Caroline Manzo Finds Bear In Front Yard - Should Have Called Kristy Lee Cook

This morning, Real Housewife Caroline Manzo tweeted, "There is the biggest f***ing bear in the world in my front yard. TERRIFIED." I guess seeing a black bear in the front yard of your suburban New Jersey home would do that to you. And to think Tony Soprano only ever had to worry about geese. Instead of Tweeting about it though, Caroline should have called former American Idol contestant and now star of her own reality show, Kristy Lee Cook. Apparently Kristy's reality show is something I am pretty sure no other Idol contestant has done in the past. Sure, there is the obligatory following her around while she tries to get a record deal, but the main focus of the show appears to be her hunting different animals each week. In addition, she says she just killed a black bear that was at her house.

“That bear had been causing trouble for five nights, eating grain and spooking my horses. He was making a mess of the whole barn,” Cook said. “One night I was walking in the house and I saw something standing in the door of my barn and I got him in one shot.”

Over the course of her show, Kristy will be shooting deer, pheasants and turkeys. She will also have celebrity guests but will presumably refrain from killing them.

I don't want to watch people kill animals.

Wait, wasn't Tony Soprano obsessed with ducks and not geese? I only watched a few episodes, but those ducks stick out in my mind.

former American Idol contestant and now star of her own reality show, Kristy Lee Cook SOUNDS LIKE AN ASSHOLE.

Omg, I love when people more to rural areas and then shoot the animals that live in those areas when they dare to step foot onto your land that was THEIR land before you moved your honky red neck ass in.

Ugh, this was a shitty way to start the day :/

Poor bear. :-(

I've had the pleasure of watching bear (from a safe-ish distance) in the U.P. They're some of the coolest damn animals around.

Jasmine - I totally agree! Animals are in their natural environment. If they happen on to your land, they don't know the difference!! People are so ignorant about that. I actually have a skunk living by my house right now, that I have ran into twice this summer (thankfully I haven't been sprayed) but my husband wanted to "take care of it" And I told him no! The skunk is in his natural habitat, we aren't God and get to choose who lives and dies just because we are bigger than they are.

She sounds like a real douchebaguette. *shakes head* "Well, there's not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol is sure doing its job."

Big deal. They reintroduced bear to NJ and they are doing very well. I have bear in the front and back yard. Almost hit one with the car about a week ago.

Holy crap. Sounds like you could've solved the problem by PUTTING DOORS ON YOUR BARN.

I live in the mountains, but in a fairly well populated area. My neighborhood is hardly out in the boonies & there have been regular bear sightings as a result of the continued development which move the bears out of their natural environment. My husband once saw a bear walk down our street & up our driveway only to be feet away from him. Luckily he left to presumably look for more food. Usually animal control can capture them & release them back without harming them.

I am a huge animal lover/defender, so I don't think I'll be watching that show either BUT if it came to the bear harming my own animals or a child, I would have no quams about shooting the animal. What the hell else is the alternative?

I was on a bus just outside Lake Louise, AB, a few weeks back. We're driving along and all of a sudden a passenger yells out "A BEAR!!!".

because we are in Canada, this happened: The bus driver stopped (on the highway, there were no vehicles behind us), then backed the bus up so everyone could see the bear and take pictures (from inside). I didn't get my camera out in time but I did see the bear and it was HUGE. Grizzly, I was told.

The only bear I ever wanna be around is the leather wearing gay kind.

I'm with you Jasmine - but then again I think you and I usually agree on matters related to animals. Killing that bear was entirely unnecessary, there are groups who will tranquilize such animals and relocate them. People who do this do it because they ENJOY it, and they can all go to hell.

Go Kristy! If bears and humans were in different positions, they'd simply shoot us and eat us too. It's the way of the animal kingdom. And we are animals.

But seriously, while I'm no fan of Kristy's particular brand of hunting (apparently for sport and annoyances), I'm also not against hunting. For those who actually live off the land (Ted Nugent, for example), hunting is how people survive and feed themselves. More importantly, we should all at least see for once how food is actually produced. We forget that the steaks on our plates and the chickens in our buckets are animals, and it took some effort to domesticate and kill those animals. We'd be more appreciative of our food -- and how others in countries without conveniences -- actually have to live on a daily basis.

I also apply this to farming. As a kid, I spent summers on my grandmother's farm in North Carolina, where we hunted game and grew corn and vegetables. It's not easy; it's not for the faint of heart; but those times remind me quite clearly that living isn't easy.

Agree that Cook sounds like a douche. And if she's going to kill something she better well fucking eat it.

Is she eating the animals she kills "living off the land"??

Madeline said...

Yeah, that's a show I'll definitely be marking my calendar to remind myself NOT to watch.

Also agree with Mack. Use, not abuse. All animals deserve to have a good life. Their lives should not be wasted. Having just watched Fast Food Nation I'm now a vegan. OK, not actually but close. Really close. Maybe I can still eat bacon.

My son goes to William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ (I drive past The Brownstone every time I go up there..), which is in the same area. WPU is on a mountain, and my son says there are bear sightings all the time. Which I LOVE to hear. Especially when he says everyone, including HIM, runs to go check it out. Oy.

I'm surprised Caroline didn't go outside and puff out her chest. That would have scared him off but good. Actually, if Teresa was over she's fugly enough to scare any bear.
