Kate Gosselin & Octo -Mom Agree On Something
OK, this has to stop. I know it does, but I just can't help myself. Everyday I find myself being outraged by something else Kate Gosselin has said or done and it just makes me want to write. US Weekly spoke with a former nurse who cared for the sextuplets for almost a year. She says that in the three months prior to hiring her, Kate had fired 40 different nurses and nurse-aids. You know what? I'm not going to give her a hard time about that one. This nurse who gave the interview stayed for a year, so I'm guessing Kate was just trying to find the right one.
The thing that ticked me off is that this nurse worked for Kate prior to the TLC show starting and Jon was out of work and so there was no money to pay the nurse. So, Kate did what Nadya Suleman did and looked to the government to help her out. Why? Oh, I know all of you will love this as much as me.

OK. So, because science has made it possible for you to have six kids at once, somehow it is the responsibility of the government to pay for it? Science also has promoted breast implants and fuel efficient cars, but you don't see me asking for the government to pay for them.
That is some of the most messed up logic ever. Oh, and despite having absolutely no money, Kate was still ungrateful for a very generous gift provided from the members of her father's church. Kate's dad is a pastor and his parishioners donated six cribs to Kate and Jon. Kate sent them all back. Why? They didn't match. Nice huh?
How ungrateful can one person be? If I had six kids and no money I think I would be thankful for just about everything that came my way. At this point, I'm not sure Kate even sees her kids as kids and not as money making objects to keep her wealthy. In their article, US says that Kate has been gone from home 21 of the past 30 days on paid speaking engagements. That sure is a lot of alone time for her and the bodyguard. So, was Jon watching the kids?

Living not too far from the dreaded Kate, I have had the honor of knowing way more than I'd ever care to know about this family. My local newspaper has covered them since they were born. My friends daughter is a nanny on the street where they now live. I digress. This is old, old news. She argued publically, way back when the 'tups turned 1, that she needed and deserved a nurse to help her out. It's just that now the nurse is coming forward. The rest of "you" are only finding out now what the locals have always known.

I know at least at one point, she was basically the most hated woman in the state of PA. Why? She publicly dissed the state for only giving her the round the clock nursing for the first year. You go and have all these kids, and then expect the taxpayers to cover your butt on the costs of having 6 kids at once for how long, Kate? Their entire lives? I have one kid and all her cribs were either donated by friends or bought on craigslist. We have the money to afford things baby furniture but it seems silly to buy something new when people have so much stuff they want to give away. And now that she is old enough, our kid got to pick out the big girl bed she likes the best.
As for public assistance picking up the tab, uh really? Just because I can, physically, get 6 kids in my uterus doesn't mean I should. She didn't need to use fertility drugs. She made a choice. We shouldn't have to pay for her choices. Kate should go back to earning a living as opposed to pimping her kids out.

Did anyone catch the People magazine in which she stated "I always made more than Jon”? In my opinion that personal buisness and not necessary to publicly explain.
She comes across as a very strategic, shrewd, controlling, status hungry, manhood mutilator. I would not be shocked if this entire scene was by planned and designed from the get-go. Chasing dollars at the expense of human 8 human lives is simply inexcusable, it's sad. My prediction: Give it a year, she and the kids (nannies and cameras in tow) will relocate and the new series will be re-titled "Kate and 8 in LA". I live in PA and she is not held in the highest regard in some cities/towns. I always get a negative vibe from her, sort of a Joan Crawford scary....like "too efficient".

GoddessNow-> There's no way they would move to California, there are stringent child labor laws regarding the filming of children, and said laws require trust funds to be set up with the children's money so their parents can't spend it all. There was an article that came out not too long ago blasting J and K for filming in PA because there are no laws like the CA laws for the protection of children.
Also, I highly doubt that K could maintain the fug that is her hairstyle without the children's money.

