Joel Madden Kicked Out Of His Hotel For Pot

Apparently in Australia, hotels would like you to keep your drug use away from their facilities. After a small amount of pot was found in Joel Madden's hotel, he was kicked out of the hotel. Police actually got a search warrant and raided Madden's hotel room. I wonder if they were expecting to find something else. Probably a maid saw some while cleaning or a guest smelled it and reported it. Either way, Joel got kicked out of the hotel, but does not appear to have been arrested. I wonder if Nicole Richie also does pot with Joel. Probably not because it would give her the munchies which would cause her to eat which would be the worst thing she has ever experienced. I know, I say that knowing full well she has driven down the wrong sides of freeways and shared a bed with Paris Hilton.

I also leave a $20 tip for the cleaning woman when I leave and keep my drugs hidden when I'm out of my room. Not that Im worried about a cleaning woman turning me in. Unknown said...: My "baby-daddy" is an Aussie and there's nothing more going on with this story. Australia DOES have zero tolerance on weed. They are fairly easy on tourists and you can find it, of course, but if you do something stupid like leave it out for housekeeping to see in a high-profile hotel, or people smell it, you WILL get a slap on the wrist. I think they were being nice by not arresting him.; 10:36 AM

I mean, in Spain for instance, you can walk around in the street smoking a joint (unless you have as much quantity that you can sell, cops can't do you anything), but if you smoke INSIDE a public room (restaurant, hotel... even if you have paid for it and is temporarily yours), the owner can be inmediately fined (and you) and the business closed, if reincident according to the law.; 12:13 PM

Whether you agree or not, or your personal views on marijuana, if the hotel prohibits it then kicking him out for having it is just their promised reaction. No 'over'. Personally, I'm tired of the marijuana witch hunts and forces going after users instead of focusing on actual problems, but that wasn't what happened here. When I'm staying at hotels I just go outside for a walk. Sometimes I get really lucky and we stay with a place that has a balcony, or at least a window that opens. Since I'm Canadian, I have to go without when we go to the US because I will NOT carry any on me and I have no connections. Except in Vegas. The Mexicans lining the strip can do a lot for you in Vegas. *G*; 6:26 PM

Back when I worked in a hotel which was 100% non-smoking (company policy, later state law), I was astounded by the number of people who thought that prohibition referred to cigarettes only. Non smoking means no smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipes, bongs, joints, OR ANYTHING lit and inhaled. Towel-blocking the door does not stop the smell and opening a window more often than not blows it into the room and therefore hotel hallways even more. No smoking means no smoking of ANYTHING. For those who think they get away with it/no one notices: Most people get "no complaints" because we are the desk hated getting chewed out by someone clearly breaking the rules and then lying about it and yelling at us like we targeted them for unknown reasons. Most of us would just go up and down the hall with air freshener to avoid the drama. In theory, it was always possible to call the police, but one drug arrest in the newspaper would make US look bad, like a druggie hotel, not like a proactive hotel simply enforcing its rules.
As you can tell, this irritated me. People initialed that they'd not smoke or be fined $150, but they'd always get indignant if they were caught breaking the rule. I'd hate it when the old ladies would come in, "I thought this was a NON-Smoking hotel," and it IS, but, there's that smell, everywhere. What makes people just decide that they are more important than 80 others and they can go ahead and rudely stink up the place?

He had under a certain amount which means he got a "caution" - not arrested, not charged, not found guilty. Cops don't CARE about weed here unless it's of a trafficking amount and they have to. And because this was reported to the media at the same time it was reported to the cops, they did what they had to do.

And they didn't just ask him to leave, they put out a press release touting this zero tolerance policy that was never enforced before they investigated.; 5:25 AM

In almost every state you're allowed possession of a certain amount - even one or two small plants as long as it's private use and you're not supplying or selling it. The hotel might have had a zero tolerance policy, but that's different.

Pot should just be legalised. I despise the smell - it gives me wicked headaches - and I hate it when my neighbours' son smokes it right outside my door (the smoke gets into the room where I keep my birds), but there's no reason for taxpayer money to be wasted on something like this.; 12:57 AM
