Hey! Maybe IF Anne makes him a baby, he will suddenly realize he needs to work to support his child and they will stop fighting. NOT likely to happen since she had more money than he ever could earn in one life time.

The line is named after Shulman's grand-father. "He wasn't actually a jeweler, but he would design pieces for my grandmother. We both thought that was romantic," he says. "Our goal is to create something with a lot of history and intimacy." The two specialize in pieces with an heirloomlike air of permanence. One favored motif is the butterfly: The impetus came from iPhone snapshots of different butterfly species that Nahser Fink took at the San Francisco Zoo. "I have never seen jewelry that actually looks like what a butterfly looks like," Shulman says. "They're always a very generic silhouette." In contrast, each James Banks design is based on a different species and labeledwiththeinsect's Latin name—a lepidopterist's dream.

Impressively for a two-person operation, James Banks has quickly established a solid retail beachhead: The line is sold at Hirshleifers in Manhasset, New York; Mitchells and Richards in Westport and Greenwich, Connecticut; and The Villa in Shanghai. (Prices range from $300 to $5,000 for the butterfly charms, and $1,100 to $6,000 for the Lightkeeper necklace, initially created as a custom piece for Hathaway.) Shulman and Nahser Fink continue to design custom pieces by request. In fact, the voluble Shulman is mute about only one of his creations: the engagement ring he designed for Hathaway with Kwiat. "I'd rather not talk about that, if that's okay," he says when asked about the piece. "That was just something very personal."
