Blind Items Revealed #1

May 8, 2018

Met Gala

A war of words last night between this A list singer and a former featured act on one of her songs. Their feud has been going on quietly behind the scenes, but last night was one of the first times they had been in the same place in a long time. A couple instances of some yelling directed at the A lister.

Katy Perry/Migos

Who the f*ck are Migos?

Brayson87 said...

Oh I see, "Migos is an American hip hop trio from Lawrenceville, Georgia, formed in 2009.[1] The trio is composed of three rappers, known by their stage names Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff."

I was thinking this: "Mi-Go are a fictional race of extraterrestrials created by H. P. Lovecraft and used by others in the Cthulhu Mythos setting."

@Betty Boop, Today's hip hop is influential? More like a circus full of clowns. Just because the children are laughing and clapping it doesn't mean they're important, just another part of the show.

tetsujin said...

It's not just "today's" hip hop. It's cumulative. It's more popular and influential than any other form of music including pop. All the pop stars are trying to get reality show gigs. Why? Their music isn't selling the way it did in the past. Hip hop is built for the current model, which is streaming. For decades now rap fans have been enduring the childish taunts of those who don't like it, claiming it's not music or a fad or whatever. No one cares about the music those who attacked rap claimed to prefer, rock, metal and now studio-crafted pop.

Your opinion, it's cute. Rock isn't going anywhere.

schweetyfleety said...

Exactly. As Neil Young so eloquently put it, “Rock and Roll can never die.” I would rather listen to polka than rap.

tetsujin said...

Who said rock is going somewhere? People still make polka, just that only a few blue hairs even listen. Your assertion that hip hop isn't influential is betrayed by the numbers. At least that's a fact. I'm old enough to recall when there was no such thing as hip hop. I've listened to all kinds of music (part of my job at one time), some of which I don't like, but I wouldn't use my distaste for a certain kind of music to make up some nonsense about it.

Nigga please, hip-hop is a played out joke.

@Brayson

They rap & sing.

Do you know the Versace song & the Hanna Montana song? No? Head over to YouTube for a quick laugh.

Rap is the music, hip hop encompasses the entire culture of urban (traditionally black) fashion, art, music, etc. It has been massively influential. Empirically so, whether you feel like it is or not. White kids wearing backwards baseball caps and jeans hanging around their asses, that's influence. Martha Stewart co-hosting a cooking show with Snoop Dogg, that's influence. Beats by Dre. Ciroc vodka. Regardless if you find it distasteful, or you hate rap music, the
hip hop culture has been far more influential than many like to admit for some reason. Somewhere, some of your kids or grandkids are preordering some hideous $500 sneakers because Kanye West designed them. That's influence.