I've had friends who've chosen to go the IVF route, and they were smart about it. They didn't go the 'litter' way, and elected to have embryos removed if they had more than two. A human body wasn't made to carry a litter. My motto: Two boobs, two babies. MAX!
What gets me is that these women know, they KNOW, that a multiple pregnancy like this leaves you prone to delivering babies with special needs. There's nothing wrong with people with special needs, but if you can avoid giving someone a less than 'normal' quality of life, why risk it?
I wish I could say "Can we not talk about this bitch anymore?", but then, that would be every other post, and then Enty would have nothing to write about... :(
The phrase "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" comes to mind about all this. Also, we all know that lots of gifts come with strings attached. Perhaps the strings attached to the six free cribs were a little too binding. I've read that Kate's father is extremely religious and ran some kind of religious education camp, and her family grew up in a trailer park. When you never have enough growing up, the concept of "having enough" takes on new meaning when you grow up and get to control things. Just a thought.
I believe about 2% of what I read about this bunch but the comments about the kids being removed kill me. If any of you feel that strongly about children's welfare, please sign up to be foster homes so that children who are in physical peril on a daily basis have somewhere to go once social services gets around to taking them away. Til then, let the Gosselins sort out their own issues. I believe some of the Gosselins Without Pity bunch have found your website, Enty. They're a shrill crew.
I don't want to come off as a Kate apologist or anything. She didn't intend to have a "litter" as it was put earlier; she simply didn't have the stomach to selectively abort some of the babies she was carrying. I wouldn't either. And when the reality of having so many children came down, what else was she to do to support them, aside from asking for help from the community and/or the government? She was a nurse & her husband was an unemployed IT tech. Once the dust settled she realized there could be a way to support the family since theirs was of interest. They film like what, a few days a MONTH? So she has to go out of town quite a bit to support a book - it's a project, not an ongoing thing. None of this sounds too unreasonable to me.
Then again my name isn't Kate Gosselin and every move I make isn't micro-criticized by anyone with a keyboard.

Charlie, they film 40-50 shows per SEASON. That's ratched up this year from the 25-30 they used to do. No WAY are they only filming a few days a month, more likely they are there 3-4 days a week. Also, they new multi-million dollar house they bought off the backs of those children is setup as a soundstage, with lights BUILT INTO the home.
Paul Peterson is now actively involved in trying to get this show, and all TLC shows that are derived from filming children, off the air.
The fact is, if the Gosselin's only did the show to set their children up with college tuition (which they have claimed for years) then, well, what's the point of living in a million dollar mansion, except to further your own agenda?
And, the book deal is the latest in a looonnng line of ventures that takes Kate/Jon away from their children on numerous occasions - they have been doing church speaking engagements (cash only please) for years, never bringing the kids. Now the book tour, and all the while trying to convince the rest of us that they still clip coupons and do all the work themselves.
Please. This woman is a fraud, pure and simple.
If 40-50 episodes are shot a season, then wouldn't that mean a new episode aired nearly every week in the year? That's not what I've seen. Also, the episodes that have aired, even when marketed as "new," are not 100% previously unseen footage. They reuse footage consistently throughout the series and I'd estimate that only perhaps 60% of the content of a "new" episode is truly brand new material. And even then it doesn't all feature the children. Their new home is not "set up" as a soundstage; come on. You do realize that's an overstatement. You can complain that there are lights attached to the ceiling but I'd bet that you'd also complain if you found out that portable lights were dragged in and out of their home, as disruptive or intrusive. Another example of damned if they do, damned if they don't.
Regarding why they need a "multi-million dollar mansion,", well, I believe the selling price on that place was $1.1 mil and it's not a mansion by any stretch of the imagination. The "need" probably came in when, after a certain point, they no longer felt secure in their old home. If your kids' school bus and its school bus number were aired on TV (as Mady & Cara's was; can't believe the editors let that one slip by), and there were multiple websites out about what a rotten person you were and how your kids should be taken away - wouldn't YOU move to a more secure location? And probably get a security guy? It doesn't seem unreasonable at all to me, especially since the kids are little and they needed more space anyway. I live in Florida, and for a home of that caliber on that size lot, $1.1 sounds like a deal.
I don't see how a book tour or speaking engagements indicates neglectful parenting in and of itself. Taking the kids on trips like that could easily be criticized as disruptive to a young child's routine. And I don't see how going on a book tour or a "long line of ventures" (whatever that means, specifically) and being thrifty by cutting coupons are mutually exclusive. Isn't shopping sales and using coupons to the extent that you can just an intelligent thing to do?
I think it would be a lot more honest if some of the Gosselins' critics just owned up and said, "I hate that bitch, doesn't matter what she's doing or will do in the future - I hate her, and will loudly bitch about her until I get bored with it." Frankly, I really wonder how any of us would weather this type of scrutiny, if a national magazine and hateful websites decided to pick apart our own family's lives and seek out anonymous sources to support the premise that we were Evil Incarnate. It's a case of glass houses, you know?
Charlie, 41 episodes were aired last season, anticipation for this year is 50 or more, and that is listed on the Production entry on the Wikipedia entry, as is the information regarding the lighting being hardwired into their house, albeit for "safety" reasons. At 41 episodes, they were filming 3 times a week, so it will become more now obviously.
I did not say that the Gosselins were bad parents or the kids should be taken away, I'm stating that the comments attributed to Kate, in nearly every interview she does, is that SHE does the work, SHE doesn't have help, she still clips coupons because they "struggle". It's a blatant lie. Who are the kids with then when she's touring and doing speaking engagements and book promos???
You and I obviously differ on what a "mansion" is, because where I'm from, a gated, 3000 sq ft plus home with a few acres of land, is indeed a mansion. Only $1.1 million??? Blame it on the economy, either way, it's a million dollar "house".
They are STILL continuing the facade, now stating they will "film counselling" for their "supporters". For a woman who less than a week ago made a statement saying the "public intrusion" was "too much", this again, goes to her character by allowing the cameras to follow her around.

