Suzan Tamim Killers Get A Retrial

Back in 2008, I wrote a post about the Lebanese pop singer Suzan Tamim who had run away to Dubai to escape from her boyfriend. She had ended their relationship and was afraid of him so she ran. Well he found her and then hired an Egyptian policeman to kill the singer at her new home. Well, last year the pair were convicted of the crime and sentenced to death. Now though an Egyptian appeals court has decided there was something wrong with the conviction. They didn't say what was wrong with the conviction or why it affected both men but they have ordered a retrial of the pair. The good news is the pair will have to wait in jail until the new trial begins.

I don't pretend to know anything about Egyptian law but the case seemed pretty open and shut when they were on trial. There were records and testimony and lots of physical evidence. I am wondering if the fact that Tamim's accused killers are a former policeman and a big time politician have anything to do with the overturning of the conviction, especially since the court wouldn't give any reasons for their ruling.

Follow Up To Some Crime Stories

It seemed like a few months ago there were all these crazy crimes that were happening all over the world, and in the past few weeks there has been some resolution to at least two if them.

Do you remember the Lebanese singer Suzanne Tamim who was killed in her apartment in Dubai because she was leaving her lover? Well, an Egyptian court sentenced her former boyfriend, Hisham Talaat Moustafa and retired police officer Mohsen al-Sukkari to death by hanging. Her boyfriend ordered the killing while the police officer is the one who actually carried it out.

Her family said, "We have full faith in the Egyptian judicial system and we are awaiting the final ruling. The family is all gathered and we are following this closely."

The final ruling to which the family refers is the fact that the sentence must be approved by the mufti, which is an interpreter of Islamic law. This was such a tragedy.

The other case which has some resolution involves the 17 year old girl who ran away to Brazil to be with her boyfriend and then he killed her, cut her up, and put her in a suitcase. He did this because she was going to tell his parents about his drug use. For his part, he revealed that he only wanted to be with Cara Maria Burke so he could get permission to live in the UK. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison for her death. After killing her while high on crack, he sent a text message to a friend saying, 'the b**** is in the bag', accompanied by a smiley face.

An Arrest

Back at the end of July I posted an item about a very popular singer from Lebanon named Suzanne Tamim who had been brutally murdered in her Dubai apartment. Well in the past few days the case has finally started to come together, and it is incredibly shocking.

One of the world's richest men has been arrested and charged with paying a hit man $2M to follow Tamim and then kill her. The man who was arrested for hiring the hit man is the equivalent of say, a US Senator here in America and was considered for a cabinet post in Egypt. Allegedly the man hired a policeman to be his hit man, and the police man followed Tamim from London to Dubai, bought a knife in Dubai and then stabbed her, and decapitated her in her apartment.

The policeman who allegedly served as a hit man was actually arrested about two days after the killing, but the information he provided was so spectacular that it took this long to check out everything he said.

I suppose when you are a billionaire many times over, $2M is nothing to pay for a hit, but maybe the married father of three should have been more concerned with his family and taking care of them, and not getting revenge on some poor woman who didn't want to have an affair with him anymore.

Lebanese Singer Mutilated And Murdered

Late Monday night, police in Dubai discovered the body of Suzan Tamim who was a hugely popular singer in Lebanon and throughout the Middle East. She was 31 and definitely had a very interesting life. She won a television talent show similar to Idol back in 1996 and became a household name in Lebanon. Over the past twelve years she had done a couple of albums and was really popular in the rest of the Middle East.

What really makes her interesting though is she was about to get divorced for the second time. The first one was fine, but this second one has been a little crazy. Her second husband, who is also a music producer actually tried to get a court order to keep her in Lebanon. Although that effort failed, he was definitely still in the picture and not happy about her leaving him, especially to go to Dubai.

Now, when the police found her she had died from multiple stab wounds to the face and had been badly mutilated all over the rest of her body as well.
