Steven Tyler And The National Anthem
It is really in the last minute or so of the two minutes that you begin to feel sorry for small children, cats and contestants on American Idol who are judged on their performance by Steven Tyler.

i don't think it was horrible, that is his singing style. It is just usually drowned out be 2 guitars, keyboards and drums.
It wasn't that bad. That's how I'd expect him to sing it. It's a hard song, and he's a screecher anyway. I don't think he meant to be disrespectful.
No one means for the national anthem to be disrespectful. It's a song that needs real singing skill, and some people simply can't sing. Including many, many pop/rock stars who make their living at it.
What the hell did they expect? A lilting and operatic performance? It's STEVEN frickin' TYLER.
I'd LOVE to see MV, er...I mean, J-Lo tackle The National Anthem, BTW.
Meh, I've heard a lot worse.
David Lee Roth woulda killed it.
I just think he sounds like Steven Tyler.
And no, the national anthem was not just meant to be sung by people with melodic voices. The national anthem was meant to be sung by every man, woman, and child in this country, regardless of musical ability.
@Grace -- Yeah, but there's a biiiiiiig difference between Whitney Houston's flawless rendition and Roseanne Barr's infamous performance. Everyone *can* sing it, sure -- but it's an extremely difficult song, and only the best singers can really pull it off.
One more thing: I find it really interesting how thousands of people will boo a person for flubbing a song, but aren't as likely to express mass disapproval for the players who rape women, torture dogs, etc. Interesting display of moral priorities.
@Ida - LOL! Was just thinking about MV (Enty's twitter reminded me).
I thought he did fine for the singer he is, was expecting much worse based on all the hubbub. Same thing happened that always happens when I hear the national anthem sung - I get goosebumps. EVERY TIME.
He sang it exactly as I expected. It really wasn't horrible.
Kristen C - at the Giants/49ers game - did sing it perfectly, but that's what I expected from her.
That wasn't bad at all! He sounded a little bit drunk at times but he hit every high note bang on. He's just being Steven, y'all!
As I understand it (it's not my anthem), he got all the words right, correct?
I was all set to be amused when I hit play but it sounded like I figured it would.
I loved it. Yes, Anita he did get the words right.
We certainly couldn't accuse him of lip synching
It was fine. Just like you would expect to hear it from him.
Haters just gotta hate...
Kristen C did do a beautiful job.
Steven sang it like Steven. Clearly not disrespectful.
Kristin Chenoweth sang at the Niners/Giants game. She sounded like a broadway singer (which she is) and Steven Tyler sounded like an (aging) rock star (which he is).
Whitney sang it best.
I mean, it's not like he's known to sing like Pavorotti (sp.?)...what did people expect him to sound like?
Bryan Batt sang it at the Saints home playoff game. He was WONDERFUL. I didn't know he could sing. Please bring him back, Mad Men!
Wasn't that bad at all, he sounded like himself...
He sang it just like Little Stevie Tyler.
Seriously? What else did they expect. I thought it was fine.
I love Steven T. Dude loves living in his skin. It sounded just like what you would expect from him. Not great but what I expected. And such a lovely outfit!
He did flub the words but nearly as badly as Xtina.
Be honest, it was not good and it should have been and was expected to be great. I found myself like who is that? My bf said he ain't sound that bad but I disagree. It was bad
If that wasn't the performance they wanted, they shouldn't have freaking asked Steven Tyler. What else could anyone expect?
I didn't think Steven Tyler sounded THAT bad. I don't understand what people expected? He hit all the notes, just in his Steven Tyler/Aerosmith way, but isn't that why we love him??
I was amazed by Kristin Chenoweth. That was a beautiful rendition.
The National Anthem is SUPER difficult to sing well.
One more thing: I find it really interesting how thousands of people will boo a person for flubbing a song, but aren't as likely to express mass disapproval for the players who rape women, torture dogs, etc. Interesting display of moral priorities.

Thank you Ida!!!~
I thought he sounded fine - he was definitely hitting those high notes, which I expected, and sounded a bit drunk/on some pills, which I didn't even think of, but should have expected.
He did a much better job than I would have. I couldn't sing my way out of a paper bag.
I am a bit biased, BUT considering the life he's lead....I thought he sounded pretty good. And he was heartfelt.
And he's wearing a glittery Patriots shirt. Bless him.
