Star Magazine Has No Respect For Minka Kelly
Yesterday Minka Kelly was pretty much everywhere because of her being named Esquire's Sexiest Woman Alive. While I was reading through the coverage I came across this headline from Star.
Minka Kelly: From Stripper's Daughter to Jeter's Girlfriend
So, basically Minka Kelly has nothing to be proud of in this world except for the fact that she managed to raise herself up from being the daughter of a stripper to the girlfriend of a baseball player. What is this saying to women? Hey, guess what, you have the chance to become a WAG. They make it seem like this should be the ultimate goal for a woman. WTF kind of headline is this?
Remember this is a story that should be highlighting the Esquire award and her acting, but instead the first paragraph says, "Minka Kelly's boyfriend is one of the highest paid major league baseball stars — and her various TV roles have pulled in a pretty penny — but growing up the only child of a stripper mom, money was often tight." So, the first thing they mention is Derek Jeter and how rich he is. Yes, they acknowledge her acting roles kind of, but they reinforce Derek in the next paragraph. "My mom lived a fast life," Derek Jeter’s brown-eyed gal pal tells Esquire."
We got it. She is Derek Jeter's girlfriend and she should feel lucky. Who wrote this? Even the picture they use (above) has Derek Jeter. Does Minka not have her own identity? Am I seeing things wrong?

That she is dating Derek Jeter is the only interesting thing about her.
She is attractive, but not exceptionally so. She is a mediocre actress and a bit of a snot. So ... but for a lucky audition, she should be behind the counter of a Dairy Queen.
Sorry, but I still don't have a clue who she is and what she does.
Is the term "WAG" usual in the US? First the Arsenal FC boys, now WAG mentioned in an entry.

She was on Friday Night Lights for pete's sake! She should be eternally known for being on one of the best shows EVER! :)

she's hot but (ihmo) she's not THAT hot. I hate the way they printed the story, or maybe I'm putting to much into it.
sorry enty but the ONLY reason i know who she is, is because she is dating Derek Jeter. and i know she was on friday night lights but i don't watch that show either. i wonder how she got the title. cause she is NOT well known.
It's Star magazine. I hardly think (at least I hope!) that women get tips of self esteem from this rag.
Honestly, I just hope that most kids have good parents and role models because the trashy shit that passes for 'inspiration' these days is scary.
I like Minka. She does a lot of work for charity, so that makes her aces in my books.
She is generic looking, I don't get it. Her boobs look real though, I will give her that.

To be honest, I always confuse her with that Kelly Brook pin-up model. Isn't Minka also one of those women always showing up in miscellaneous lad mags showing what should only be seen by her boyfriend/husband?
I don't think you're seeing things wrong at all. What an incredibly rude headline and characterization of her. In general, I don't care for the family lives of people to be held against them - Minda's in the public eye, sure, but leave her mother out of it. Slow news day for Star.
I think she's a pretty bad actress. I've seen her in three things, and she was IDENTICAL in each part and with minimal charisma. FNL will be the best thing she ever gets.
She gave a comment talking about how great her stripper mom is. How is that then misleading?
As for people asking why the article doesn't talk about her acting, she's a GUEST STAR on PARENTHOOD. She's not up for Academy Awards, folks. She's a guest star on a TV show.

she grew up poor, is that true or just a story? I thought her dad was in Aerosmith and her grandfather was a successful actor back in the day.

2. WTF does her mom being a stripper have to do with anything. So if your parents are eff ups you are destined to be the same? I disagree.

she was awful on FNL. AND she got to kiss tim riggins, so i will never be able to like her.
