Hey, Jacq, that sucks. :( Any stories you'd care to share? I'm always fascinated by family dysfunction...

Sherry said...

Bessie and Bellaluna sorry that the hollies bring you down. Bug hugs and hang on there.
Jaq totally stealing your "thunder cunt" term.
I am meh on either. Don't eat turkey and we don't do gifts - no kids to share it with. Both for making nice food if I have to pick and Christmas if I could see my sweet grand niece Veya. I miss my lil biscuit. Sad now thinking about her.

Thanksgivukkah. The next time the first day of Hanukkah is on Thanksgiving is 79,811. Sweet potato latkes with sour cream & cranberry sauce- Boom! That's what happens when holidays collide

Christmas = food + presents

Thanksgiving. Extra day off (day after) plus no presents to buy.

The combination of a lot of sad disappointing holidays and working in retail--a few years ago, I gave myself the gift of not having to "do" holidays anymore.

I just deal with what I need to for work--and try to make the holiday itself a day I can do whatever I want or nothing if that is what I want to do.

Much better.

Christmas for sure! I'm not a huge fan of the Thanksgiving food, and since no one drinks it's alot of awkward conversation and fidgeting. Now with the kids all freaking out and running around at Christmas time there's a whole lot less time for throat clearing and trying to keep conversations going.

It's hard to get revved up for Thanksgiving when it is in October--the lament of another Canadian. I love Christmas.

Thanksgiving because of the food and the football :)
