Jeremy Britt Lost Half His Body Weight

I think Jeremy Britt has got to be one of my favorite contestants on Biggest Loser. To lose more than half your body weight in the show is absolutely mind blowing. He started off the show at 389 pounds and ended up losing 199 pounds. I was hoping he would hit that 200 pound loss mark, but he did end up weighing in at 190 pounds. To do all of this through diet and hard work shows you don't always need to have surgery to achieve results. Plus, when you work this hard and change your life like most of these long term contestants on the show, you are so loathe to gain any of it back because you know how hard it is to take it off in the first place.

Enty, no comment about your diet? Did you give up?

JB is half of his former self, that must feel incredible.

A friend of mine did this with Weight Watchers. She lost 317 lbs. over 3 1/2 years on the program. She worked HARD for that loss. It's amazing (and makes my 40 lb. WW loss look like nothing. lol)

congrats Mary!

However, it will be difficult for him to maintain that loss just because he'll be back in the real world and not working out 24/7. However, that's just awesome news!

If he wants to keep it off, he'll have to leave the country. America is no place for healthy eating.

I'm happy for him.

Could they have found him a jacket that fit properly? The guy deserves a good fit!

Wow, that's pretty remarkable. Good for him!

I keep thinking the word remarkable now and it keeps seeming more and more like a fake word.

Kim should've won. He did lose a tremendous amount of weight, but when he weighed in in his gym clothes, he still has a lot of fat around the middle. I predict both he and his sister gain a good deal of it back.

I was rooting for Kim too. No one worked harder and damn, she looked hot last night.

Jeremy's suit was a bad fit, I wasn't thinking so much the jacket as he looked umcomfortable in the crotch area.

Conda had a crappy attitude and I'm afraid out of the three, she'll be the one to gain it back.

How wonderful for those people. What a great opportunity to get the motivation and educational information they needed to get going.

I always wonder when they lose it this fast, doesn't it create huge amounts of excess saggy skin? Maybe his suit doesn't fit properly because of this?

wow! good for him! i've never seen this show, but that's got to be incredibly inspiring for the other contestants.

the one thing that makes me sad is how obesity seems to affect the psyche...he still stands in 'fat' mode...it looks like a defeated 'let my body fall where it will' sort of pose. (no idea if i'm explaining myself well here, and certainly don't mean to offend). ill-fitting suit aside (and i agree w/ mikey & califblondy he deserves cool new duds), he stands as if he were still fat, as if no awareness of this incredible new body or how to carry a confident stance. i do hope he's able to keep the weight off tho...he does look fantastic.

Bleu said...

@Princess -- I think it depends on how fast a person loses the weight, and whether it's entirely by not eating or whether exercising is part of how the person lost the weight.

good for him. i hope he is able to get used to his skinny self. when youre large, you tend to think of yourself as always large and it takes awhile for your brain to catch up. plus the reason for overeating needs to be addressed or he'll fall back into the same habits.

still, i wish him success, and he looks great.

I watched this season and was surprised by how big everyone seemed at the end (except Kim of course). Those people Conda kicked off did a lot better at home than she did at the ranch (Mike and Cassandra).

I was really routing for Kim. She looked spectacular and changed so dramatically! I suspect that Jeremy has a lot of excess skin and that's part of the reason he looks so uncomfortable. I think that he and Conda will gain it back.

FYI - producers listen up. This was the whiniest bunch of whiners ever on the show and Conda was the worst! I can't believe I made it to the end with this unmotivated barely tolerable crew. Please pick better :)

Good for this guy (and anybody who manages to change their life for the better).

Enty is wrong on this though:

"Plus, when you work this hard and change your life like most of these long term contestants on the show, you are so loathe to gain any of it back because you know how hard it is to take it off in the first place."

NYT did a story about "TBL" and their success rate a couple of years ago (including some of the dirty secrets from the show...they encourage people to do unhealthy things for the stunning scale numbers). Many "TBL" contestants put a significant amount of weight back on when they leave. A) When you're back in the real world, you're not going to be able to focus 100% of your time/energy on being as thin as possible. B) Again, they don't lose all the weight in a sane, healthy way (read the article). So when you step foot off the ranch, you put on weight immediately.

