This A-/B+ list mostly television actor is a celebrity offspring of a former A lister. Anyway, our actor, avoids going home for the holidays because he has to find some woman to be his girlfriend. His family would not be supportive of our actor being out. So, he stays in the closet to them and the public.

I had no idea. Googled it and you're right. Long term partner relationship, had a daughter 2 years ago, last photographed together in June of this year, no report of their demise.
So, who could it be? I would have sworn this was Scott Caan too.

I like the Jason Ritter guess, although he has a long acting resume for both film and TV so it's hard for me at least to categorize him as 'mostly TV'. Seems more split down the middle between the two.
