Christian Bale To Get A Warning - If He Pleads Guilty
The prosecution has spoken, and they have decided that Christian Bale should only receive a warning. The warning though is only good if he decides to plead guilty to assault in the incident that occurred with his mother and sister last month prior to the Dark Knight premiere.
If Christian decides to plead not guilty, then he would face charges still, and the possibility of imprisonment. Kind of a tough situation for Christian. It seems as if nothing wrong had occurred, that they would just let him go with no charges being filed.
So, something must have happened. It sucks for him that he can walk away with a wrist slap if he pleads guilty, but then every a-hole blogger like myself could start every post about him with the fact that he was convicted of assault on his mom and sister. That doesn't sound like loads of fun.
I think he should plead not guilty and take his chances if he didn't do anything. The problem with pleading guilty is that everyone forgets the facts of the case and only remembers the result.

A police caution is not a criminal conviction. The offender has to admit guilt to a minor offence, then the police will caution him as to his future behaviour and the caution is kept on record for five years. It's a way of keeping the courts for more serious charges.
The alternative for CB is a full court case with all the families dirty laundry out in public. Sounds like he should accept the caution.
I started to feel bad for him, then re-read your point that something must've happened or they'd drop the charges altogether. I'd go for the "not guilty" plea as well. The rumors that will never end are bound to be worse than the truth.
I think he'd want to avoid all the crap that would come out during trial. If what I've read about his Mom and siblings is true (that they want money), they wouldn't have a problem smearing him.
Eh. I'm an ex-DA. I wouldn't put any weight into the "something must have happened or they would drop the charges" with out knowing specifically the facts of what they are accusing him of doing and if he has a defense.
My impression had been that they hit him up for some big bucks and when he refused, insulted him and his wife, and that he may have forcefully ejected them from his suite. Nobody went to the doctor; no photos were taking of bruises.
I hope he doesn't plead guilty. There is something creepy about his mother and sister.
What? Whoa. Ok, the logical part of my brain is listening to j and wants to not assume anything else happened before knowing more details. The gossipy bitch part can't help but think either a) they found something about the case they want to push forward or b) the police got so much crap in every newspaper over letting him go to the premiere before being taken in that they feel they have to do something.
Hurm. It's going to be interesting to see how this is all handled. I honestly don't know what would be worse; pleading guilty or the battle of "who can pull out the most dirty secrets in court?" (Although, a lot of those secrets sound like they belong to his mother and sister) Either way, it's definitely not a happy time for the Bales.
I'm a paralegal and have been for (gasp) about 15 years. I have worked in the public (State's Attorney's Office) and private sectors and I can say this much....no one knows what happened if they weren't in the room. The gov't has a duty to pursue a case if it's a he said/she said situation with no outside corroboration from an independent witness or witnesses. They have a duty to protect the public at large. Is the system perfect? Hell no. But sometimes it IS easier to just plead guilty and take the licks than to fight something that is going to boil down to the two sides telling their side of the story and a court deciding who's more credible. Cuts down on time/expense of defense and gets everyone on with their lives. Not saying nothing happened, just saying people DO plead guilty to things that didn't happen.

AP reports there will be NO charges filed. The matter is dropped:
LONDON (AP) — Batman star Christian Bale will not face charges relating to an alleged assault on his mother and sister last month, prosecutors said Thursday, suggesting their decision was based in part on the family members’ wishes.
Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service said there was insufficient evidence to afford a “realistic prospect of conviction,” and ordered police not to take any further action in the case.
The service said in a statement that while it “treats all incidents which take place in a domestic context seriously, it is important that the views of complainants are also taken into account when making decisions in such cases.”
Bale has repeatedly refused to comment on the alleged incident beyond a statement denying the allegation. His family has also declined to comment, saying the issue was a personal matter.

So, he gave them the money and they asked the prosecution to drop the charges? Eh. I still doubt much happened and that they are money grubbers.
other reports i read said that the assault was verbal which is punishable in the u.k. he verbally assaulted them after his mother ripped into his wife. big fucking whoop.
If that's true Molly, then he could have given tit for tat. That's going to be some fucked up Christmas, eh? I feel for him, I truly do.