Just be careful when you assume that all these people actually learn (healthy) skills for coping with fighting obesity. They don't all change 100% for the better. They don't show you all the crap they encourage people to do to lose the weight (think: college wrestlers making weight).

The chances of keeping weight off with theses kinds of shows is really low. Something like ten percent actually don't regain.

My sister didn't go on the biggest loser but she lost 150#. She works very hard to maintain her weight loss and she's incredibly diligent in her diet and exercise. Also when one loses this much weight there is skin hanging so what you see on him may just be that. She had to have surgery to get rid of the "extra person" she called it. I wish anyone well who goes through this. I could stand to lose 20-30 lbs (although being tall you can't see it) and I would be the biggest complainer there was! Oy vey.

I haven't watched this show in a long time, but I'm really happy for this guy. I wish him the best and I really hope he sticks with it.

This has been all over the local news because he is from Michigan. It's nice to see some positive news coming from here.

If you lose it slow and steady you run a much lesser risk of having saggy skin. Too much weigh loss in too short a period of time almost always results in super saggy skin and the surgery to remove it (well the recovery) is super painful.

I watch is every season but have this finale on my dvr as I had to watch Glee and New Girl with my daughter (she was sick, had to humour her).
I agree they were they whiniest whiners ever, dia papaya! 100%

As for the extra skin. There are a lot of factors that contribute and it has nothing to do with losing the weight fast or slow, or by doing exercises. It all has to do with how long you were heavy, your age, genetics, and luck. I had WLS 2 1/2 years ago (and let me say that it is not an easy way out at all) and I went from 300 lbs. down to an average of 125 lbs. (I fluctuate a few lbs. up and down). I have some loose skin which bothers me but from what everyone who has seen me says I don't have all that much extra skin.

Conda was such a vile person if she gained all her weight back that wouldn't make me unhappy.

TaterOnTheCouch said...

Did you watch the same show I did, Enty? Jeremy Britt was whiny, entitled, hypocritical, and obnoxious. Yeah he lost a lot of weight but he's one of the biggest winners this show has seen. There are many other former contestants that I would classify as a "favorite" over this douchebag.

Krissie said...

One of the past winners of this show said (after it was over) that he was so desperate to win that he stopped eating, exercised pretty much the entire day, and was peeing blood by the finale. I don't remember his name since I don't watch this show, but now whenever I see a TBL winner I wonder what they had to resort to to win.

I doubt many of these people will keep all this weight off. In the real world you can't focus on nothing but eating veggies and running on a treadmill. You have to go to work, take care of your kids, etc. It's very easy to slide back into old habits.
I lost 60 lbs last year, and believe me, the ONLY reason I haven't gained any of it back is because I was a pre-diabetic (I'm not now) and I'm scared of becoming one again. If I didn't have that motivation, I'm sure I'd have re-gained some of it by now. It is really tempting to completely fall off the wagon once you have finished dieting and achieved your goal weight. I'm not saying I'd have re-gained all 60 lbs but I probably would have re-gained 15 or 20. Old habits die hard.

Ditto to the comments above, a lot of the people who appeared on TBL have gained the weight back. Many of them are doomed because the intense workouts on 'the ranch' change their metabolism in a way that they cannot maintain in the real world. I think it was Ali Vincent who said once she got off the ranch she had to take a leave from her job so that she could stay at home and work out all day to keep up her weight loss. She's gained weight, but she still looks good and healthy now.

I can't watch this show or Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss anymore once I read the articles about the shady stuff that goes on when the cameras are not rolling.

Congrats to all of you that are losing weight. I'm still failing at it, but I'm still looking for something that will work for me.

Too bad this kid couldn't have lost his shitty personality in addition to the 200 lbs. His sister too. Worst winner ever. Horrible cast this year.