And above all else, I am totally, absolutely, 1000 times yes, all about the safety and security of those kids. At this point however, it is no longer about her kids, it's about Kate. Money has been made, the kids futures are secured, so really, why continue? That is truly the question I have, especially in the face of the criticism. Would YOU put up with it and continue the show?
I don't necessarily hang my hat on what I see on Wikipedia. Maybe that information you're citing is accurate but you have to acknowledge that Wikipedia is not necessarily source material.
I think the main problem here is that plenty of people truly believe they know more about the Gosselins than they actually have any right to presume, with all due respect, you included. You can't possibly know what their financial situation is, how much money they've made, how much they've managed to save, etc. You just can't. Surely you must acknowledge that that's true. On the surface they seem to be doing well, but that doesn't mean they're hanging on to a nickel of it for the future, which in my opinion is what would bring them a sense of security. If Kate grew up with very little then it's reasonable to conclude that her perception of "struggling" may be different from yours or mine.
I'm not into getting in an argument with anyone over a family that neither of us knows; that's stupid. My point in all my posts is that people should back up, use a little common sense and perhaps put this situation in its place. If Kate annoys you, if you're so offended by the "cash only please" speaking engagements, if you are so worried for their children (but aren't willing to call social services about it), here is a suggestion: Don't watch their show! Don't buy anything advertised during the show! Don't buy her books or the DVDs! Getting wound up about how awful someone who is not your relative, coworker, neighbor, acquaintance etc - she is not in any way in your life, and as such does not have the power to hurt you or help you - is a waste of time and energy. Put it in perspective.
And to answer your question, again with all due respect, if I had been in Kate's shoes with not such a go-getter of a husband and 8 children, where my training could in NO WAY support a family of ten, then yes, in that situation it's very likely that I might have entertained the offers that came flooding in, whether it was interviews or a TV special now and again. And you know what, if I truly enjoyed it and thought it was opening my family's horizons and could secure my children's future, then I may even have made it more of a regular thing - especially if it allowed me to stay home with them. However, after a few seasons, if I were Kate and could see that maybe my prickliness and my marriage's issues were becoming a bigger part of the show than I was comfortable with, then I'd have cut it off. But I'm not Kate and as such do not get to run Kate's life.
Frankly to me those children seem happier and more able to comfortably face new situations than 98% of kids their age I see, all due to their exposure to lots of people and experiences. Which would not have happened had they been stuck at daycare 16 hours a day while Jon and Kate were at work.
There are any number of reasons why Kate may have stuck with the show this long. Maybe she's contractually obligated for a certain timeframe. Isn't there the teeniest, tiniest possibility that she's not quite as stupid, greedy, hateful, and dishonest as the haters believe her to be? Can you really feel so justified in your belief of her character from what you see on TV or read on the internet?????

I'm only speaking for myself, but the reason this woman annoys me is she's the embodiment of The Mom Wars. She's the woman no one wants to become, yet at the same time, many have become.
I know people who act exactly like Kate, and they aren't getting paid mega bucks for it, either. They browbeat the husbands, complain about money (and they have more than enough), try to weasel free daycare out of the grandparents or anyone else who is willing to help out--then act ungrateful about it, and fight with each other about whose kids are the best and deserve more attention than the other kids.
Do we really need to give women like Kate validation for her lifestyle? Kate's fans must be just like her...and her life is played out in millions of American households, with countless kids being exposed to a selfish, materialistic, nasty way of life. And they wonder why the American family is in decline.
